Weird day.
My sister is in town for Xmas. First time the whole family has been together for Xmas in 7 years. We are taking family photos at my mothers request. My BIL are drinking to make it remotely enjoyable(neither of us can stand the woman my mom hired, we've known her for years)
Cousins are playing, all is well.
Wife's phone rings. "your mammogram is irregular, please come in ASAP for further testing".
wife's mom died of breast cancer. Wife is a complete ####### basket case.
We take today's appointment, rather than wait till after the new year. Drive 1.5 hours home, leaving my daughter at my moms. 2 hours of further imaging provides some peace as they say it looks 98-99% probability of it being benign. But to be sure we'll be doing a biopsy due to family history. drive 1.5 hours back. Slightly drunk now.
I sent a video to homer cause I'm an innerwebs tard toasting my wife's cancer freeness.

I'm gonna toast to it too, DaR. I know what that emotional rollercoaster is like. I hope you don't get used to it, my friend.
Heading out in a bit towards Annapolis. The facility my father is in is having their Christmas dinner today, so my mom, myself, and my brother are going. I've been to other functions this place has thrown and expect it to be pretty decent - as much as can be expected, anyway. I used to dread going there, because it's just so damned sad. But I don't anymore - it's still sad, but it can be funny as hell too. There's like an odd black market going on, though no one knows what they're doing. Most of the patients that can get around steal from each other, just to have their loot re-stolen. Last time I was there, my father was wearing a pink baseball hat that said "World's Greatest Mom!" on it It didn't even come close to fitting him - he looked like some Dali-inspired version of a gay rapper.
I've got a new hat for him today and a card I'll put a dollar in. He grew up dirt poor - they were sharecroppers, basically, with no running water in their house and literally had dirt floors in part of the house; clothes patched and patched until they fell apart. So, in his dementia, money is still a thing to him. He has no idea what it means, just that it means something. I was gonna give him my bill I brought back from Nicaragua, but I can't find the damned thing. So, a George it is.
I'm sure, next time I go, Mr Garcia in 28L will be trying to buy the pretty young nurse with it.

Did gift exchange with Chicago Girl last night because I have my daughter tonight and then we are going to Maine.
We have only been dating for 3-4 months and I wasn't even sure if we were doing gifts until we talked it on Saturday, so I had played it somewhat safe with the gifts I got for her just in case she didn't have anything for me.
Of course, she's awesome so she got me some great stuff. A couple highlights: we both got each other beer (thanks for the assist on that one Thorn, it was a big hit) and she also got me some new pajama pants to offset the ones she has commandeered when she stays over.
