Yeah. The good news is that I don't give a wet fart what she says or thinks about me. My wife dislikes her even more now.Could have been worse. I was curious if she was trying to bring you into it, make you feel bad, or try to get your wife pissed at you as well.It was something like:What did Jim's ##### wife's message to your wife say? Was she #####ing to her about you and Jim?Yeah...there is a very long back-story about him, his wife, and his drinking. Not an alcoholic but makes stupid mistakes when drinking to excess. Once again, long story.
I didn't know about the DUI until the next morning. Jim's wife sends my wife a message on Facebook. Our wives are not friends in real life. In fact my wife dislikes Jim's wife more than I do.
I felt terrible when I heard. For most of that day I went back and forth with blaming myself a bit and then convincing myself Jim was responsible for his actions.
I finally texted him a couple of days later. I told him I was so ####ing sorry that it happened. He replied with "Yeah, it's my fault. I have to deal with it." I also asked him "Soooo...catching hell on the home-front?" He replied with "To put it mildly."
Of course his See You Next Tuesday of a wife starts posting crap on Facebook like "I can't believe this is happening. I'm living someone else's life right?" And then stupid motiviation pics about "rising above" or "moving forward" etc.
Then just 2 nights ago the wife and I are hanging out with some other friends and the wife tells me that Jim's wife posting something on FB like: "Does anyone know any apartments or rooms to rent...it's for "a friend". itch.
I text Jim:
Me: "Dude, you getting kicked out?"
Jim: Yep
Me: ####. Sorry, man.
Jim: Yeah but I guess it's for the best. Maybe a time for a fresh start. Make some changes.
[some stuff about doing what's best for his daughters etc]
Jim: You wouldn't know anything about apartments haha?
Now this is where I think I might have done him a solid after taking a tiny role in the ####-storm he's in. My older brother has this bad-### house in a gated community. He's single and works out of town 60% of the time. He has two extra bedrooms that he rents out. One of this is occupied by this mega-nerdy Asian-American engineer guy. All he does is stay in his room and play video games.
So I text my brother and ask if his other bedroom is still for rent and how much. Then I text Jim with the info.
Me:...great house with a pool, hot-tub etc.
Jim: Wow, thanks.
Me: One thing. Don't know if it matters but my brother has been sober for 20 years. Poster boy for AA. But he's not a Nazi about it.
Jim: Well, that's probably what I'm looking at so whatever.
"James was arrested last night for drunk driving. I'm pretty sure he met Brian at Imbibe. I don't know all the details but does he know what time they left or if they went somewhere else? And has he contacted Brian since last night?"
Actually I have no idea what she really wanted. I could guess that it was just her way of passively-aggressively snitching on Jim.
Good on you for finding him a great temporary place to live. His wife may think you're encouraging him though.
I don't think she'll try to contact me about all this but if she tries to give me any #### I think I'll just reply with:
"I never encouraged JIMMY to go out drinking with me after work (before he went home at night). He seemed to have a big enough motive on his own. Not sure what that motive was but I bet you can figure it out."

There's lots of stuff within a short drive or shuttle bus ride, for instance in downtown, but you don't have bars or restaurants in walking distance.

Rudnicki and I sucked down 2 maybe 3 Rolling Rocks and talked about IDP.
Chase and I sucked down infinity beers and talked about whether Sin would take his last name or if perhaps he should be a 90's man and go by Uni PDX the rest of his life.
Btw, Toro Bravo and Pine State Biscuits and Bunk Sandwiches are all really good.

This place has some of the tastiest cheeseburgers I've ever had. They do to-go, so you can go eat them at the beach with your daughter.
Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (aka the best freaking place on earth) closes Sept 4 if you're going by then.

Mr. krista's job here has become a ####-show, literally and figuratively.
Literally: sister of one of the restaurant owners is visiting and had so much tequila on Friday that she had explosive diarrhea and vomiting in the middle of the restaurant. Then the owner (who is Mexican-American) started yelling at all the Nicaraguans who were cleaning up the #### and vomit about "####### Nicaraguans" because she blamed the incident on a taxi driver who had not yet shown up to pick them up.
Figuratively: No customers witnessed this, because despite being the most well-reviewed restaurant in Nica, no one goes there any more (he's had some nights with no customers at all, many with two, and the most ever was 14), perhaps because they don't know what the hell they're doing. When we arrived we found they'd fired the sous chef and replaced him with a woman who has never cooked before, and they didn't have a working oven. The oven still has not been fixed. Two people have quit in the past two weeks because they are working 60 hours a week and not getting overtime, plus they did not get the double pay in December that is required by Nica law.
How are they working 60 hours a week when there are no customers? Well, for one thing the husband who is the other owner requires someone to walk two paces behind him whenever he goes out walking around, as a "bodyguard". This is not Memphis; there's virtually no crime.
Also they get their pay docked if there is anything missing like a bottle of beer or Coke. They also get docked if a dish or glass breaks, etc. No explanation or proof that they had anything to do with it (which is part of the cost of doing business anyway), just docked pay. Yesterday the wife got mad at Mr. krista for taking a beer himself and telling the bartender to write it down--yes, as Executive Chef he has to write down if he so much as drinks a Coke--instead of having the bartender give it to him. She said if things were missing the other employees would suffering, basically accusing him of stealing. The bartender also told him that the owners were mad at him for drinking out of a bottle--they freak out at anyone, including customers, not drinking a beer out of a glass.
tl;dr I put the over/under for his quitting the job at Thursday. Am open to suggestions for how to deal with these people; it's bad enough to treat us this way, but basically stealing from hard-working Nicaraguan employees just makes me livid.
