GM's thread about nothing (21 Viewers)

Got a call from Shuke asking if wanted to join him at the reds game tonight.

Too bad I have my daughter and he called an hour before first pitch :kicksrock:

Thanks for the invite though, GB. Wish I could have made it!

You know what I've always wondered about Dry Cleaning but have been afraid to ask for fear that I'd look like an idiot? What the hell exactly is "dry cleaning"? I bring my "dirty" wrinkled shirts there and then I pick them up and they are clean and pressed. I never really thought about it, but what goes on during this "dry" cleaning process? "Dry" implies the clothes don't get wet. How do they "clean" the clothes? I also have dumb questions related to this magical "paypal" thingy, but I'll wait and ask that tomorrow.

Listen to Pickles. He does science.
Speaking of this, one of Pickles' colleagues is coming to our mothership to give a presentation, but I think this guy would be much more entertaining.

Is Steve Martin actually coming to give a talk? Like, the scientist guy, not the wild and crazy guy?

I went to the Rangers/Astros game today. Ended up having seats with a $375 face value right behind home plate in the third row. They came with an access to a buffet and sundae bar. Shuke would have loved it. It was the coolest baseball experience I've ever had in person. Only 15K in attendance at the Juice Box for the third game of the year.

Elvis Andrus from my seat today.

I bet you could feel the whiffs from the Astros' bats from there.

Yeah, they're pretty bad. They're a welcome addition to the AL West. Carlos Pena and Rick Ankiel were the only guys on the whole team that I'd heard of.

Breaking news: Great American Ball Park now sells beer until the 9th inning. :o
Awesome. I saw an article about concession pricing and read you can get a beer at the diamondbacks for $4 and a hot dog for $1.25. That's enough to make me a fan of the team even if I never go. With the Astros on the AL I'm looking for an nl team to root for. Seems as good a reason as any.

Used to be I could hover my cursor over a thread title and get a 'preview' of it in a little box so I could read a snippet before opening. No longer. Add that into the complaint box. How the hell am I supposed to know what threads to avoid opening now?

The end is nigh.

Yes, this is the topic "On the Role of Boron on the Structure and Properties of Mixed Glass Former Na+ Ion Conducting Solid Electrolytes"

:grad:

There's an arrow on the same line of each thread that if you click it you can now see the first and last post of a thread.

Reds dominating so far. Hope Shuke found a buddy to go to the game.
I'm sure he can find a sandwich shop there. No worries.
I have my money on some skyline chili dogs.
Too expensive at the stadium. Stopped here on the way home http://www.campwashingtonchili.com/
Drool.
I didn't mention that I spilled a bunch in my car. Totally stinks like day-old onions in there now.

Hey Cinncy peeps. Serious post here: One of the posters over at The Beer Spot has gone missing in Cincinnati. Here is some that we are spreading around:

Here is some info on Sean Urk:

Born and raised in Cincinnati. Lives in Finneytown with wife and daughter. Drives a silver toyota matrix with a fog lamp missing from the front grill. He works for Ohio Valley Distributing and he uses his car for a work car so there will be beer schwag throughout the trunk and back seat. Coasters, flyers, etc.

Approx 6'5" and 200 lbs. Very short, dark hair, glasses, thin build. Tall and lanky.

Thank you all very much for your ideas, support and help!

shuke, other Cinci guys-

This guy has been missing for a few days now. He's a member of thebeerspot and we're just getting out all the info we can-

I think it's been 48 hours now.

Not sure if it's made the news or not.

Nice. Wish I had known to watch for you on the tv. Two seasons ago I sat three rows behind Nolan for a spare Wed night game with the As. It's pretty cool down there. No sundae bar though. :sadbanana:

Any of you lawyer-ly types know anything about tax law? Specifically, can I claim a child care deduction if my wife made $275 last year? I know that if you have a stay-at-home parent you technically can't claim it, but if she made $275 is that enough to put us in the clear?

Ugh, that's not good. I'll be on the lookout, not sure how helpful that is, but I work near Finneytown so you never know

Friend of a friend disappeared once. He hated his overcontrolling wife and started driving to leave her, but at some point he chickened out and turned around. He couldn't think of any way to explain his disappearance for a day or two, so he faked a kidnapping story. I don't think it ended well for him after faking the police report and all that stuff, but he was fine.

Hope this dude just needed to get away for a bit.

A bartender at one of my old haunts disappeared for real once. He had gotten married and was flying out of Houston for his honeymoon. He somehow managed to other his passport in the car and left his new wife in the terminal to take the tram back to get it. Never came back to the terminal. She called police. Found him three days later in an abandoned house three miles from the airport wearing the same clothes. He ended up checked in to a mental hospital for a few days. Diagnosis was some sort of breakdown combined with some residual aftereffects from prior drug use. Last I heard he was well, still married, and they'd had a kid.

Does he own any dry cleaning establishments?
