GM's thread about nothing (18 Viewers)

Btw, had several conversations in the last few weeks about raising 400k to buy the bar I was working at. Pretty sure that would be made back within 2.5 years.

I want that to happen more than I want the ascot to come back in style.

I hope and pray that this Wednesday will be the first Wednesday that I do NOT hear or see someone make a reference to the stupid hump day camel commercial. I've come to hate any commercial that doesn't have Dikembe Mutombo in it.
We've got a camel costume at work. A couple of dudes put it on on Wednesdays and lope around the office. I #### you not.
:lmao: No ####ing way. That is ridiculously stupid.
You spelled "THIS IS THE BEST ####### THING EVER AND I WANT TO WORK WHEREVER GPJ WORKS" wrong.

Where would you rather go?

Top Golf

or

Drink and Drive
I spent a few months as a telemarketing fundraiser for the Republican Party of Texas when I was in school. Memberships were $36.50. Just a dime a day to keep the Democrats a way.

Anyhow, I used to sneak down to Sixth Street and pound shots with this frat bro during our 10 minute breaks on the evening shifts. He would tell me that he had this million dollar idea but he couldn't share the details because he was afraid someone would steal it. Finally, one night he told me that he wanted to start a driving range/bar called Drink and Drive.

Glad to be a business owner with GM and Uni. Krista, your investment is gonna pay for itself tenfold just in the entertainment value.
:hifive:

Drink and Drive is genius. And since we won't be an actual franchise we can add our own twist to the concept, like strippers. Or maybe the General Malaise VIP room which provides discrete hookers and cocaine to billionaire hedge fund guys.

Everything's coming up Milhouse!

Hopefully the business relationship won't suffer when I'm CONSTANTLY trying to make out with you.

And yeah, the billionaire services aspect is still totally in play. SLB and I will handle that side of things. You work on the strippers.

He also made an appearance during a division meeting. 200 people or so. Our fearless leader didn't acknowledge the camel, or even break his spiel. It was impressive. I think people were kind of weirded out.

We've had torrential rain for several hours now. This is a bad time to have a pool in your living room.

:thirdworldproblems:

Where would you rank tapping into your 401k and refinancing your house to start a "cookie molds" business at age 54 on a scale of ######ed to mop?

Every Wednesday morning in the month of August a woman from my department would put a small pillow under the back of her shirt and walk into my office saying "MIKE MIKE MIKE MIKE MIKE MIKE". We no longer speak to each other.

What could possibly go wrong?
Other than spending a #### load of money at a large Philly law firm for patents and having 1000s made in china so you can meet qvc's minimum quantity requirements, then selling maybe 60 on there and then doing virtually nothing over the next 6 years to move your inventory?

How does a cookie mold differ from, say, a cookie cutter? Why would one buy a cookie mold? Is cookie batter in danger of spilling all over and losing its solid football/bear/Angelina Jolie silhouette shape?

It's an idea almost as bad as a jump to conclusions mat. The mold concept was apparently to make evenly shaped cookies every time. This is my MIL here. I'm just learning more details about this "business" gone wrong now that we are talking about her 60th bday coming up. My wife always stresses about her mom, and now I am learning more about the reasons. Nice lady, but not the brightest with some things, especially finances. Explains a lot about why my wife is very adamant about saving money.

Why would someone sell a bar making $160k/yr for $400k?
Not out of the realm of what folks ask for a business. Some people want out of it...too much to manage, other investments take priority, etc

2.5x earnings for a restaurant or bar is about right.

Most narrow scale ever?
Yea, I cannot really explain how dumb I think this idea was. Had I been in the picture back then, this wouldn't have happened. The wife says nobody in the family thought this was a good idea, yet her cousin helped her get the patent work done at the firm she was with at the time. Apparently legal bills out the ### for this crap, so knowing somebody at the firm didn't help. She would have been better served going to a boutique firm instead of downtown Philly. We've tried to talk her into just doing whatever it takes to unload inventory. Go door-to-door to bakeries, specialty food stores, card stores, etc. Just unload the things so you have SOME cash. She makes decent money doing employee benefits management, but still lives paycheck to paycheck while living alone in a 2BR townhouse. She's going to be working until she drops.

Cookie molds are a pretty much a fad. This is a terrible idea for an investment. I'd rank it right up there with juicers, fondue sets, and aspic molds.
