Apple nerds....wife wants to get an iPad. Mostly she wants it for Facetime, Facebook, email, browsing, recipes, Pandora, a few games...you know, chick stuff.

We don't want to drop $500 or whatever they cost. What's a good option for relatively cheap? What's the difference between the different generations? Are refurbs a bad idea?

ETA Juts need Wifi..no need for cell service
I just got an iPad mini. I like it a lot. It seems plenty big enough for all of that to me.
She doesn't want a mini.

We have Samsung phones and she would normally get a tablet but she wants the Facetime since her mom and siblings all have iPads and do the Facetimes.
I hate to say it because I'm the king of cheap, but go ahead and find a way to spring for the iPad. Its what she wants. The money you save will be nothing compared to the hell of an unfulfilled wife.
Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I just want to see if it's feasible to find a first gen or iPad2 or some older version on the cheap...and if those are even viable options anymore. I'm all Android so I know nothing about the different versions

I mean get her a new one. If you can, wait for the next rev. so she's outclassing her clutch. Definitely don't make fer feel like the stepchild. Get a Wal mart card with 0% and in its like 35 a month or something (that's what I did for my wife's iPhone that COlin has now). Creepy that I'll be paying $ 35 a month for another year so COlin can talk with class.

I see what you're saying. She actually is the one who said we should get an older one. But I never even thought about financing. Thanks.

Every situation is different but my wife has an iPad 2 and is completely happy with it. She's doesn't feel like she's missing anything. It can do everything you've discussed.

If you don't mind not getting brand-new, we have a first gen (I think? we got very early but had to get a second when our first crapped out quickly) that I will send you for free. Mr. krista uses it and I noticed today that there is a crack on the face of it but it doesn't look bad (he uses it all the time). Again would just send to you, so even though imperfect if you think it would get you through for a while you could have it.

Cos is right. I am an idiot, and got her a Chromebook when she wanted an iPad. Short story short, she now has an iPad Air and I have a Chromebook.

It might be a 2. I don't really pay attention to this stuff. We've had it for a while, though.
That would be awesome but if he uses it all the time I wouldn't feel right about that.
He uses it while at the same time using a laptop and sometimes a phone, too. I'm not sure he really needs all that stimulation, but more importantly (to him), we could replace with something. We're going to bed soon and heading out way early tomorrow morning, but let's chat via PM and see if this would help you.

Love me some K4

Tried to get the boys to watch old 3 stooges episodes, but they're not into them.

But...I can't stop thinking that Shuke holds a striking resemblance to Curley

Oh yay, fireworks.

I guess this is better than Wicker Park in Chicago, where July 4th fireworks lasted for at least a week. My dog wouldn't go outside for days on end. :(

So Tanner, I'm arriving Thur and my calendar is filling. Do I get to block out chill time with you? Da Raiders acts like it a huge deal to drive 40 miles to see someone who flew 1800 and SLBD is sober.
I have no idea. I need to finish summer school and then see what the hell else I need to do.

Striper- I was at Coachmans Golf Resort in Wisconsin lasgt weekend. If my brother broke into your hotel room and pooped in bathroom im sorry.

It's closer to 60 and your flight is probably shorter than my drive during the week. And mighty convenient that you leave out the little factoid that it's my daughters bday that Friday. ;) What are you doing on Sunday? I'd absolutely love to see you if possible.

the only issues come with the upgrades. Older iPads struggle with some of the new upgrades and the apps are all built for the new tech. Same with the iphones. My original 4 barely works now. Super slow

Or you could just buy her Gobots.

Sup oats? Wtf you doing up at 4:20am? Terrorist?
What else. Mrs O completely loses her mind when the baby cries these days. Every now and then I intervene to positive effect. Baby crying? Go in nursery. Pick up baby. Hold baby for a minute. Baby stops crying and goes to sleep. Put baby down. Genius!

Nope. My daughter has the 2nd Gen one and the latest OSs have stopped supporting that far back (and it's starting to hit my 3rd Gen a little), so there are some apps she can't even download. You might be able to get away with one generation back, but apple does a good job of subtly making your device obsolete over time so you have to go out and replace it with a newer one
