GM's thread about nothing (39 Viewers)

Followers of Jebu, serious question:

Why not just study at home? Like skip church, but just read the Bible yourselfs at home. Or Bible groups?

Also, how does one explain God kicking the shit out of everyone in the Old Testament to kids? Will answer yours.
a pretty standard Christian way to deal with that question - http://www.gotquestions.org/Old-Testament-violence.html
Oy vey
He asked. Last thing I want this thread to turn into is bickering about religion, so let's just leave it there.
 Nobody is bickering.

1. I can't speak for everyone, but I do all that stuff too.

2. Rather than type it in my own words, I'll just point you here, if you'd like a pretty standard Christian way to deal with that question - http://www.gotquestions.org/Old-Testament-violence.html

I did go to a different church this morning for my nephew's baby dedication, and it was absolutely horrible though. I was really happy I had to leave early for work. So I can see why you'd wonder.
I can't imagine laying that justification on one of my kids. Some Canaanites are bad and don't recognize God as the one and only, and they all get wiped out, kids and all? Some people in group X are bad, the entire group gets punished? And they're punished for not recognizing God? My kid already has a lot of non-Christian (Jewish, Hindu, non-believer, etc.) friends. And putting Canaan (and James Caan) aside for a second, the Big Flood? Numbers 11? etc?

Not to mention that women get a pretty short stick. As well as the gays.

Of course, there are good lessons in the Bible for children. But I don't think there's anything in there that can't be taught without the Bible, no? Being good to one's neighbor, not stealing, killing (ha), etc.

The medical field has made huge advancements in detection and treatment since the days of her mom, so regardless of the diagnosis, don't give up hope. Thoprawishes and looking forward to a good report back

Tpwgbrn. Chin up, bub.

I noticed the religious discussion breaking out so I sent a PM to Tim to join us. That should help get it situated. You're Welcone.

So, we were on the plane back from corn field hell, and my daughter was playing a word game or Where's My Water or something on the ipad, when my wife decided it would be a good idea to "help" her. This resulted in the following exchange:

Wife: "Why is it that when I help you it's a problem, but when daddy helps you it's fun?"

Daughter: "Because daddy's usually right."

Now, I've thought at various times in my life that I might swallow a tongue, but I never thought it would be my own. Despite my best efforts to choke off the laugh that immediately rose to the back of my throat, I was unsuccessful and started :lmao:

The look that was shot in my direction would have melted the faces of hundreds of nazis faster than that ##### arc managed it. I think she decided to punish me by not having sex with me, but the joke's on her 'cause I'm pretty sure she was going to do that anyway.

Gotta give huge props to Uruk too... he had every intention of covertly buying us all a shot and having us do a shot vid. I was texting him updates of who was here, how to identify us, where we were, etc. But then he fell asleep and we were gone before he woke up :lmao:

Still get   in my book. You're good people GBUH

Between what Mata did to me and being let down by the Ravens, I was worn the hell out. When I woke up and checked my texts, the group had already moved on.

TF - have you tried different services? We didn't go for 15+ years until we went to the modern service at the local methodist church. Coffee and donuts, craft table for the kids, guitar music and a 15 minute p ositive message for a sermon. We actually enoy going now. Ended up becoming members and everything.
No, b/c we really don't care about the religion aspect. We're just wrestling on how we introduce the concept of religion to then, especially. Also (and I should've put this in the original post), since we're Greek Orthodox; a big part of attending the church is interaciton with other Greeks (since it's the only church in the city) and having a sense of "Where you came from" and history and all that stuff. Plus, I feel indebted b/c a lot of my best friends to this day are from "church" growing up...even though 80% of us don't really give a crap about the religious aspect.

Oh. Well that is different. I decided a long time ago that if I didn't want to attend a service, then we just wouldn't go. We tried a bunch of different things before we found a place that worked for us. Our kids also go to preschool there, do Kids Night Out once a month there and we found all our babysitters from the church. Its a whole community thing now.

NFL teams have zero loyalty and tolerance for coaches these days. Only 1 team can win the super bowl every year and 12 out of 32 make the playoffs. Give the coaches some time to teach. The meme out today about the day after the regular season ending in the NFL being like the Godfather murder montages is spot on.

Speaking of the 'Cer, my niece finished her 30 days of radiation. She has a scan on 1/8 or thereabouts which will hopefully show she's in remission.

Keep your ##### crossed.
