Have any of you ever signed up for Global Entry at airports?

(God, I can only imagine what this bunch will do with that question)

When we got back to Dulles Saturday night, there were about 1,000 people trying to get through Immigration and they had 6 out of like 40 ####### booths open. Then 2 went on break! I'm not the world's most patient person when it comes to standing in line but, if they actually had a lot of booths open, I'm ok with it taking some time. As it was, I was ready to turn that place into a car wash (70s commercial ad reference only Tanner may get). It's not like the crowd is a surprise.

Anyway, I travel enough to maybe make Global Entry worth it - $100 for 5 years. You go through the same booth as the flight staff. But I wonder if there are downsides.....
I tried but was denied. :oldunsure: It's definitely worth it if you can get approved.
Whoa. YOU got denied?

Mata was talking to some coworkers about it and one, who is extremely high security, said she (the coworker) couldn't do it because the site is owned by a non-American company and you have to give them too much info. But the web site has a .gov address so I'm assuming overt approval from the Feds. Mata's got a different type of clearance and she would be ok - she thinks; she is gonna talk to her boss tomorrow. $20/year seems ridiculously low for the convenience but I'm not the most stingy guy when it comes to using the internet to process personal information so maybe I'm missing something.
Well worth it. I have a friend (who's apparently a more upstanding citizen than I) who loves it more than his wife, I think. Just be aware--and I'm not talking about why both Mr. krista and I got denied, of course--that if you have ever been arrested for anything, whether or not convicted, you will be denied, so save your money.
Just as an entirely random example - two DUIs in 3 months in 1983 a cause for denial?

Also meant to ask - did the earthquake do any damage in Granada?
Entirely hypothetically, that person would be denied.

No damage that I've heard about, but people definitely felt it.
Hypothetical "crap!!!" over here. Mata's on the case, though, so we'll see.

Glad there was no damage at Paloma or anywhere else in town. Feel bad for those affected, though.

Pretty sure they won't even let you into Canada on the slow line with those, let alone give you the quick line to anywhere pass.

Man, I've driven past this church hundreds of times over the years have have just watched decay. Looks like it's finally over. I hate seeing beautiful structures like this end up in a pile of rubble. :(

Any of you travelers enrolled in the tsa pre-check? How hard is that to do?
I didn't enroll but just got it automatically. I don't know why? Mr. krista didn't get it though and he was just "gold" on Delta so maybe it was Delta status-related? Anyway, it's a huge, huge help at many airports. Not so much in Seattle where the precheck lane just feeds into another one with a bunch of regular travelers, which means no one knows what they're doing.

I'm sorry for all your troubles being thrown in with the proletariat ;)

Rubbing elbows with the rabble? My word!

I can barely get out of my neighborhood because of all the traffic at the bus stop. You see, when it gets cold poor little junior might get uncomfortable waiting for the bus. So all the Moms (capital M intended) drive the kid to the bus stop and the kids wait in the car until the bus arrives. Which causes a massive traffic jam which all the Moms are oblivious to because they are too busy face booking on their iPhones.

Oh yeah, it's 44 degrees outside.

Now that you mention it I think the same thing happened to my brother.
Really? From the tsa site, you have to go get fingerprinted and there's a background check.
 I guess there must be some program where you can sign up, but for most people it just comes automatically. I didn't have to do any of that.

As to whether it's worth it, I really think it depends upon the airport you're flying out of. In Seattle I wouldn't bother, and in Memphis about 2/3 of the time they didn't have anyone manning the precheck lane so it was useless. In Atlanta, though, absolutely worth it. I'd beat Mr. krista through the lines by 30-45 minutes, and he was going through the priority lines.

My wife got pre check one time on her boarding pass out of the blue. She booked our flights and when we check in she has pre check approval and my daughter and I did not. No idea how that happened

They do this here too. But 'too cold' is in the teens, not 40+ you Texas ####ays.

I spent all day Sunday working in the yard. Started with an 8 am trip to get shrubs and ended just before dark as I attempted to get the last azalea bush planted (I was thwarted by a nasty root system that even YSR + reciprocating saw yesterday morning couldn't tackle). It was a really long day, made longer by the fact that I cannot locate our spade-tipped shovel and so all holes (2 forsythia, 10 3G azaleas) had to be dug with a post hole digger. My upper body strength is akin to Fuller's lower body strength, so I was exhausted by day's end, but also so very proud of my work and the result.

All of this is to lead to a complaint that on my way to SC yesterday I heard on the radio that it's going to freeze tonight, which may lead to my beautiful plants' demise. Thanks, Obama.

I'm actually getting money back in taxes this year. I did so by making money on a house I sold that had been a rental unit.

I don't understand this system.

"What are those #######s doing on the porch?"

"Those aren't #######s. It's pronounced azaleas."

Anyway, that's awfully impressive. I hope your plants survive. Can you have someone go cover them?

I've gotten in touch with my father-in-law who said he would go by there and do so. He's also kind of lazy and depressed and sleeps until 2:00 most days, so there have been lots of instances in the past when he just "couldn't get it together" to do something he's told us he'll do. So I'd say it's about a 50/50 shot. If they die, I'll just have Romo re-do it all when he gets home in (hopefully) 3 weeks.
