GM's thread about nothing (23 Viewers)

So, we're getting sued. As I've mentioned before, we have a few rental properties here in Knoxville. We have had issues with this one house for a while... paying late, ducking phone calls and visits when late with the rent, etc. We started the eviction process about 4-5 months ago, but they came up with the money at the last minute and we stupidly ( :wall: ) let them stay. The wife is a real piece of work, but the husband is a good guy who really is trying. Mr. YSR will throw him some labor work from time to time to help lessen the burden of rent for them. Basically, we've tried to help them the best we can.

Last night, a sheriff showed up with a summons at my in-laws' looking for Mr. YSR. They also had one for my FIL (who I think is listed on their lease as the property manager, since we were living in FL when they moved in). Apparently, the wife fell in a hole LAST OCTOBER and hurt her arm, and she's suing us now. She's hired an attorney and the summons is asking for a list of all of our assets.

Our lease has liability language protecting us against injury, etc., but this is going to be a pain in the ### and it just makes me angry.
Do you have insurance?

Cal decided to "use" his mother's razor in the shower last night. He came out with a big patch missing in the middle front of his head and patches missing on both sides of his head. I just thought my eyes were playing tricks on me because his hair was wet. Now he looks like a mental case too. Oh and picture day is tomorrow.

oof

thopras to all that needs it, Drifter, SLB and Homer to mention but a few.
Thanks GB, everybody else too.

Sorry but... :lmao:

Cal has been a mess this year at school. I'll spare you a lot of details but it has been killing me inside. It has made so screwed up I even thought that somebody here, that I've considered a GB for a long time, was mad at me. Anyhow, just minutes ago I received an e-mail from his teacher that he told her I beat him. Again. This is the second time this school year he told her that. The worst part is he then said he wants to kill himself. I don't believe this to be true but it is sickening all the same. We are meeting with his doctor tomorrow about changing his meds and another trip to a psychiatrist on Friday. So if you wonder why I've been MIA a lot from here the last month or so, that's why.
So sorry to read something like this. Hope you guys can turn a corner soon and I really apologize if trying to arrange a meetup in St. Louis contributed in any way to your stress levels, GB. Sounds like I couldn't have been coming to town at a worse time for you.
Not at all GB. Not at all. If I would have saw your PM earlier, I would have hooked up Friday afternoon for a couple of drinks for sure.

That really sucks. Sorry to hear this GB.

Do you have insurance?
Yes. We spoke to our broker who told us that the general liability part of the policy doesn't cover the tenant, only guests on the property. I feel like that can't be right, but I will have to look at the policy when I get home later.

By way of an update, Mr. YSR now has a copy of the summons that was served on his father last night. She is suing us for a million dollars. :lmao: I mean, why not a BILLION?

Also, the first Google search result for her attorney is a link to www.noethics.net detailing how he was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class E Felony, and how his license was suspended for 2 years as a result of it. I wish I could make this stuff up.

On a radio show I listen to on occasion, there is this gal on some segments that goes my Kara the Lesbian. She works at the aforementioned Show Me's, the location right by my house. (I was surprised to find out they've expanded to other States). Anyhow, the other day she was talking about she has never taken a #### and a three way she had on New Year's Eve in HS. It was really difficult to drive. I finally got around to Googling her and I found this.

Oh man

Oh it would be HILARIOUS if I didn't have to deal with all of this other ####. His teacher thought it was funny. This afternoon I went to his school to drop off his new afternoon medicine and the nurse was laughing too. Apparently I just missed him because he hit his head on a pole at recess. :rubsfaceandheadinadisgruntledmanner:

They are looking for a settlement from you because they need money. You already know this but in honor of Tim's appearance earlier in this thread I felt the need to state the obvious.

She seems like a wholesome young lass.

Also got clocked for going "Hisashi Iwakuma fastball" in Kern County, so I guess I'm helping to pay Tanner's salary at some point in the next few months.
Fine, don't stop and say "hi".
Wrong freeway. And I don't f around when I'm driving.

Disneyland wasn't so bad. Lots of awful tattoos (Disney-related and otherwise), but late September mid-week with decent weather, it was reasonable. Pretty short lines, we basically walked on to the teacups. There's no bloody way I'd ever go there without kids though.

Speaking of bloody ways, CQ, you mentioned your daughter had made it through a month of HS without getting pregnant...has she had her period yet? Let's not count our chickens here.
Did you at least give me the finger as you drove through/by Buttonwillow?
people actually live in buttonwillow?

How badly was the other kid hurt?
lol

Oh she has a dirty mouth. Just turned 24 a couple of weeks ago.

Yep. It's pretty much a dump but there are some pretty rich farming families that still live out there (or at least on the outskirts).

So I have a friend who would fit into the GMTAN of late; two years ago his wife was pregnant with twins, she lost one, the other was born 2 month pre-mature; they're pregnant again and he has to give her injections and ####, she's all hormonal; 8 months into the pregnancy their house has a leak and floods; then there is mold discovered and more mold and insurance/condo association issues, and more mold; they need to replace basically the entire first floor; they have to live at his MIL's house; baby comes but they are in and out of hospital because he has some heart and eating issues; my friend breaks his heel; his grand mother got put into hospice; they are still at the MIL's; and worst of all he isn't caught up on Breaking Bad.

When I get to see them next month, I want to bring him a good bottle of scotch or a rare bourbon or whiskey. Also, something relaxing for the wife, although I do not want 100s on a spa day. Of course We will get something for the baby and sister as well, but those things are always dumb. Thoughts?

I thought it was just a STL thing.

We were back for the Regional Finals of the NCAA tournament one year ('99?), and we hit the one on the Landing. We ended up sitting at the table next to the entire Sczerbiak family. 'Cause, really, where else do you take your family in St. Louis when you have an off day from playing basketball?

His girlfriend (or could have been sister, I guess?) was considerably hotter than any of the womens working there. If history is any indication, Kara has to be in the top 1% of Show Me's talent.

I haven't stepped in this thread in months.

I remember this thread as a whimsical happy place. Now it's just sad like grandma's room in the nursing home.

Smells funny too.

When I was researching (cyber stalking?) Kara I discovered this on their home page:

That should cancel things out. Spa or Brad Pitt.

;)

I think he prefers bourbon actually, but he'd appreciate anything that was good. Not a noob, but he isn't a super snob yet either.

My grandfather's wife's 50-year-old, 400-pound son lives with them and is a real peach. I looked into this a couple of years ago in case my grandfather were to try to throw him out, and in that state at least he had to treat him as a tenant with notice, etc. Sorry to go all lawyerly but there's a good chance she can't just kick them out. fish or Thorn or Leeroy Jenkins or someone else who actually knows about real estate law will be by with better advice.

If this is Alabama beating the #### out of the nephew is probably OK, though.
At least in my state, a person can't claim to be a tenant-at-will unless there has been an exchange of rent.
Thorn, please to clean out your inbox. TIA.
