GM's thread about nothing (11 Viewers)

My sister has been out of work since she and her abusive boyfriend got back from Nevada (where he got arrested for beating her as well as a DUI). Because of his legal troubles, they had to stay in Nevada longer than planned, meaning she missed work, meaning she got fired. She's a freaking mess. We don't talk much anymore, but that didn't stop her from sending me all sorts of nasty text messages last night. I called her immediately, not wanting to engage in a text battle. She was incoherent, crying, obviously drunk drunk. But it really bothered me because she sounded despondent, uttering things like "I don't want to go on". Terrified me. I called my mother and told her to get over there immediately (they live a few blocks away). Then called her ex-husband to make sure he had the kids with him. He did. Not sure what to do, but previous efforts to try and help her along have been met by hand bites and 'leave me alones'.

Mom said she was drunker than Cooter Brown and made her go to bed, but doesn't think she's a danger to herself. I'm not so sure.

Yeah, no sound with VGA iirc.
Yup, you would need a separate audio cable, and can sometime get audio/video synch issues
In the old days I would just crank up the laptop sound. Not ideal. Even today with the HDMI I have to use the TV sound instead of my surround sound, but I'm probably doing something wrong/being lazy.
Your receiver doesn't have an available HDMI input?
Mine only have 2, and they are both spoken for... :kicksrock: may have to upgrade.
You can get an HDMI switch that lets you split an HDMI port and switches automatically depending on what's in use

That sucks GB. Wish I had some advice.

Yeah, I have one of those, but it's only manual, and I refuse to use it.

strong showing from Es Pipi? this week, ending the 5-game winning streak for Reese's Power.

Also looks like Power Aids will be alone in 1st place at 8-3 with the highest scoring team.
I think if Edelman can score like 7 TDs and get 300 yards receiving, the Peanut Butter Cups might have a chance.

Or, even better, I used the old tried and true method I use for almost all technical issues: shut it (the DirecTV receiver) down and rebooted. Working fine now.

I have an automatic one that works great.

I know today's theme is about cable/wirless/internet/ports etc.....but can we talk about my pipes?

Last night I gave Little Zooks a bath and when the tub was full I turned the water off, but the water just slowed down to a steady stream and would not stop. Not just dripping, it was a solid stream. I turned it on all the way and then off again and water still kept coming down. It was getting late and I didn't want to deal with it so I went into the basement and shut off the main water valve so no water could come out of any spout or fossett in the house. This morning I turned the valve back on and took a shower, but still had the same problem of the water not stopping when I turned it off. Again, I turned the main valve off. Is there any chance this problem will self-correct without me doing anything? I'm not at all handy when it comes to these things. I assume I need to call a plumber? Should I just sell the house now and run?

I had no idea this existed and I've badly needed one for a while. Just ordered. Thanks -fish-!

It probably won't resolve itself. Your tub faucet is broken. Prob $200-$300 to have a plumber install a new one.

Hmmm, you already used the turn it off and back on method, so I've got nothin'.

Yeah.
Or I suppose I could just keep turning the main valve off and on in the basement every time I need running water. I'll need to think about this.

If you are handy at all, you may be able to fix it. There is a cartridge inside the handle that may have gone bad. Google it.

Yep. Mine has seven IIRC. Everything goes through that and the tv input never needs to change.
Yeah, this is what I need to do. Not sure how many inputs I have though.

Yeah, I'm totally lost now. Maybe I'll just never watch. I know I don't want to see what happens in the penultimate episode anyway. :(
To put it easy... Do you see this: http://cdn-static.cnet.co.uk/i/c/rv/e/laptops/samsung/r700/story_1.jpg anywhere on your laptop? If so, buy an HDMI cable in any store, and WA LA.
Another person on the googles says to "Change your power plan to Power4Gear Entertainment " whatever that means. Seems like Asus is kind of a #### with this stuff.

Burn house imo

Serious answer: You might just have a blown/cracked gasket in one of your faucet handles. Turn water main off and remove and see how jacked it is.

Or call a plumber if you're a wussy halfman.

Was this meant for me? Either way, I'll look into this.

Even ASUS Customer Service couldn't help me, seemed like they were more clueless than me

Teflon tape and some wrenches and you should be GTG
REPAIRING WASHER-TYPE BATH AND SHOWER FAUCETS

To take apart a bath/shower faucet for repair, first turn off the water. Then take the faucet apart by removing its handle, escutcheon and packing nut. The packing nut may be buried deeply in the wall, requiring a socket wrench for removal.

Your bath and shower faucets may have a renewable seat that can be smoothed with a seat-dressing tool or removed and replaced using a seat wrench. For replacing and repacking the washer, follow the same instructions provided for a washer-type faucet. Some faucets may need a complete replacement of the combination stem/seat unit.

Ok, I'll call the plumber. Thanks

Zooks - if it's a newer faucet, it should be easy to replace. If it's older (like 40 years or older), mucking around with fixing the seat can be a real pain in the ###.

Yeah there's no chance of me attempting to do anything. However, I feel like my Dad will be impressed when I tell him about it and use the phrase "fixing the seat". He'll still make fun of me though.
