GM's thread about nothing (67 Viewers)

Don't read anything into the fact she got a 3XL shirt.
At some point someone (cos?) handed me a stoner poodle shirt, and since I was still feeling a bit uncomfortable I thought it was a sweet way to include me, until I looked at it and saw it was a Large. Later I gave it back and explained I wasn't that huge yet.Speaking of fat, Homer did not hesitate to throw a fat joke at me all day, which I somehow managed to find endearing.

How did HJS end up with this pants down? Did he lose win a bet?
He also voluntarily dropped them when he came home Sunday night. It wasn't really that much different than seeing him during the day, since his sitting at the poker table always resulted in our being able to see not only his boxers but a fair amount of his disturbingly wide butt-crack. YSR and I debated dropping something in it, like a Space Shuttle, but I'm not sure anyone ever did.

Here are a couple of videos I shot at Salt Lick. The first is the GM eating BBQ video that's been referenced here a couple of times. The trip out there was a riot. First of all, GM really, really wanted to drive to the Salt Lick. He asked everyone, repeatedly, if he could drive their car. I think Romo ultimately got him in the car with the promise that he could drive at some point, but I can't say for sure. And as has been documented already, the ride over went something like this: "Uni, don't ever get married... I mean, I know you're going to get married at some point, so here's what you do... save all your money... buy property... ISN'T THAT RIGHT, ROMO? YOU GUYS OWN LOTS OF PROPERTY... but the property has to have cash flow... otherwise, you sell it... and then... you put the money into a portfolio and you let it sweat... yep, let that portfolio sweat for you... where are we going?.. how far away is this place?... this is bull####... if we were in Portland, we'd be at the coast by now [repeat x32]... Jesus Christ, where the hell is this place?... if you guys came to see me in Portland, we would just go to a restaurant across the street... so if the Ravens win, I've got a $1300 ticket... yeah, I gave a stripper $100 to take to Vegas and put on the Ravens... no, I don't have her phone number, but we are friends on Twitter, so I'm sure she's good for it... my god, we have seen this sunset from 8 different angles... this is such bull####... I bet there are rattlesnakes out here... where is this place?... yeah, so you want to let your portfolio sweat..."Then there was silence. Romo asked when the poker tournament would be and was met with about 20 seconds of silence. I looked back and saw a look on GM's face that I can only describe as an eerily quiet rage - staring straight ahead, somewhat red in the face, with a look of intensity only see in eat-off photos. I almost threw up I laughed so hard.So we pulled in, and promptly lost a very angry GM (Thorn was supposed to be watching the baby). Finally, we got him settled and out came Sullen GM, who you'll see here eating. Keep in mind while watching this that no one is speaking to him. Homer and I happened to make eye contact as we both saw him shoveling food in his mouth - food which appeared to be speaking to him. My linkThe next video is GM saying grace. You can make out most of what he's saying if you listen closely. My link
:blackdot: for later. This description is :lmao: enough.

I appreciate all the kind words I have received. To help ensure I am able to stay open for business next year, please add a few comments/reviews to my website. My link
I will do this as soon as I can figure out how to lie without lying about staying there.I've meant to ask, do you purposefully not post the address on your website? Or am I missing it? Had to track it down from another site to make my surprise appearance. If I were looking to rent I would not necessarily make the effort.

 Will do.Speaking of staying open for business... did you come out ok money wise on this?
Netted out a couple hundred, a box of leftover half-full booze (no pappy), and a couple cases of beer. And I am cool with that. I just did not want to go negative. Getting this together and making it work and be fun was my main objective and that was accomplished. I cannot express how satisfying it was.I won't name names and certainly do not want to embarrass anyone, but in situations like this the staff should get a tip. Most of you did and I imagine the couple who did not just forgot in the midst of their foggy hangovers. I covered those that did not and still came out slightly ahead, so we're all good. Also, I only had to turn down two reservation requests for that weekend, so the lost revenue was not bad.

The crazy GM facial expressions put it over the top, I couldn't stop laughing. When I grow up I want to be like GM.
But have you figured out how to make it sweat yet? My best guess is probably wrong.
:lmao: Making your assets sweat is a throw-back phrase to investors who would chase yield and return on their investments.

