GM's thread about nothing (14 Viewers)

Buying a house is a PIA. The house I'm in now, I love. But when I was looking to buy it, I had 2 criteria that were deal breakers. It had to have 3 bedrooms and no mello Roos taxes. What did I buy? A 2 bedroom with mello Roos. but it's perfect for us, 2 master suites, nice yard, especially for south OC, a driveway, which is a luxury here, and I have no one within 50 feet of me on all four sides, complete miracle for south OC. And for good measure it was the most expensive 2bd house that didn't have an ocean view. :pickle:

The moral of the story? If you like the house and the positives out weigh the negatives, you're going to be ok. No house is perfect, and k4's advice of picturing yourself there is good stuff.
GB Texas and its no mello Roos taxes.

Kritta- They are talking about your poker guy on Chicago sports radio. Matt Spiegel says he used to play in a weekly game with him.
I'll ask Mr krista but have never heard of Matt Spiegel, and I know who all the regular players were. He could have showed up a time or two. Sometimes a musician recording at the studio would sit in, too; everybody liked the non-regulars since they usually weren't very good. The Tuesday game isn't as regular as it once was, but Brandon's still living on Steve's couch, until they get back to Chicago I suppose.
Are you a musician?

Per Mr krista, Matt was a semi-regular and is "a great guy", "one of the few sports talk radio people who isn't a shrieking #######" and is also a member of the band Tributosaurus. What did he have to say?

Dropped my daughter and her friends off at Summerfest last night. I pulled into a parking lot and asked if I could just pull forward (about 2 blocks) and just drop them off. The woman was nice about it, but said 'no, we can't let people do that, you will have to turn around and go somewhere else"

I said no problem and started to turn around but had to wait for other cars pulling in, so I told them to just jump put and walk from there.

The security guard starts yelling "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!!! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!!!!!!!" Screaming over and over, yet not getting off his scooter.

They jump out anyway as I still had to wait for cars driving by me.

As I pass by the Security Guard, he says "I hope they have a ####ty time", not loud, but it caught me off guard and I stopped to ask what he said. He looked straight ahead and didn't say a word, then it finally hit me what he had said.... As he glanced back at me, I nodded my head and said, "Thanks Barney Fife, I'm sure they won't". The ticket lady broke out in a little grin and I drove off.

What a doosh

He was just talking about what an incredible run Brandon was having and how amazing it is that he's won/lost hands to this guy. Seemed genuinely happy for him.

Everyone who knows him well says it couldn't have happened to a better person. This is mostly a group of misanthropes, so the  they have for the guy is especially telling.

Unpack, please

Really stoked about my getaway next Tuesday! Just booked a room at a quaint B and B in Sausalito that over looks the city. Fireplace in the room, balcony, jacuzzi, the whole bit. Much sexy time anticipated. :pickle: Told them we are celebrating our anniversary, sorta true, it's in a few weeks, and they're throwing in a bottle champagne. :highroller:

Krista - that advice is awesome. Thanks.

I had a great first United Way board meeting today. Four people who are local celebrities to me were in the meeting and every one of them told me the great things they'd heard about me. And one of the staffers told me that there was a standing ovation in the staff meeting this week when it was announced that I had been elected to the Board.

I'm very intrigued by this matrix of house features and their respective weightings.

Perhaps you should upload it as an Excel template.

Romo was supposed to leave to come home tomorrow. He just got sent to Denver for 2 more weeks instead. I'm full-term in 2.5 weeks. Neat industry.

Also, he rented this couple's basement apartment while in Colorado Springs for the last 5 weeks. We found it on Craigslist. I'm looking for a similar type deal in Denver. We're pretty much playing the murder lottery, right?

If you're lucky they may just keep him as a sex slave

I wouldn't be concerned about it in the least.

On a wholly unrelated note, what's his life insurance situation?

Can you find me a basement for Beerhole? This high-falutin Intercontinental wants 5 racks for 3 nights. :hot:

Buying a house:

Remind yourselves that for generations families had small houses, kids shared bedrooms, there were no home offices or play rooms or entertainment rooms. Also look at listings in crappy areas and see what small houses they are and what they are missing. Americans have some of the most elaborate middle class housing desires in the world.

Then try to find everything you want. But remind yourself that what you want is probably not an absolute necessity.

I was really hoping this story was going to end with "so them I smashed his face into my car repeatedly".

I. Was standing in the rain wAiting...

Best round of mini golf I evah played was in the pouring monsoon rain in Houston while absolutely smashed. Those afternoon rain showers are a trip!!

And my peach tree is producing the most delicious peaches!! It's amazing, damn thing isn't even 6 feet tall and I'm going to get 30 or so racket ball sized peaches off it.

Very cool. How many of them did you bang?

Usually you get raped a lot first but yeah, I would say murder is the end game.

Sitting outside and drinking frozen margaritas on your way home from the beach on a Friday is WAYYYYY better than working imo
