GM's thread about nothing (8 Viewers)

So I fell asleep on the couch and missed the ending of that hockey thing. sumbitsh.
Bet you wouldn't have that problem if you lived in Seattle!
You hiring? Need a creative-ish guy with a drinking problem?
You could go cut down Krista's tree and stay there for the balance of the series. How are you at tree climbing?

Oddly enough I went to the IHG website today to change my email address and decided to see what I could get for my points there. The first item that came up for 45,000 points was the Worx All-In-One Blower/Vac/Mulcher, which I now have coming to me for free. :bowtie:

I had a large poplar tree that was paired up with my neighbor's tree, separated by our fence. His tree caught the genital warts and started to die, so he knew he had to cut it down. He told me that once his tree was cut down, mine would start to die as they pair up for life or some gay stuff. And that's exactly what happened...his was cut down and a year later, mine started to die, which sucked because I loved the way this tree turned colors in the fall. Just a bright, beautiful gold that you could see from many spots in the neighborhood.

Anyhow, because there were power lines running through the trees, we were able to have them cut down for free by the power company. That's the good news. The bad news is they leave the entire thing in your yard for you to deal with and man...that's a pain! I watched my neighbor spend two weeks with a chain saw cutting his tree into smaller pieces and then loading the wood into a dumpster he rented from the city. I wanted no part of that, so I hired a nice Latino crew to haul mine away for $500. Best $500 I ever spent.

Anyhow, if there's a power line anywhere near your tree, call the power company and inquire about their services to take it down. Worth a shot. I've had to remove a pine tree too and it's not a fun job. However, I have firewood for the next decade.

I really don't want the trees removed. They are pretty; the needles and leaves all over the place are not, though. I just looked at the big one again and am a bit worried about some of the branches vis a vis the neighbor's greenhouse. Am I responsible if they snap off and take out the neighbor's structures? (Given the way the neighbor keeps their house, this might be an improvement.)

did you just ask a legal question?

by the way, the answer is yes

I have a pretty big pine tree. ;)

Anyway, the needles are a pain but they really are easily raked. Where gloves when you pick them up though, pokey.

We currently have a crows nest at the top of it. Pretty cool. Loud at times though.

Yes, I asked a legal question. Why? Thanks for the info.

I just delivered a branding presentation for the 14th time in the last six weeks. I'm so tired of it. I've even grown to hate my own jokes. Have to do it twice more in May and then I think I'm done.

In Washington as a property owner you're liable for damage from your tree if you had actual or constructive knowledge of a dangerous condition. That includes diseased trees, but can also include limbs overhanging other people's structures or property.

OK, very good to know. Thanks.

Anyone know a good arborist? ETA: Found one!

What type of iron do you recommend?
I've used that "witty" angle several times.

Poplar burns hot and fast but isn't all that aromatic in my experience. Good for getting a fire hot fast though.
Yep. Trashy, knotty, stringy wood burns the longest. #### like locust - the best burning wood Thropa ever invented - is what you want in a wood stove. It's also what you want in a fireplace, though it doesn't burn as pretty as elegant garbage like oak or poplar

Let hope our Blackhawks can wrap this up before I run out of Busch Lights
I have activated my new Blackhawks hoodie (all prior hoodies were lost in the Great Move of Aught 13), so I feel good about it.

I am trying to generate hatred for the Blues, but it's feeble. I'd still give a billion dollars to see all the Red Wings die in a fire, and I hope the Canucks are mowed down by a herpes bus, but if god doesn't exist and the Blackhawks lose this series, I wouldn't be upset if the Blues won it all.
We appreciate your support.

You could have sold that for firewood.
What is this, the Great Depression? Next you'll be advising me to return my bottles and cans for the nickel back or to stop using premium gas in my mower.
Actually, I am going to tell you to stop using premium gas in your mower.

I have a brand new single license of MS Office Professional 2013 that I'd be glad to sell at a "substantial" discount to anyone in here needing a copy. It's $400 at Amazon. If anyone is interested let me know and we can work something out.
:hey:
Damn. Just sold it for $100 to a guy on Craig's.

:lmao: I'm not sure I even have the picture anymore.

