I ####ing hate telemarketers. We of course have been on the national do not call list for years but still get crap occasionally.

I got one today where there is a recording, and you can press 1 to talk to someone. I always do. Today was something about my car warranty having run out.

"Hi am I speaking to <shuke>?"

"Yes"

"This is Jerry from Motor Vehicle Services. I"m calling about your manufacturers warranty for your Dodge Caravan that just expired"

"What company is this?"

"Motor Vehicle Services. Sir, I'd like to talk to you..."

"Where are you located?"

"This branch is in NJ but we are all over nationally. Sir, what I'm calling for..."

"What is the address and phone number of your company?"

"Why do you need to know that?"

"Pardon me?"

"Why do you need to know that information sir?"

"Because I'd like to know the information of the company that is calling to do business with me".

"I'm not calling to do business with you. I'm just calling as a courtesy to let you know that your warranty has expired"

You;re kinda north central relatively close in, right? Arlington hotels are crazy expensive this weekend- may stay in downtown or Park Central or North Airport areas for the cheap rates. The Westin toward Grapevine is only $65 and include free internet. Problem is its out in nomansland. Pretty sure mass transit to Arlington Stadium is illegal.

Don't you think it would be cool if you could scare mosquitoes away like you do rabbits & squirrels? Just hang some plastic Purple Martins around and the mosquitoes would be like "hey Frank! Bill! Jim! Watch out! Purple Martins!!". Then they just fly away. That would be cool.

I have no where else to put this. But isn't that what this thread is for? -

I quit cable about 5 months ago and have been living on Netflix and basic channel antenna broadcasting. I've actually enjoyed it. But with football season here today, I stopped by my local Verizon Plus store yesterday and inquired about adding ESPN to my bill (I get interweb through Verizon and they gave me a cable box for local channels which I really don't use).

Me: How much to add ESPN just for football season?

Verizon Dude: Our basic cable package that just includes ESPN is an additional $25 a month to your bill. Would you like a two year contract?

Me: No, just the football season. Thanks. This is ESPN in HD correct?

Verizon Dude: No, you'd get the non-HD version. Would you like to add an HD box for $13 per month?

Me: So to get ESPN in HD, I need to pay an additional $38 a month to my bill?

Verizon Dude: Correct.

Me: Okay.

Cable company death cometh, and that right soon.

God, I'm so ready to cut the cord. Know what my DirecTV bill is this month? $203. Add another $50 for internet. Know why - besides being an idiot - I haven't ditched DTV/cable? Because I can't get OTA channels on antenna out here in HillbillyMethLand, which means I get no live NFL. So, the ####### NFL is driving my $200/mo habit.

To be fair to DTV, my bill will drop back all the way to $140/mo come January. :fml:

I could list a bunch of reasons, but they all boil down to "I'm an idiot".

Actually, I'll call them (like I do every year), ##### and moan with some sob story. Then they'll reduce it.

WTF is the point of having home owners insurance? We're getting our bathroom remodeled and during the tear down portion the contractor found black mold and rotted wood from a leak. Extra cost, of course, to kill/remove the mold and get new wood, insulation, etc.

So we call up the home owners insurance company, which told us they wouldn't pay the claim if there was wood rot or anything that indicated the leak was more than a couple of weeks old.

F'n insurance companies.

Wood rot is often an exclusion listed on homeowners policies. Have you reviewed your policy to make sure it is?

Can they tell the source of the leak? Have you had any major storms recently that might have caused damage? Have you had any other work done to the house that might have contributed to the damage?
