GM's thread about nothing (51 Viewers)

I lived in Admiral Junction. Could walk to Alki and/or a small number of good bars and restaurants. But, yeah, I think you'd probably prefer to be up North in Ballard or Fremont or something.
Sounds like what I'd imagined. Definitely a few good places but we really want the selection of Ballard, Fremont, Capitol Hill, etc., not just for our own variety but because it would give Mr. krista a broader range of potential work opportunities close to home.

By the way, Drifter, if you know/hear of anyone looking to rent a house to a nice, half-quiet, half-extraordinarily tidy and meticulous, couple with cats, let me know!
From a Mr Krista standpoint, Fremont makes a lot of sense as although, contrary to its residents' beliefs, while not the center of the universe, it is pretty much the center of the city from an accessibility standpoint.

I know you can find a nice rental house in the 3k range. We're in the 2k range and are in a good neighborhood with a decent sized house. 50% on top of that should be acceptable Krista levels.
Believe me, I've been looking. It wouldn't surprise anyone, I'm sure, to know I've looked at thousands of listings. Aren't you in the 'burbs? (I'm just making an assumption there, based on the kids--sorry if wrong.) City core and even Ballard which is a little father from the center are just crazy expensive.
I'm probably way behind here, but Drifter is in West Seattle. NOT THE F'N BURBS. :)

West Seattle is pretty awesome, IMO.
East St Louis awesome?

Very interesting/potentially depressing. A key takeaway: "His advice for those who can afford it: “You’re a little bit late, but if you want to buy a home, don’t wait.”"
I'd think this depends on whether you're viewing this as a housing expense or an investment (or both). If you're looking for something to invest in, then sure, maybe it's not ideal timing. But even if you only live there 1-2 years, you're looking at dropping $50-$100k renting. Even if you're approaching 7 figures for a home purchase, that gives you a 10% cushion to the downside before you're losing money vs. simply enduring a potential lack of continued appreciation. That excludes realtor fees if you would flip it quickly and R-E taxes, which could be impactful, but at the rental rates you're willing to pay, it's not going to take long for it to be worth it to you to buy regardless of all but exceptionally bad market conditions.

Just my $.02. Er, um, $50,000. Preferrably in the form of a cashier's check. TIA.

Terrible advice. No thanks!

It was actually great advice, but I don't want to owe $50K for it.

I agree with Mr. Snrub.

The weird guy we hire three months ago had a birthday yesterday and still hasn't shown up for work. He also failed to call in. Shall be interesting to see how my management colleagues choose to deal with him.
This happened to me the day after my 29th birthday. Turns out I was in jail for a DUI.
Well, one of two things has happened. Either he's so drunk/hungover that he didn't bother to wake up and call in "sick." Or he's so drunk/hungover that he's in jail and didn't bother to call in "sick." In my more self-righteous days he would have already lost his job. Now, I'm open to seeing what the deal is. However, 27 year olds who spent two years in the army should probably be past the "I'm getting so ####ed up on my birthday that I'm going to miss work!" stage, don't you think?

As it is, and since he doesn't directly work for me, my opinion doesn't much matter. If my colleague does ask how I would handle the situation I will offer that I don't think he's a good fit for the organization and this is our opportunity to relieve him of his position.
So rich.

His mother called in for him saying he was "sick."

I put $20 of gas in at lunch time. Feeling pretty good about that.

Excellent

When will I learn that I'm woefully inept at fixing things? And even if I take the right steps, there's always some sort of booby trap waiting for me while I'm doing it?

As many of you know, I've got this very good friend in the neighborhood that is 25 years older than me and lost his wife to kidney cancer a year or so ago and we get really drunk together some nights and he cries about it. We did that tonight. The moral of the story is that you should hug your loved ones because you never know how things are going to turn out.

And we also talk about we fell in love with strong-willed women. So, K4, : :bye: :
You're a good man Bentley

Just processed an order online with Fedex. Their website took my money ($136) and never gave me the offer to print the label. I have now been shuffled around FEDEX customer service for twenty minutes to learn that not only can they not reprint the label, they can't refund my money. I am supposed to call my credit card issuer and contest the charge.

As I have said for years, Fedex and UPS are only able to stay in business by being marginally better than the US Postal service.

I just spent 8 minutes coming up with dirty Emoji scenes in a text conversation with a coworker (not my male boss). I'm 12 years old, apparently.

I'm going over a powerpoint from a Canadian company called AgriPharm. This is too good not to share. Can I email this PDF to somebody who can make it available via Google Docs or some such? You gotta see the management team of this thing.... :lmao:

I went last night, actually. Was a blast. No getting hammered on the fast, but I will imbibe tonight to make up for it. :fancyhandshake:
So glad I married a woman that thinks "sophistication" is drinking a bottle of wine that costs more than $12.

I married a woman who used to play in the symphony (Bangkok). Oddly, we hadn't gone the first 3.5 years of our marriage, and we've gone twice in the last month.

I assume some of you have listened to or read enough Bill Simmons to know one of "his" theories that there can only be one type of actor at a time having a certain career. The main example he gives is Kevin Costner taking Mark Harmon's career. That Harmon was off and running doing his thing and then when Costner came along, he basically took all the roles that Mark Harmon was destined to have. Anyway, as I listen to Josh Lucas do Home Depot commercials on Spotify it makes me think that Bradley Cooper has stolen his career. I can picture Lucas in everything Cooper has done, from Hangover to Place Beyond the Pines. But instead he is doing radio commercials.

Thanks for reading.
You bet.

See, this is part of what I can't get into about the South.* People get all dressed up for stuff like going to a good restaurant or to the symphony. Nobody under Tanner's age did this in Boston, NY or Chicago. I just don't get it but have seen this phenomenon in Memphis and Atlanta, too.

*Don't give me any "Texas is not the South" nonsense.

Would love to have the info if so. One of our top neighborhood choices.
