[General Malaise]

My theory?

Roverfish drives out to East Bumblefark, Washington with all the good intentions of relaxing, soaking in the sun and enjoying the great outdoors. As he is wont to do, he imbibed in various adult beverages throughout the weekend, realized that his supply was running low and ventured into the neighboring town for reinforcements. While shopping for supplies, a local townie gave him the stink eye and invaded his personal space. Never one to back down, Fish takes him outside, engages in some heavy pushing and is arrested by the town sheriff, who also happened to be the guy he was fighting. Sheriff books him on public intoxication, assault, battery, tax evasion and littering.

I just purchased a tent. The closest to "camping" I've done as an adult was hiking the Milford Track in New Zealand, where I stayed in lodges in which the electricity was turned off at 10 p.m. But I just purchased a tent.

Backpacking or car camping?

When car camping always get a size at least 1-2 people larger than what you intend to house. When backpacking go with the the rated size or +1 max if you are willing to split the load between you.

I got a three-person.

REI half or quarter dome? They love to push those at REI.

Tents are one of those things that you can buy cheap crappy ones, cheap solid ones or uber expensive. The advantages of uber expensive over cheap solid is usually in weight.

The biggest thing for camping here in the PNW is going to be a good size vestibule for gear or for shedding muddy boots, etc before getting in the tent.

Can't believe I missed jail chat.

My first and only time in the clink coincided with Portland's annual Rose Festival, which brings in all walks of life to our fair city including but not limited to sailors, women looking for sailors and carnies. Yes, carnies. As far as the eye can see. Apparently these carnies like a nip of the firewater and when day turns to night, carnies like to mix it up with the locals.

Say folks, you know what does not make for a fun Friday evening? Sharing a coat-closet sized holding cell with drunk and disorderly carnies. There are very few times in my life where I've looked around a crowded room and decided unequivocally that I was the smartest person in attendance. This was one of those times. The Simpsons does a parody of the carnies on their show and boy I'll tell you....it's spot on.

Another tip: since you can only make collect calls, memorize a phone number of someone other than your ex wife.

That does seem like a good tip. I'd love to hear the story of how you figured that out.

Not a very interesting story. My ex-wife used all of my allotted phone time yelling at me when I called her from jail.

Furthermore, most jails only allow collect calls to a landline. So memorize a few of those as well. It took me two hours to figure that out.

The downtown Atlanta jail allows non-collect calls to a cell phone, but only when you ask after being there for 15 hours, apparently.
