Not the best day. I was sick most of the night, didn't get a wink of sleep, but had to be at the courthouse by 9 a.m. to get sworn in. I dragged myself down there, not really sure where I was going because no one goes to downtown Atlanta (had not previously been in what they call downtown here), and wonder of wonders found an on-street parking space less than a block away. Yay!
I was sworn in with another person who was dressed to the nines; I was in a sweater and jeans. People get dressed up for this? I felt like a loser, especially because it turned out the other person knew several people in the courtroom who attested to her fitness to practice law in the Great State of Georgia. I was alone and underdressed. Anyway, had to wait through a whole bunch of criminal status stuff and was reminded how much I HATE being in a courtroom. I don't know how you people do it. Finally the judge got to us and for the first time in a swearing in, I got to hear someone lecture about how to use my "faith" as part of my law practice. God bless the South.
When I left to come home I found...nothing. No car. Thought it must have been stolen but no, it turns out that the parking spot was a tow zone despite not having any sign indicating such and despite the fact that the entire block had cars parked on it, including one that was now in the spot where my car had been. I walked all around (mostly trying to figure out how the hell to get home) and the closest no-parking sign I saw was a block away.
Had to wander around to find a MARTA station and take it home, then walk home from there on still-very-icy sidewalks. Also was wearing brand-new shoes that rubbed a huge blister on my right foot. :( To Mr. krista's credit, he then dealt with getting down to where to pay the fine, then to the tow yard, and got the car back. Best Valentine's Day present he could have gotten me.
I can now practice law in Georgia, though, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.
