GM's thread about nothing (59 Viewers)

It's hard to imagine any facts that save face for Teo here.
All outcomes are pretty big hits for his public image. The leading theories so far:1. He perpetrated a hoax to 'raise his Heisman profile'

2. He perpetrated a hoax to cover up his homosexuality

3. A hoax was perpetrated upon him by someone with wanted to embarass him.

I think the motivation behind #2 & #3 make more sense (he wasn't a Heisman candidate in September and there was no indication he would be), while the facts (so far) slightly favor #1 or #2 (seemingly contradictory statements. Did he meet her in person, did he not?). I don't have access to the information, so I'm going to wait it out.

Many of the tweets are funny and I can appreciate them, but as for which of the three is the truth, I'm going to wait to find out if Te'o is being Catfished, Te'o is Birdcaging or Te'o is Jonny Fairplaying this.

I don't think that's an outrageous position.
The only reference I get here is the Jonny Fairplay one, which is a sad commentary on my life in that I don't get the others but do get this one. Little help here?I know some of the Tuiassasopa (yeah, no way I know how to spell that) clan. The ones I know are very good and decent people. And while this family is the South Pacific version of Kennedys (there's dozens of them and they are all well revered) it is hard to imagine of them concocting and perpetuating this hoax. I mean, this is character assassination. So bizarre.
Jonny Fairplay faked the death of his Grandmother on Survivor to gain sympathy within the game.
Yeah, that was the ONLY one I got. No idea what Catfish or Birdcaging means.

I've never even heard of this Catfish movie. Is it any good/worth seeing?
oh christ, I DID see that! I had no idea that's what it was called, but it was a painful watch. Some woman in some podunk town made up a little girl who had an online relationship with a grown man in New York. It was creepy and yucky and just awful. Not sure why I watched as much as I did, but I would never recommend this to anybody. Just weird.

well, apparently MTV liked it enough to turn it into some type of tv show that just debuted back in November.I'm always surprised when anyone older than 20 or so actually watches MTV these days.

"From the network that brought you Jersey Shore, A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila & the Jenny McCarthy Show...."I'm probably being too unkind to Catfish, but it just wasn't for me. It was too uncomfortable for me.

I tried to read through the Te'O thread a bit...if you fell asleep 10 years ago and just woke up today, I don't think you'd recognize what Twitter and social media has done to our language. What happened to the narrative? Where's Guster when you need him? That said, some of the Twitter jokes have been gold. Sports Pickle has been killing it today.

Dating a fake girlfriend doesn't say much for the looks of Notre Dame co-eds.
:lmao:

My mom passed about an hour ago. She doesn't hurt anymore. She is not tired anymore. She is at peace. Thanks to everyone here for their good thoughts, wishes, prayers. And thanks even more for the constant day to day nothingness that makes me think, laugh, cry and question. Bunch of good people in here.

Sad news good buddy. I know this is a very hard time for you, but take solace in knowing her suffering is over and you did all you could to comfort and support her. I know you were kind of upset that she was moved to hospice the other day, but I believe that had to be a more peaceful final days for her than a cold hospital. You are a good man and were a terrific son. Stay strong and know you did the best you could for her.

Hospice really was a blessing. I hated making a move this close to the end, but it was worth it.

Bogart, you have my sincere condolences. I don't believe I am speaking out of turn here when I tell you that we all grieve with you. May your memories of better times be of some small consolation in this difficult time for you and the rest of the Bogart clan. Stay strong GB.

:goodposting: Sorry for your loss, Bogie. :( My mom drives me freaking nuts at times, but I can't imagine my life without her.

Yeah I've been tempted to go to a hospice for a while. Everyone is nice to you and they give you all the narcotics you want. Unfortunately being old, cranky, overly sensitive, and condescending is not enough to be accepted.

Sorry for your loss, Bogart. At least she isn't in any more pain and she can rest. Will be thinking about you.

Last week I was contacted by an old client to come on as counsel on the eve of trial. It finished up today. Quite the ride to come into a case with four or five days to go before a 2-day trial, get up to speed on a three-foot high stack of docs, interview witnesses, and then try the dang thing. I think I may have a drink now. :banned:
Did you win?
WTF cares? Did you get paid?
You better have gotten paid a significant premium to jump into a case like that.
I got a very full retainer before entering an appearance.I got the other parties to agree that we could do memos rather than closing arguments bc of my late entry. As a result we wont get a decision for a few weeks. There are two claims against my client. Expect to successfully defend one, think on the other we are like 65/45 to win.
Not sure anyone cares, but judgment came down today in my favor on all counts. Even the 65/45 one. :pickle: [/QUOTE]Congrats GB!

The show is pretty hilarious. People are delusional.

Hang in there, Bogart.I guess it isn't a good day for GMTAN folks and our folk...My dad passed early this morning. We knew a day or so ago that it was only a matter of days. He went peacefully after his overall health declined due to Alzheimer's (which can go #### itself BTW). I guess this is one of those passings that almost seems as a blessing. Most of the time I feel like I really lost my dad about 3 or 4 years ago when this disease robbed him (and us) of who he really was.Rest easy, dad. :banned: (pretend that's a vodka and tonic)

Alzheimer's is truly a demonic horrible disease. So sorry about this. No one should have to go through something that awful. My condolences.
