GM's thread about nothing (39 Viewers)

Hey, did you know that some dishwashers are delivered with a junction box for direct wiring but no power cord that you can just plug in?

Yeah, me neither :wall: Had to special-order it (after waiting 2 weeks for the ####ing dishwasher which also wasn't in-stock locally), and either wait 2 more weks, or pay twice what I would have if I'd known to order it with the DW to get it in 3 days. :hot:
I may be misunderstanding you, but if all you need is a pigtail, you should be able to get one at any hardware store for a couple of bucks.
True, I could have done that, cut the junction box off the supplied power cord (with special-shaped end that plugs into the DW itself) and spliced them together. But then I'd have this nasty bulky heavily taped blob because I suck as an electrician. Granted it would be under the sink. I guess I'd rather not go self-wired when there's water nearby.

ETA - dammit, now I'm pissed at myself for not just getting something like this, which I've used to repair extension cords before. In my defense, I was dealing with some intestinal unpleasantness over the weekend and was probably not fully focused.
TMI :X

No, you're right (see edited post). The DW has a special receptacle for one end of the cord (similar to removable power cords for electronics), but the cord comes in two varieties. One has a junction box on the other end for hard-wiring, and the other has a 3-prong wall plug. My old DW had a built in cord with a 3-prong and I just assumed that's what I'd get on the new one.
I just put a new one in and it required a separate cord. I took it off the old one.If you just cut the cord off your old one and strip back 1/2" of the insulation you'd have the same thing that you're going to go buy. The junction box where you attach your bare wires is generally inside a metal housing on the opposite side of your supply line so I don't see a huge risk of shock unless you have a foot of water in your kitchen.

Never mind, I am an idiot and see that you need a special plug for the dishwasher end. That's pretty ####ty of them require a proprietary plug but not include it. Who's the dishwasher made by, Apple?

Not wading into that thread, but I agree with JoeT about bicyclists.
Cliff's notes?
JoeT thinks those dudes who look like they're in the Tour doo France and ride their bikes alongside the road are endangering themselves and creating a safety hazard.

Didn't get past the OP.
Gotcha - I didn't even get that far.

Would agree that there are some dopes, especially in the city during rush hour, that suck.
I'm Fuller behind Joe T & you guys on this too. Almost all the guys around here are #####. Dude, we get it guy, you work out.

It would be like me dressing like Hal for my morning walk.

Old DW got hauled away by the delivery guys. Not sure if the connector to the dishwasher was the same.

In any case, the new store-bought power cord arrived yesterday and I'm going to hook everything up tonight.

The ones in the forested/rural woods are the worst. Single-lane, there's barely enough room for cars passing each other, and you're going to ride two feet into the lane? #### you.

why are people starting new threads to complain about Caruso shtick? is this going on in a lot of other threads? any greatest hits that I'm missing out if I don't venture outside here too much?

I am biking to work tomorrow. I will be wearing long sweat pants (the kind that go 'whoosh whoosh' when you walk) and perhaps a sweat shirt as it is chilly. I don't own spandex. I can only imagine how awful that would make me look. I do wear a helmet, though lets be honest....there's really not much in there to protect. 60% of my commute home will be on paved trails to avoid all cars. The rest of the way will have bike lanes or I'll be on neighborhood roads with plenty of room and a speed limit of 25. I will also be high as a billy goat.

I love riding the bike, but I also used to loath the bike riding community and get where the bike hate comes from. I live in Portland....believe me, we have plenty of 'me firsters' riding bikes around here (Uni's Portlandia clip was all too true here). However, the city has poured a ton of dough into infrastructure to support the bike riders and outside of the militant bike messengers who smell like camel crap, most of the bike riders here adhere to the bike lanes, trails or use common sense.

Can't we all just get along?

I've only seen the complaints in the "woman falls down a well during sex" thread where a lot of Caruso shtick happened

Totally agree that having to go around bikers on a busy road is a pain in the ### sometimes. But good lord some of the posters in that thread are insane. My favorite was the dude whose odd hypothetical involved either crashing into another car or into a pack of 10 cyclists. He'd purposely hit the bikers and then sue to get the paint on his truck fixed or somesuch. Seemed like a nice fella.

I've considered trying to do a legit CSI ASCII for every thread on page 1 and posting them simultaneously. Would probably have to retire from the internet if I pulled it off.

I need recos for a tv show to watch. I often don't have the attention span to sit through a whole movie, but somehow can plow through catching up on a tv show. There are a ton of shows I haven't seen, but some that I have watched and liked include:

The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, True Detective, Hannibal, Mad Men, Archer, Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Wilfred, Parks & Rec when it wasn't trying quite so hard, Fringe, Sherlock, Lost, House early on, Scrubs early on, House of Cards...

there are probably a couple others over the past 10 years, but that's pretty comprehensive. Oh, I watched a little bit of Six Feet Under but moved early in and didn't have HBO access. I reserve the right to say "oh yeah, I did see that one" to any replies

TIA

Speaking of the Tour de France, I never understood why some people make a big deal of pronouncing "France" in a very American tone, rather than the Frenchy way of saying it "Fraaahnce" but these same people have no problem using the French word "de".

Boardwalk and GoT are great recommendations. Dexter sucks though.

You might enjoy Workaholics. I find it hilarious but it's pretty much just low-brow stoner humor.

Forgot about workaholics... Loved that show. So good for what it is...doesn't try to be more.

I got the impression that GoT was a little on the fantasy/LoTR side of things... not sure if I would get into that or not.

Have no clue what Boardwalk Empire is about.

I'll just assume it was a typo and you didn't purposely leave GOLDEN GIRLS off the list of shows that you liked.

I don't dork out over it, but literally everyone watches it and there's a lot of medieval ### and ####### in there.

orphan black if you haven't seen it. Only one season so far, season 2 starts in 2 or so weeks

Give GoT a shot. Pretty sure you'll like it. My dad would never watch it because he's not into the whole fantasy/sci-fi type stuff, but I finally convinced him and he's really enjoying it. Show is more about the characters and not super heavy on the fantasy stuff.

Looks like shows to consider so far are: GoT, Boardwalk Empire, Orphan Black, Coupling

I've not gotten any kind of "we need to talk about Homer" text, so it seems SLB's dinner with Romo is going swimmingly.
