We can't do that for regulatory reasons (this is a health-care company). It doesn't matter to us, actually; we don't need him to invest. He wants to and we are trying to be accommodating. We'll just get the deal done before interest would start to accrue.

I did read more about this today out of curiosity, and what you mentioned is exactly how Muslims will often buy houses in the US. There are intermediaries who buy the house and then up the purchase price to take into account what the imputed interest would have been, but then make a no-interest loan. Habitat for Humanity also has programs with no-interest loans for them. Sounds like "cheating" to me, but I'm no Islamic scholar and apparently it's commonly accepted.
