GM's thread about nothing (58 Viewers)

My senior partner just tried to explain to me that he wants me to "digitally enhance" a satellite photograph, like they do on TV all the time.

He thinks my statement that there's no such thing is an April Fool's joke. He's getting quite angry.
Add a sunglasses gif to it.

I take that back - add boobs to it.

CTO is across the hall from me. Usually works offsite mornings at the co-lo where our gear is or from home monitoring the Support center remotely. Comes in around lunchtime for CEO face-time and to manage Operations.

Everyday he comes in and starts blasting his tunes. The only people in this wing of the office are the CEO and a couple VPs. For some reason they don't say anything - maybe the sound just carries more to my office.

I don't want to be a richard but WTF I'm either in heavy concentration mode or on a call. It's not like we're working on a loading dock (no disrespect to any union members).

What's the shark move? I mean, yeah, just confront him and ask nicely, but JFC really? Like it's not common sense to keep your music low enough so as to not disturb others?

ETA: amiright? Is this just a boomer/millennial thing?
What's he playing?

Once I explained clearly that it's not an actual thing that can be done:

"What else has tv been lying to me about?" while shaking his head.

Typically Satriani. He has an obsession with Satch you usually associate with the Grateful Dead or Phish.

He also plays guitar and sent me all his audio only YouTube recordings. Not. Very. Good.

Oh lord.

I think the new superintendent at my wife's school is trying to see how many people he can make hate him.

His latest proposal is to force all the teachers into teaching different grade levels to prevent complacency.

Nevermind that most of them have spent thousands of dollars on grade specific materials, thousands of hours crafting and refining curriculum and lesson plans and accepted their positions because they were the grade levels they most wanted to teach.

That sucks. This is a public school?

My kids were off for spring break last week. This week? They have two days off for conferences. When I grow up, I want to be a kid in the Oregon Public School system.

Yeah, public school.

I have a feeling that there is a coming groundswell of anger coming the school board's way from both the teachers and parents. My guess is there will be a large turnover of the board at this rate in the next election.

I just can't imagine the amount of chaos that something like that would create. It's completely insane. If I found out they were contemplating that at my daughter's school I would be at the next board meeting raising holy hell.

Support him vehemently, but add that you're in favor of superintendants being reassigned to janitorial duties to keep themselves sharp.

What's hilarious is he's just 4 years from retirement but his previous district chose not to renew his contract. But the genius school board here not only hired him, but agreed to give him a 4 year contract instead of the normal 3.

I can understand why he would want and request that, but have no idea why the board would have accepted it.

Outlook is playing some sort of April Fool's joke on me by popping up every 5 minutes with a message saying that the IMAP server has been disconnected. Plus I just sent a flyer out to 150 people that somehow didn't save in Excel, which had the wrong pricing on it, even though it was correctly saved to my desktop.

Funny stuff Microsoft!!

Kellen had a check-up this morning at 7:10am, so we left the house early, slogged through the rainy traffic and got to the doctor on time. We're very fortunate in that all of our kids have been incredibly healthy so he hasn't been to his doctor in quite some time. The doctor ran through all the normal stuff...eyes, ears, reflexes, turn your head and cough. They drew blood to check his cholesterol which I was a little surprised by, but it runs in our family, so I was good with it. What I was more surprised by was the vaccinations he received today. One was a booster for Tetnas (sp?) and the other was a vaccination for HPV....you know, the disease that affects 98% of sexually active tickle monsters who like to stick their junk in diseased cavities. Gay or not, I figured what the hell...let's protect this kid's cervix.

So he got the shots, got the blood drawn and when it was all over, I patted him on the head and told him the great news - since it was still early, he would be on time for school! His reaction was priceless. Then I told him we should go out to breakfast and be late for school and his face lit up like a Vegas casino. Went to one of my favorite breakfast spots downtown, put our phones away and had a nice, leisurely breakfast. He was still only a few minutes late to school, but it was good getting a 1-on-1 with him.

Then I told his mom and step-mom how it went in an email. I didn't know it, but my ex-wife has turned into a Jenny McCarthy disciple and was furious at me for permitting the HPV vaccine. I even got an ALL CAPS EMAIL RESPONSE!!!!1111 I honestly had no idea she had any reservations about this and apologized for not consulting her, but damn....this vaccine is supposed to cut down on teh sex diseases. Not sure why she'd be against that, but apparently, the tin-foil hat is strong in this one.

Oof. Sorry to hear about this, GB.

I would override the flaghoople on anything based on reasoning borrowed from the dark ages and compromises the safety and health of the kid.
