GM's thread about nothing (63 Viewers)

GM, a disaster has ensued. Last night, 2-1/2 episodes from the end of Wires, my On Demand stopped working. Efforting another vehicle for watching; might have to install Netflix.
you're not going to be happy after you install Netflix. The Wire is not on streaming; you have to actually wait for the DVDs.. :o
If you have HBO, then you have access to HBOGO on your PC, Tablet, or smartphone. Every episode of the wire (and almost every other HBO series ever made) is available on there, for free, provided you are an HBO subscriber.
yes, but you missed the part where she said that it stopped working.
She said ondemand. I just assumed the cable provider's ondemand just pulled the episodes.
Yeah, I thought she meant HBO's OnDemand.
I might have. Listen, other than knowing you don't install Netflix, I'm at about a GM level of understanding of TV/internet technology stuff. There's some station I go to (1501) where it lists all HBO programs and I can watch them. That's no longer working. Seems like Leeroy's thing will work, though not as satisfying as watching on 65-inch screen. :kicksrock:

OK, even I know what an HDMI cable is, so this helps. I'm not sure we have any, though. We don't have any stuff any more.

I think we're going to do that thing where you get rid of cable/satellite and do the Roku/Apple TV thing. I'm kind of scared.
sucks for sports, but I guess you can stream most games online these days. the image quality isn't very good though.
Yeah, this is the rub. For MLB I order the package that I can stream on PS3/Xbox/Roku, etc. Is there similar for cfb/nfl?

Well, if you have DirecTv or cable, you're using an hdmi to connect from that box to the tv. You could just unplug from the box and plug into your laptop. Or locate another hdmi cable.

Don't know if anyone mentioned, but went to a show with Fatguy, scoob, Zilla, and scorchy. Had an effing blast, and really appreciated the invite.

Well, I had a blast for the first 75% of the night. My memory over the last couple of hours is a little foggy, as I may or may not have consumed a substance for the first time in years, and it made me a bit of a goofy mess by the end of the evening. I distinctly remember NEEDING to get a slice of pizza at some point and disappearing and eating the biggest, greasiest slice I've tasted in years (but oh, so delicious). Then coming back, apologizing for leaving, and then stumbling off again. I ran into a couple of women from my office and had a drink with them. I thought it would be funny to call them by the wrong names the whole time, and to talk about the movies out now that I've seen that didn't actually exist ("Thor 7--It's Clobbering Time," and "Hi Fidelity 2, Electric Boogaloo"). That was met with a mixed response, I think (confusion? exasperation? lust? pity?).

On the cab ride home, I remember calling the cabbie "Ramone" for some reason, over and over, but I don't really remember why. I don't think it was his name. I then stumbled into the basement apartment that I've moved into and slept like the dead. I woke up to my son prying open my eyelid and telling me it was time to play Call of Duty Ghosts (the X-Box is in the basement apartment with me). I felt like ### and almost puked, but I'm always ready to game with my son.

So overall a successful night. Thanks, Fatguy for inviting me. I really appreciate it.

strong showing from Es Pipi? this week, ending the 5-game winning streak for Reese's Power.

Also looks like Power Aids will be alone in 1st place at 8-3 with the highest scoring team.

Not all laptops have that capability.
Like no HDMI slot? So they have to use VGA cables? (Tanner>hi)
Yeah, crazy I know...I've had many corporate laptops assigned to me over the years, and only recently started to get HDMI as standard. Can always use VGA I guess, but that's usually not as easy as HDMI. You would also need separate audio.

Yeah, no sound with VGA iirc.

Yeah, no sound with VGA iirc.
Yup, you would need a separate audio cable, and can sometime get audio/video synch issues
In the old days I would just crank up the laptop sound. Not ideal. Even today with the HDMI I have to use the TV sound instead of my surround sound, but I'm probably doing something wrong/being lazy.
you can go vga for the picture and a headphone to RCA splitter for audio:

Depends on how your surround sound is routed. If the surround sound isn't going through TV, but rather through a separate unit, you would have to feed laptop audio to that one instead, which is a pain.

When I do that on my laptop, the monitor goes dark. Can't see anything on the TV or the laptop

I love my ASUS Laptop, but no one can seem to figure out why my computer does this when I hook up my HDMI to the TV

Man, I found out today that the 16 year old daughter of one of my college buddies took her own life this weekend, I guess due to bullying is what I can gather from Facebook. I don't get it. This was a beautiful girl involved in sports, cheerleading, etc. Sickening.
This makes me so sad. :(

Terrible
Has bullying really gotten out of hand or do we just hear about it more with social media, etc.?
Probably both.

A friend of mine lost his 17-year-old daughter this week under similar circumstances to your friend. Just awful.
That's it. I'm pulling the wireless internet out of the house. We're moving to Amish country. I hate this world.

Which asus laptop?Also, TV model?

Asus tablets will automatically transmit audio and video once you connect the computer to an HDMI device. Asus netbooks and laptops require you press the function key on the computer's keyboard containing the two monitors to activate the HDMI port.
ETA: If you are running Windows 7, you may have to hold [Windows Key] + [P-key] to switch between duplicate screen, extended screen etc.

Your receiver doesn't have an available HDMI input?
Mine only have 2, and they are both spoken for... :kicksrock: may have to upgrade.

Thanks, I'll try this tonight. I'm not sure which model the Laptop is or what model TV, however it's a SONY Bravia, about 5-6 yrs old

Yep. Mine has seven IIRC. Everything goes through that and the tv input never needs to change.