Work is really slow right now, so I'm thinking I can sneak in a long hike tomorrow morning. 'ninja/Drifter/roverfish/others, any suggestions on a moderate hike we could do? I'm thinking 2000-3000 elevation gain, length doesn't matter (that's what she said). I'm running out of "new" options close by as we've done many of the usual suspects, but I don't want to do Mount Si until next week.

ETA: Want to do one tomorrow, one Saturday and one Sunday, which is why I'm getting desperate for new ideas. Sat/Sun I don't mind driving a bit to get there, but tomorrow am hoping to stay within an hour or so.

Miss out on a Barry Larkin bobblehead?
I've felt on the verge of a heart attack for about 3 weeks.

Wife had a pretty bad case of bronchitis for a few weeks, and going right out of that into her bad part of her menstrual cycle that makes her headaches worse, and I have been doing everything around here. I am sure there are single parents out there who have to deal with this day in day out, but on top of my job and travel, and all the stress around the house when my wife is not feeling good, I am just having trouble coping.

Plus she is missing a lot, and things just seem to be getting worse, and it is breaking my heart. I am doing everything I can to help her emotionally, but she is at a point that it seems she doesn't want to help herself.

So it's not a bobblehead problem? Dodged a bullet there, gb.

I love you.

Really glad your cat came back, YSR.

I understand on the road trip. I was kind of surprised to hear you were doing it at all but after your new landscaping business, I figured wtf do I know.

Dylan had his first baseball game of the year tonight. They have a pitching machine but the rest of the rules are pretty close in that three strikes and your out with a maximum of five pitches. They can advance as many bases as they like too instead of only one base. Three outs and they switch too instead of every kid batting every inning which is really cool.

He went 5-5 and they won 11-2. There was even a play at the plate where he slid around the tag, popped up, looked at the ump for the safe call and got it. He clapped his hands once and and jogged off with a big smile on his face. He looked like a big leaguer which was super cool. This is the first time either of my boys has been on the winning side of an athletic contest. Pretty happy about this.
Very cool.
Thanks GB. Don't get me wrong, he jacked around like most of the other kids. Like I posted last week, he just looks the part. Very proud dad though.
Im nervous about how I'll take it if my boys suck or dont like sports when they get old enough.
With Cal, it was like a given. I'm not "that guy" either. I think the proof is there in that I didn't make him play sports because he hated it so much. I was certainly told by every male member of my family how they were sure he was going to be great at sports almost as soon as he was born though. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed. Cal's happiness of course means more to me than some stupid kids sports game.

In a completely unrelated note, Dylan is my favorite son.
:lmao: :lmao:

Cooper is a pretty good athlete who plays up a year on football and soccer teams and was the best player on his basketball team by a mile. He's playing baseball and volunteered for catcher, which is not very glamorous, but it's a noticeable difference when he's not back there blocking balls and doing what catchers are supposed to do...CATCH. Kid just hustles hard and loves to play sports.

Meanwhile, the K-man has settled in with soccer and swimming and that's it and that's totally fine with us. I had him play baseball for one year with the simple logic that he didn't want to be the kid in college who couldn't catch a baseball with a glove. He actually wasn't too bad and liked it, but not enough to play through the grind of spring baseball in Oregon, which is a long long season with many games played in cold rain. His soccer team is purely for fun and I hope we can keep this current team together. Great kids and many of them dipped their toes in Classic/Select soccer in the past but are back now. Turns out many kids would rather enjoy themselves and play for fun than be pressured into winning games against kids who eat, breathe and live soccer all the time.

I once asked Kellen if he wanted to play football and he just laughed at me. :bag:

Totally here you about the catching thing. Really glad Cal decided to join D and myself in a toss a couple of weekends ago for that reason.

Shredder started real guitar lessons, you know with somebody that can instruct and not a computer program, and really enjoyed it. I heard. I just got home from work. Cal starts keyboards/piano next week. He took some in the first grade at school (before they kicked his ### out) and caught on pretty fast. I figure they should have something that they can use their whole lives. Plus chicks love dudes that can play a cool instrument. I'm doing them the biggest solid and they don't realize it yet.

ETA

I mean that Tommy Lee guy seemed to do pretty well with the ladies and of course Elton John didn't do so bad himself.
