Can someone explain wtf this is?

Until just now, I thought it was a movie coming out in the theaters, like Snakes on a Plane. When I saw all the posts about 'countdown' I thought we genuinely had people in here lining up in theaters to watch this tonight at midnight. Frosty? I'd expect him to do it. But Kev and YSR? Was very confused.

The fact that it was on some cable station and not a theater makes much more sense now, though I still can't understand opting to watch it voluntarily. I mean, absent any nudity, of course.

1) Your computer is likely infected and Symantec is worthless.

2) If you can, download RKILL and install it on your computer. Your infected computer might block to install, so if need be, download it onto a neutral computer and put it on a flash/thumb drive.

Q) Do the very same for Malwarebytes, which is the best free defender out there for computer herp.

3) Run your infected computer in safe mode. Do this by restarting your computer and banging on the F8 Key like Guster might a stranger's anoooos.

4) Once in safe mode, install both RKILL and Malwarebytes.

5) Once RKILL is installed, run it and be patient.

6) Once Malwarebytes is installed UPDATE it and run it (do a full scan). Do not BUY the premium, just roll with the free version and update it regularly. It's tops.

7) Restart your computer.

8) Uninstall symantec. It's garbage and you don't need to be paying for it if you are currently. Same goes for Macafee. Utter garbage.

9) Download, install, update and run CCleaner. This is a sweet little tool that will clean your registry, among other things. Think of this product like the mouthwash at the end of a dental visit. RKILL = Flossing, Malwarebytes = Brushing and CCLeaner = post rinse gargle.

Also, Avast was ineffective. Norton Power Eraser says it found it, and all I have to do is let it erase Word, Excel, PowerPoint and FindFast. The last two I can do without, but....

As I type, my hard drive is working furiously. On something. It will either crash again soon, or 20-ton doors on a missile silo outside of Minot, SD will slowly slide open.

RKILL will terminate ANY processes that are running that shouldn't be - did you download it from the infected computer or download it from a neutral computer and then install it into the infected one with a flash drive? Could make a difference. And it has to be done in Safe Mode. An updated free version of Malwarebytes is going to catch anything Herp related so long as you've RKILLed the process in Safe Mode and run an updated scan.

And I'd uninstall ALL other anti-virus related products entirely before doing what I suggest above. Get 'em out of there. Uninstall Norton, Avast, MacAfee...get 'em out. THEN do the RKILL et al steps again.

Also, have you tried a system restore? Could try that later....a program suggesting you delete any of the Windows Office Suite is pointing you in the VERY wrong direction.

And I'd uninstall ALL other anti-virus related products entirely before doing what I suggest above. Get 'em out of there. Uninstall Norton, Avast, MacAfee...get 'em out. THEN do the RKILL et al steps again.

Also, have you tried a system restore? Could try that later....a program suggesting you delete any of the Windows Office Suite is pointing you in the VERY wrong direction.

So I go over to my mom's to help her set up the Kindle we got for her 7 MONTHS AGO.

It wasn't my idea to give it to her. Her tech skills make GM look like Charles Babbage.

Anyway the Kindle thing went pretty well. I showed her how to "check out" ebooks from the county library and how to buy books with her Amazon account.

Then she wanted me to show her how to use Facebook on the Kindle (oh, I showed her how to find wifi hot-spots too).

So I get Facebook set up and I notice the little notification icon . She's got 72 notifications.

She's been on Facebook for over 2 years and never clicked on that icon once. She had no idea what it did.
