TPW to SLB, Leeroy and all that I know that I am forgetting.

It has been a really crappy week here too. Last Sunday, I lost a good friend to a sudden heart attack. He was only 44 yrs old. His passing has hit me pretty hard. He was the first good friend, my age that has passed. He was a great guy. The type of person that you became friends with the first time you met him. He left a wife, 16 yr old daughter and an 8 yr old son. He was their hero. He was such a great dad.

And now this weekend we have had to deal with my wife's step mother being admitted to the hospital full of cancer. We don't know how long she has but it's not a good prognosis.

Not even sure if I have much more to say.

The funerals I've been to all involve these people with deep connections to everyone there and people have these stories about how the deceased made the world a better place. I always imagine at my that someone will stand up and say "That bentley, he usually didn't stick his #### in the mashed potatoes." Then everyone will get drunk enough that they don't really remember what happened and go on with their life.

Preparing to give my magnum opus, the 95 slide presentation on presenting in the morning. Every time I do this, I have people in the class send me a recent slide presentation to use for examples of dos and don'ts throughout the class. I don't think anyone has ever sent me a good slide deck. This time I had someone send me a 15 slide show that was nothing other than a reprint of a section from the Texas Labor Code with no bullet points, images, animation or anything else.

Oh, and I was supposed to move in with the GF in January when she's done remodeling. My daughter was going to get the former master bedroom, and already picked out paint and stencils to decorate the room.

GF doesn't want to take her on at this point if I have full-time custody.
:( Ugh, that's the worst. So sorry to hear GB.

Also, if anybody has any good news feel free to fire away, need to change the tide here.
I would say that while my wife is still having migraines, she is feeling good enough to be motivated to do something about the condition of the house. With how she has been feeling, and me traveling and us being busy with the kids, we have fallen behind in repairs, organization, etc. I took a van-full of crap to Goodwill this weekend and have half of the garage filled with items we are listing on Craigslist. This has been a big source of stress for the both of us so hopefully things are on the upswing.
Good to hear, hope she keeps getting better
Thanks, man. Baby steps.

Does your presentation on presentations have lots of pictures of xzibhit?

Put me down in the don't use animations in PowerPoint camp.

Watching local news right now. Next story up: how much are your electronics costing you when you're not using them, simply because they're plugged in?

This is basically porn for my wife.

Animations usually suck because people suck at putting together presentations. If used properly, they can be very powerful when illustrating a point.

I have rarely seen an animation positively used other than for a laugh. Not saying it's not possible, just in my experience and ####.

GM, a disaster has ensued. Last night, 2-1/2 episodes from the end of Wires, my On Demand stopped working. Efforting another vehicle for watching; might have to install Netflix.
you're not going to be happy after you install Netflix. The Wire is not on streaming; you have to actually wait for the DVDs.. :o
If you have HBO, then you have access to HBOGO on your PC, Tablet, or smartphone. Every episode of the wire (and almost every other HBO series ever made) is available on there, for free, provided you are an HBO subscriber.
yes, but you missed the part where she said that it stopped working.
She said ondemand. I just assumed the cable provider's ondemand just pulled the episodes.
Yeah, I thought she meant HBO's OnDemand.
I might have. Listen, other than knowing you don't install Netflix, I'm at about a GM level of understanding of TV/internet technology stuff. There's some station I go to (1501) where it lists all HBO programs and I can watch them. That's no longer working. Seems like Leeroy's thing will work, though not as satisfying as watching on 65-inch screen. :kicksrock:
If you have an hdmi cable just plug your laptop into said screen, wa la
OK, even I know what an HDMI cable is, so this helps. I'm not sure we have any, though. We don't have any stuff any more.
It's a shame they don't sell them any more.

We're probably well beyond the GMTAN tolerance for PowerPoint discussion but it could work in the legal cite above. If it's important to have the entire section of code, but I'm going to emphasize three or four key words, a simple animation where the code appears, then everything other than those terms is grayed out while those are brought to the front and appear in a different color could be useful.

Damn man. You want to move on with me?

My sister has been out of work since she and her abusive boyfriend got back from Nevada (where he got arrested for beating her as well as a DUI). Because of his legal troubles, they had to stay in Nevada longer than planned, meaning she missed work, meaning she got fired. She's a freaking mess. We don't talk much anymore, but that didn't stop her from sending me all sorts of nasty text messages last night. I called her immediately, not wanting to engage in a text battle. She was incoherent, crying, obviously drunk drunk. But it really bothered me because she sounded despondent, uttering things like "I don't want to go on". Terrified me. I called my mother and told her to get over there immediately (they live a few blocks away). Then called her ex-husband to make sure he had the kids with him. He did. Not sure what to do, but previous efforts to try and help her along have been met by hand bites and 'leave me alones'.

Mom said she was drunker than Cooter Brown and made her go to bed, but doesn't think she's a danger to herself. I'm not so sure.
Sorry, brother. I wish I had advice for you.

Christ, sorry Stoney. :(

Yes, sorry GB.

I know today's theme is about cable/wirless/internet/ports etc.....but can we talk about my pipes?

Last night I gave Little Zooks a bath and when the tub was full I turned the water off, but the water just slowed down to a steady stream and would not stop. Not just dripping, it was a solid stream. I turned it on all the way and then off again and water still kept coming down. It was getting late and I didn't want to deal with it so I went into the basement and shut off the main water valve so no water could come out of any spout or fossett in the house. This morning I turned the valve back on and took a shower, but still had the same problem of the water not stopping when I turned it off. Again, I turned the main valve off. Is there any chance this problem will self-correct without me doing anything? I'm not at all handy when it comes to these things. I assume I need to call a plumber? Should I just sell the house now and run?
Fossett, GM?

Yes, you need to call a plumber. I'm semi-handy and wouldn't know what to do about a shower.

SUrprised it took them 15 slides of legal code to tell employees to #### off.

How does one relinquish custody rights at a dr's office?
As far as I can tell, my ex got in a huge fight with my daughter that escalated to the point that my ex (1) called 911 then (2) drove to her doctor to try to have her sedated. The doctor declared my daughter a danger to herself or others (specifically my ex) which triggered me accepting custody or CPS stepping in. Or something like that. I'm still not clear on details. All I know is my daughter is now living with me, eating pizza and watching tv like nothing happened.

I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but the best I can understand it my ex-wife is at my daughter's doctor and has just (temporarily?) relinquished her custody rights??????? She's moving in with me as of tonight. I can't get anyone to give me any information about what's going on, and I'm an hour and a half away and working.
####, hippling here so hope everything is okay.
