GM's thread about nothing (30 Viewers)

So my daughter needs to find transportation from the George Washington Bridge area to Saddlebrook NJ.

The only thing she can find is a bus that takes 2 hours?

Anyone live near those areas that can help us out?
From GWB? No good mass transit nearby, call Carmel 212-666-6666).

If she can get an A train down to Port Authority, 160 bus takes 30-35 minutes.

Google maps select mass transit option.
Thanks for the help GB.

And just as I typed that, he won!!! :pickle:
Awesome. He can wear that bracelet for the rest of his life and earn instant cred the moment he sits at the table.

Very cool

I know a girl that's married to a guy that's friends with the guy who just won the WSOP PL OH event
:lmao: :lmao:

I'm super excited. The other guys make fun of him because he's such a sweet guy that he always adds "please" at the end when they're playing: "raise, please", "check, please". Sometimes nice guys finish first!
Your [husband's] description of him sitting down for his first ever live poker hand was :lmao:

Fumbling chips, checking out of turn, apologizing for not drinking. Everyone else at the table is belching talking trash and he's like

"Hello! Lovely to see you. May I raise please?"

What time you guys planning to drive through?

I might take Amtrack home Sunday night so I can work on Monday. I have Friday afternoon off so I could take the train up too if it's easier.
We'll pick you up on our drive Friday - it's free and on the way. If you stick around to Monday, we can drop you off... World Cup watchin' is gonna be fun

I'll stick around to watch the game on Sunday for sure.Just was trying to figure out Friday.

Picked up a Chromecast today, mainly so I can watch True Detective on an actual TV when I get moving on it, but I'm curious how it works on some other stuff.

We have investigated your complaint and found that the driver in your case violated TLC rules. No hearing will be necessary as the driver has plead guilty to an appropriate charge and paid a penalty.

Honda Pilot versus Toyota Highlander versus ______?

Going to look for cars for the first time evah tomorrow. Do not relish.

A few months ago I was working very late & a hack refused to pick me up across from Bryant Park (duty light on, of course). He had stopped & asked where I was headed but then took off after I answered. I was holding his locked back door at the time. When he stopped at the light I took pictures of him & his medallion number, then flagged another cab. I went online, filed the 311 report & uploaded the pictures before I got home. A couple days later 311 called to take my testimony over the phone.

Think I'll finish this bottle of wine tonight.

Wait...1. Why would a cabbie do this?

2. Why would you care enough to report it?

I rented a Highlander for a week while on a business trip last year and loved it. But for dual car seat purposes, you might prefer the Pilot. Bosses wife has 3 boys, liked it so much she got the same car again when her lease was up.

Couple things here. When it's shift change time (famously, 4:30-5:00 pm), I get it. You might try to grab a fare on your way back to the garage but you don't want to go out of your way. But cabbies do this all the time to avoid the outer boroughs. Or because they don't want to drop in a sketchy neighborhood because it'll be an empty ride getting back to prime pickup areas. Must have happened to me at least 40-50 times in the 8 years I lived in Brooklyn.

In this instance, it was midnight, I'm wearing a suit, going straight across midtown, 6th Ave to 10th Ave along 42nd. It's illegal to refuse a fare based solely on destination.

A few weeks before this went down I read an article about what to do if a cabbie refuses to pick up. I completed the online form in like 3 minutes.

You need to keep your feet on the ground. Keep your head in the clouds. Electrified by the sound.

Cab drivers in a lot of cities keep their fares but pay a company for the right to use their medallion and their car. The medallions can be really expensive - like hundreds of thousands of dollars - so leasing a medallion/car for the evening might be about 80 bucks for a 12 hour shift or 130 for 24.. So if you don't make that much in fares for the day, it actually cost you money to work that day. And the city regulates how much the cabs can charge, whether it's a metered rate, or a flat rate to a longer distance or airport trip. So the only way they make money is to hustle for fares. That's the whole point of the medallion system - the city makes a bundle of money selling them, then they control the number of medallions and regulate them heavily to reward the right behaviors.

Some cabbies like long trips They want to make their 100 bucks in a couple longer trips for the day, and kind of chill out in between. When an airport call comes in over the radio, there's usually a race for the first guy to answer, because you get one big fare going to the airport, and usually get an even bigger fare leaving the airport, since city cabs can't pick someone up in the suburbs, but they can drive someone out there, and that's their biggest fare of the day. That's why there's a long line of cabs at the airport during the day - sometimes those guys will hang out for an hour or two, playing cards, eating lunch, and generally killing time until the airport authority calls their number. If they get "screwed" with a short fare, they can usually come back to the airport within 30 minutes and reclaim their spot in line so they don't have to wait.

But during peak hours - weeknights after work gets out, rainy days, weekend nights near the bars - those guys want nothing to do with a long trip. Because starting the meter puts a flat 2 bucks and change on it, the more people they can pick up and drop off, the more money they make. It's way better to pick up five fares an hour for six bucks plus tip, than one long 15 dollar fare that brings them out to the middle of nowhere, then have to drive back to the bar area and hope to get someone else.

And then of course there's the guy who leased the medallion for the day, but has an appointment somewhere at 4. Or the guy who wants his last fare to be somewhere near his house as he drives home. Nothing wrong with that, really, except that the city only gives out so many medallions, and if the guys who own them decide not to pick people up because they don't like the destination, then they're not really living up to the expectations of the medallion program.

Which is why a lot of times, unethical cab drivers will lock their doors and pull over, ask you where you're going, and if they don't like it, they'll drive off. That's against the rules, and they can get in a lot of trouble for it. They might also decide not to pick you up because they're racist, or you look drunk, or you look young enough that you might be drunk even if they can't tell, or they don't like the neighborhood where you're going, or whatever. If they own their medallion and get enough complaints, they can lose it - and remember that a medallion costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. If the company they work for gets in trouble for someone breaking the rules while using their medallion, you better believe they don't like that, either. So calling something in like this is potentially a really big deal. But it's also the only way to keep people from doing this crap.

I was planning on heading back to Y-town tomorrow morning, but I'm thinking I might just hit the road now. Had an epic nap earlier, I'm pretty much 100% packed, and frankly, I have nothing better to do for the next 8 hours...might as well drive 600 miles.
Is this a visit, or permanent move? Sorry if this has been covered.

I thought about you the other day, I was going to suggest you get a job at Children's Hospital. So much hot tail there, young nurses, etc. But then I remembered about all the kids there.

Here's a picture I apparently took of myself in or around junior high.

Guess I wanted to show the world what a pioneer I was -- a teenager with interests in sports, music, and Christina Applegate.

Except there was of course no innernet back then, so I'm not quite sure who the intended audience would have been.

I'm curious why you thought you needed 4 basketballs

How sick would a kid have to be to be out of bounds for Homer? Stage 4 cancer?

NOW the pic works for me.

Has anybody mentioned how many balls there are in that pic?
