Good looking out for me, GB.ANNOUNCE: KRISTA4 - CLICK ON THE LAST LINK...IT'S THE ONLY FUNNY ONE
Love you, buddy. My father's memorial service is today. Well, it's not really a "service" as there's no program or anything formal. It's basically "come have a drink and eat some food and say 'hi'".
We're having it at my aunt's - she's got a gorgeous outdoor entertaining area that can handle a large group of people (spill-over area can be the rest of her 600 acres). Good thing, because we've had about 100 people that said they are coming and I'm sure there will be more that just show up.
Of course, now my mother is worried that there won't be enough food. I asked her last night "Mom, have you ever seen someone leave your sister's house hungry?". Won't matter - she'll still worry. Talked to my aunt later on and she's got it covered, as I knew she would.
We've got friends of my father's coming who I haven't seen since I was a kid. And people I went to school with I haven't seen since HS graduation who didn't really know my dad but are coming for me. Or for my brother. Or for the booze and eats.
It's gonna be an emotional day, but also cathartic. I'm not a fan of the word "closure", but I also think that comes into play here - especially for my mother. Because there was no funeral or viewing, I think things have been in kind of a weird limbo the last two weeks and today will, hopefully, bring this period to a gentle close.
That plot twist sucks.Plot twist: Homer hates the bar he works at. Like, really bad.

Hello?Tre, I think we are going to find some common ground with this wolves team, especially if they get rid of that **** and add wiggins.
Let's go no mattresses for now.Only if you want to read endless pages of what types of food people like and dislike, stories of successful and unsuccessful womanizing, debates over what brand of {insert item here - most recently mattresses} to buy, tales about drinking heavily mixed with empty promises to never drink again and view countless jpegs/gifs of cats and cats dressed as other animals.Does that require reading the thread from the start? Not sure I'm up for that.Always good when a fresh face jumps in here and sheds some expert knowledge. Stick around.Very much so. He's got 60 days from the loss of coverage to get something via ACA exchange. He's also got 60 days from the COBRA offer to accept to reject it. If both of those 60 day windows expire, he'll have to go till the end of the year uninsured (unless another "qualifying event" occurs for him).I don't think the lapse thing is an issue anymore, is it?Hang in there. I do know that Cobra is nothing to mess around with - there is a pretty tight timeline to accept it or you lose insurance. No matter how expensive you don't want insurance to lapse. Good luck, hopefully you will end up with something better immediately or with a better career future.I haven't been around to post in a while but have been following along. Have had some of my own crap to deal with lately.
It looks like in about a week i am going to be without a job. I spent 13 years with my previous company and knew the time was coming to an end so i had an exit plan. Landed on my feet right away. Did not full see this one coming. So, I have no exit plan and have not really begun looking. I have a prospect back home in North Carolina that i am flying back next week to do on site interviews at. Other than that i am looking at being without benefits at the end of next week. I have never had to look into any of this COBRA stuff. All i know is that it is expensive as balls. Not looking forward to that. I have kind of been feeling down on myself lately and need to get out of a funk to start looking hard for a new job. My wife works at a small non profit and they have no benefits through their organization. So, she is starting to look as well. Some fun times ahead for us.
Just needed to vent some. Thanks for listening.![]()

Hang in there UH. Tough time - but it does get better overall with time.Yesterday was really nice. The weather was gorgeous. I tried to count how many were there, but gave up after 120. So many folks, especially for 3-5 on a Friday afternoon. My aunt also went way further with the food than she had led me to believe.
My mother maintained really well, but that's no shock as she's always able to put on her best face. She rode with Mata & I to/from and we stayed at Mom's last night. All 3 of us were out like a light by 9:30. I suspect that, now that there are no more "chores" to do with dad (other than a few bits of paperwork #### still hanging), she'll probably crash sometime in the next few days. It's gonna be real now for her.
Thanks, my friend. I'm fine. There's no good side to that damned disease, but I guess I got eased into my father not being around anymore by it taking the "him" part of him a long time ago.Hang in there UH.
