GM's thread about nothing (8 Viewers)

The mrs makes a Sriracha slaw to go on pulled pork sandwiches and slow cooked chicken tacos. Only slaw I've genuinely liked, although I've never had a vinegar based slaw.

As anyone at BeerHole can attest from seeing me hanging out with Charles, I'm clearly not in the "no" camp
Mrs. SLB and myself talked about this kind of stuff pretty early in our relationship so, you know, you've been warned and stuff.
Didn't you guys start dating at age 12???

Man I can't stand horseradish. I love spicy stuff but horseradish (and wasabi) has that thing that I just can't stand. I understand and accept that I'm probably wrong. This isn't like mushrooms here.
This is insanity - Roast Beef with Horseradish and Seared Ahi Tuna with Wasabi are both top 20 things to eat for me - maybe even contenders for top 10.
I should like horseradish and wasabi, but I don't.
You've had REAL horseradish? Not that craptacular sauce stuff?I may have to start a list of my own.
Sampled some "atomic" horseradish at a beer fest last weekend that blinded me for about 8 seconds
I can't imagine how painful that might be. I know guys that can take on all the "SO HOT YOUR POOP WILL BURN YOU FOOD CHALLENGE" and live to tell about it. Me? I so much as sniff Tabasco Sauce and I start sweating. I ate a Mango Habenero (sp?) wing at BWW on Saturday (look at me, I eat awful food!) and almost died. I had to stick my tongue in my glass of beer and just let it rest there. :bag:
That reminds me of our fun Youth Group Super Bowl party. At halftime, we had a hot wings eating contest. The winner won a free spot for a friend to our spring retreat which was $130. So a decent prize. All they had to do was be the first one to finish 3 hot wings.

3 hot wings coated with some regular hot wing sauce that had a good dose of some super hot sauce (with some name like "Tom's Atomic Anal Melting Sauce") added. It was so hot it made my nose run and eyes water just sniffing it.

Now, our group was a weird mix this last year of mostly guys that were seniors and girls that were in junior high. The boys all quickly decided that they would rather force their friends to pay $130 than even attempt the challenge. 5 junior high girls were not that smart.

I'm pretty sure the hottest thing any of these girls had ever eaten was a Red Hot candy or maybe something with a little Tabasco. This stuff was like 3,000 times hotter than Tabasco. So they had no idea what true heat was.

Within 10 seconds they were screaming, crying, gagging and drooling. Basically like an afternoon with Homer. 3 of them only managed about 3 bites and were done. One finished 2.5 wings and one did actually finish them all.

They then all raced to different bathrooms to throw up (which makes it burn worse in your mouth and throat), put their heads in the sink and gulp water into their mouths (water just spreads it and makes it worse), chug tons of milk (actually helps), eat yogurt and bread. There was screaming and crying for about a half hour. In the end, 4 of their moms had to come pick then up.

It was awful and hilarious.

Also, it is the last time we're having a Super Bowl party, let alone a wing eating contest.

Anyone else here have ATT Uverse?
Si
Did you get a random charge of 37 cents sometime in the last few months?
37!?!?!?
10.7 million Uverse customers. 37 cents per customer per X months.
In a row?
Looks like it's been on at least five people I know's bills every 4-5 months for at least a year. If everybody's getting hit with this even once a year, it's four million dollars in revenue. You call and tell them what it is, and they say it was a billing error and they'll credit you the 37 cents.

The Scorpions have been a band since 1965. That's nuts.

Let's take a YouTube dip through Sublime's catalog before we start throwing around the "worst band ever" tag so lightly.

Basic slaw recipe.

Fresh cut green and purple cabbage, and carrots.

Apple cider vinegar.

Mayo

Sugar

Pepper

Celery Salt

The ratio of vinegar to mayo is where you really need to play around until you get the type of slaw you like. I think I'm about 1:1.

Celery salt is secret ingredient.

Good recipe base. I use about 2/3 cup mayo tops. More apple cider vinegar, celery seed, and cajun and cayenne pepper. Prefer the slaw to be crunchier and not drenched in gloppy sauce.

Where did you go to dinner last night?
Followed your reco and went to Ray's

Got there just in time for sunset.

I'm sure there are many great meals to be had in Ballard, but the views and chowder alone made this one a hit. Made my daughter try calamari for the first time and turns out she really likes it... Especially the tentacles!

Grabbed brunch at Lola, swimming in the hotel pool for a little more before checking out, walking around the market for a bit and hopping on the ferry

I think the Clipper would sink itself if she knew you called her a ferry.

Great first day in Seattle. Walked around Pike Place Market and grabbed some lunch, had dessert in park overlooking the waterfront, rode the Ferris wheel, swam in the hotel pool for a long while and now a friend is swinging by to take my daughter and me out for dinner
Awesome. Where you staying?
Marriott Waterfront so we can walk to all the touristy stuff we want to do
Perfect. Such a cool city. Are you guys going to hit the Hendrix Music Experience Museum or whatever it's called? I want to take my boys to that one day.
Yeah, went to the EMP museum yesterday and my daughter wanted to stay so long that it threw off the plans for the rest of the day and ended up altering what we are doing today. But she was having so much fun, there was no way I was going to rush her.

I think I still might prefer Portland, but they are both great cities. I'd take a job out here that allowed me to keep my current standard of living in a heartbeat

You know we've talked about having some options to explore if you were interested. Of course, you're married again now so there's that.

Portland is an easier city, if that makes any sense. But I would love to have a MLB team or some of the other really cool things our big sister has that we do not. The beer is most definitely better down here.

It's good to have these conversations early on so you don't end up too far down the road before you realize you want different things. :grad:
Yeah, I certainly learned a lesson from what you went through.

Things seem to be going really well with us. We have had a couple rough spots as we learned each other's needs and communication styles. Fortunately she has resisted her usual reaction of running away anytime anything gets hard and we have been able to talk things through.

The topic of kids has come up from time to time (especially after the broken condom scare, oops) and seems like something you'd want to at discuss if you see the relationship as something that will/could last.

In some relationships it's been a definite no for me, but my general policy has been "never say never." In this case, there's just something about it that feels right, in due time

I'm pretty sure new girl would be up for it. The mother of my child would be significantly more resistant.

The Scorpions have been a band since 1965. That's nuts.

Let's take a YouTube dip through Sublime's catalog before we start throwing around the "worst band ever" tag so lightly.
I think it has something to do with the era that each band hit is big. Back when I was in HS there were all kinds of halfwits that loved the Scorpions.

Rhythm of Love (Warning: Some slight TnA.)

The singer looks like Steven Wright and Rhea Perlman had a butt-baby.
