GM's thread about nothing (32 Viewers)

Making chili tomorrow. Using my standard recipe, which is the best recipe ever, but using serrano peppers for the first time and dialing back on the cayenne. Nervous, but excited. Also strongly considering making it without beans, just to see what that's all about.
You know there's going to be beans in that chili.
Well that's rude.
I'm making chili tomorrow too. With three kinds of beans. These anti-bean fanatics will never stop me. Never!
I just want to see what all the fuss is about.

Post it, unless it has beans
1 lb. stew meat

1 lb. ground beef (any meat is fine, this is just what we always have, want to try chorizo sometime and/or pork sausage)

1 diced white onion

1 diced green bell pepper

1 diced poblano pepper

3 diced serrano peppers

6 cloves minced garlic

1 cup beef broth

1/2 cup chicken broth

2 can tomato sauce (8 oz. each)

3 T chili powder

1 T cumin

2 t oregano

1 t garlic powder

1 t onion powder

2 t smoked paprika

1 t coriander

1/4 t cayenne pepper

1 t salt

1/2 t black pepper

1/2 t white pepper

2 cans kidney beans (OPTIONAL?)

1/2 t ancho chili pepper

1/2 t chipotle chili powder

Brown meat with onions, garlic, and peppers

combine in crock pot with everything except beans, cook for 3-6 hours (longer the better)

add beans and increase heat for 30-60 minutes (if desired)

But then it wouldn't be a chili
Between beans, no beans, and skyline, skyline is the clear loser.

I celebrate the entire chili catalog. Naan probably goes well with a hearty beany chili.

I made Snails chili thrice...the final time without beans. It was perhaps my best chili to date. And I love beans.

Think I'll make some chili with the smoked turkey stock this weekend. That gumbo I made was astounding.

GM > Mr. krista and I did an impromptu "Wire character draft" on the way home from dinner this evening. A little disappointing with only two participants, especially when I could rule the draft by knowing that, for instance, he would want Bubs in the first round. You should fire this draft up (no trades, please).

I'm a little more excited about getting stood up for happy hour now

I'm sure Tim did this already.

Goodness Clemson has some pretty ferns.
Explains how they get knocked up so easily.
Shouldn't you be dumping money at the "guess what number I'm thinking of?" Table?
I have considerable financial interest in tonight's football. Following that while getting ready to go out for the evening. At my current rate, I will be selling my hair to a wig shop by Monday. :oldunsure:
God I hope you took the over in this Clemson game...

An auction for magic space hair might cover your losses and then some.

Congrats YSR!!!! Also, if I get laid tonight it's because of you.

Remember your autocorrect text with your boss when you said "keep me coming" instead of "keep em coming" well while exchanging some friendly borderline flirty texts with a co-worker, I purposely texted "keep me coming" and then quickly followed with "oops, don't get excited, was supposed to be keep 'em coming, damn autocorrect" She replied "lol, whoa for a second I thought you were challenging me" From there many flirty texts filled with sexual innuendo (sp?) were exchanged and we might be meeting up for a drink or 2 tonight.

So here's to you YSR, the GMTAN's pregnant/wine drinking/wingman. I love you.

Some of you need to fill out rosters in my playoff pool....anybody still stuck?
 no idea... Never got at lineup verification email from the site, and it's only sparingly loading half the first page right now. Neat.
I never have the problems slow loading...you do know you played magic football on this very website for like 10 years, right? It shouldn't be this foreign to you. :oldunsure:
Not my issue, the site just isn't working through our corporate filter, will try again from home.

String is way too high IMO.

And no Bunny Colvin is a damn shame.
McNulty and Kima also too high IMO. Also, in addition to Bunny being a huge omission, no Carver or Cutty?

We did forget Clay Davis in our impromptu draft. Awesome character. No Carcetti?

ETA: WAIT, NO FRANK SOBOTKA? I know only one season...

I like all those characters. Bunny is actually a personal favorite of mine. I like Carver too.

It's a deep draft, guys. You can even start a Barksdale in your flex spot.

Heading up to hospital. My grandfather (not the one I ratted on about his pills, but my stepmom's dad) was just admitted to CCU. They found a brain tumor during a scan this evening.

I'm starting to feel like SLB.

This is now the fifth Christmas in a row we have had a family medical issue or death in the family. #### this holiday.
So a little update here.

Tests were run. Then transferred to another hospital and more tests were run. Results showed a large brain tumor and a large tumor in his lungs, connected in some way. The doctors' diagnosis was, "We will try one treatment of radiation, if it works, we will try another, if not, you need to say goodbye to your friends." Then they talked about the need for three weeks of rehab, before they can do the treatment. I spend several evenings with him as we discuss life, death, experiences, chances of survival, God, being a burden, etc. He hates the fact that nurses are having to wipe his ### and he's leaving streaks on his sheets.

Last night, he decides to refuse treatment. No rehab, no radiation, no surgery, no cutting. He is of sound mind right now, and wants to go out that way. Three to six months where he can clearly communicate with friends and family beats two to three years (maybe) of being a burden on someone as he can barely know what's going on. His daughter had cancer for most of her 30 years on Earth and he knows first hand how bad the "life" can be after attacking the cancer.

I've never been more proud of him, and I've been proud of his often. To basically tell cancer "#### You" and look at your life and be happy with it, and go out on your terms is pretty cool. Not everyone has the balls to do that. He had me cracking up when he said, "your Mom wants me to get well and spend my money going on a trip. But I don't want to go anywhere! I've been everywhere I want to go.......twice."
Pretty cool he's going out on his terms. And pretty awesome of you to spend so much time with him.