Once upon a time, people bought stocks because of their dividends, right Tanner? You bought Ma Bell or Standard Oil or GE because they would pay a 6% dividend. If the stock went up in value, that was just gravy. If it went down, you bought more of it. As long as you were getting a quarterly dividend check, market direction wasn't really relevant (barring a crash).

But then we reached a new paradigm in the American stock markets and paying a dividend was 'gay'. Yield was what your grandfather wanted. We want growth, baby. Give me a stock that doubles and splits repeatedly and damn it all to hell with your old fashioned metrics for valuation. PE Ratio? Please. Price to sales? Bah. Debt on the balance sheet? Who cares! So long as the stock goes higher, nothing else matters. Sound familiar? Housing market anyone?

A guy in his late 20's with a good job and no kids in the proverbial sweet spot in life. Assuming no debt, he/she could leverage their money to go into real estate, buy a spec house and have somebody pay that mortgage for them via rent. And right now, there are a LOT of families who lost their houses to foreclosure who don't want to live in an apartment. Rental rates are sky high. Mortgage rates are at historic lows. RIGHT ROMO? And with additional money coming in, build yourself a portfolio of stocks; throw some of it risky uranium plays and the like, but put the bulk in mature companies that throw off a healthy dividend. Reinvest those dividends into buying more shares of that stock and just sit on your hands.

I've often wondered why people planning for retirement don't focus on dividend paying stocks. Seems like a better idea then buying looking just for the price to increase. What's the best way to find stocks with good dividends?

Yes I do not make the address easy to find. First off, I like the secluded, off the grid setting I have and will not even put up a sign.Second, too many people already call late at night looking for a room. I sure as hell don't want them knocking at my door in the middle of the night. If I don't know someone is coming and when, I do not want them and make no attempt to make them feel welcome (except someone like you who I halfway expected and were part of a group already there).

Have me, GM and LHUCKS prepare you a list. THen buy stocks not on that list.

I think the better question is how to find GOOD STOCKS that pay dividends. There are still hundreds of companies that will pay a dividend (and I think more equities will follow suit as the hunt for yield intensifies) and not all of them are worth your investment. Historically, utility companies, oil/gas, railroads...mature companies with good earnings have paid the most attractive dividends. A Duke Energy, for example, pays a nice 4% dividend, but at 90 bucks a share, you aren't buying too many shares unless your name rhymes with MistaDoor. Do a simple google search for 'how to pick a dividend paying stock' and you'll return dozens of good articles on how to find the right stocks for you. My link

This is articulated slightly better compared to the car conversation. I thought you wanted me to start keeping all my money in the oven or something. I really should be doing all that.. I don't want to go all Dentist and sacrifice my 20's by never having fun though. I guess it's about finding the right balance. I'm pretty ####ty at that right now. :bag:

Why would 10 shares of a company at 9 bucks paying a 4% be better than 1 share of a company at 90? Serious question. Isn't the percentage the focus?

Abe, TAP pays about a 3% yield, you may want to check that one out. It's more than just a solid yield, it's about sustainability of that yield, and even better, chances for that stock to increase it's yield, in my eyes.As far as price goes, I don't like buying stocks trading at more than 40-50 bucks a share, generally. However, I did buy WBK at $100 bucks per share back in May, as it had a 7% yield, and any stock I think is solid and offering me 7% is o.k. by me.

Have the various tipping threads in the FFA not taught you anything?

Honestly, I'd probably forgotten in this scenario even though I know better and felt terrible about it now. I'd be scribbling out a quick paypal to cos pronto.

Is anyone else's head spinning that GM can put on a performance like that this weekend and then write cogent posts about complicated topics like this?

Man, I was GREAT between 9pm-11pm Friday and again 11am-3pm Saturday. Rest of the time, pure poop show. :bag:

How did HJS end up with this pants down? Did he lose win a bet?
He also voluntarily dropped them when he came home Sunday night. It wasn't really that much different than seeing him during the day, since his sitting at the poker table always resulted in our being able to see not only his boxers but a fair amount of his disturbingly wide butt-crack. YSR and I debated dropping something in it, like a Space Shuttle, but I'm not sure anyone ever did.

I've been buying a lot of NI (Nisource). 3.6% dividend yield, and the stock is still only around 26.8 right now. In January, I made an 8.5% profit on the stock price as well, so that was a bonus.
