Goodbye Rams (1 Viewer)

I think the Rams would become the NFL team with the most relocations (4): Moved to Los Angeles, Anaheim, St. Louis, and then back to Los Angeles.

Most people in LA would consider the move to Anaheim "leaving town". When they went there, the Raiders promptly moved into LA county and took over the county fanbase.
If you're counting Los Angeles and Anaheim as separate moves, then you'll need to count Tempe and Glendale as separate moves as well.

Tempe and Glendale are suburbs at opposite ends of the metro area of Phoenix. Anaheim is hour from the westside of Los Angeles.

They moved three times when they were in Cleveland as well.

Per the San Diego U-T via PFT, Stan Kroenke is in negotiations to purchase Hollywood Park in Inglewood, a 200 acre area that housed the now defunct Hollywood Park Racetrack. He already owns the 60 acre parcel of land on the north side of the Hollywood Park site.

Report: Rams owner trying to buy old Hollywood Park site
Posted by Darin Gantt on November 11, 2014, 11:24 AM EST

Technically speaking, the Rams are talking to Missouri officials about a new stadium deal which would keep the team in St. Louis.

But Rams owner Stan Kroenke keeps buying land in California, just in case.

In an column by Nick Canepa of U-T San Diego outlining the impact on the Chargers of a team moving to Los Angeles (perhaps even themselves), Kroenke’s recent interest in real estate is revealed almost parenthetically.

After mentioning the 60 acres in Inglewood he bought earlier this year, the report says Kroenke is “said to be negotiating to purchase” of Hollywood Park, the 300-acre defunct racetrack.

While the stadium issue in Los Angeles is a hot potato that stays in the air longer than teams have stayed in L.A., Kroenke having such a stadium-sized parcel should be a concern to any Missouri politicians who have serious hopes of keeping the Rams in town.

If, of course, they’re serious about trying to keep them.
On the one hand, Kroenke's a shrewd businessman, so why wouldn't he want to buy real estate in the L.A. area near the westside.

On the other hand, it's pretty convenient that the owner of an NFL team that was in L.A. for 50+ years prior to relocating and who wants a new stadium is buying a gigantic parcel of land that would easily be large enough to house an NFL stadium + parking and shops around it. And, the area has already been used for sporting events.

I liked this part, too: "...you’ll be fine with San Diego losing a huge part of its identity to a city it traditionally can’t stand, a smoky neighbor from which it’s been trying to separate itself for a century."

Separate itself? Are there really people who consider L.A. and San Diego together or one and the same?

The Rams have to decide by January 28th if they are going to move to a year-to-year lease at The Dome.

Kroenke would have to file to relocate February 15th, 2015.

St.Louis is in the initial process to build a new stadium. Rams ain't going anywhere.
St. Louis is in no position to spend $1 billion on a stadium right now. I know they want to keep them but I don't see how it's feasible.
The NFL has 300 mill to kick in for existing cities if the team stays. St.Louis is working on a few hundred million in bonds and raising rental car tax. Kroenke will kick in a few hundred mill. Not that hard.

will be interesting to see what happens coming up. Does a new stadium get fans at the game though after 3-4 years and the newness wears off?

Their demands on the stadium remodel came out today. Link.

It looks like the last cards are being played so they can justify their exit from St. Louis. I'll repost my e-mail to Ram's Vice-President Kevin Demoff and his reply when they announce they are moving in 24-36 months. It will be funnier then.

Watching the Greatest Show On Turf in person was some of best times in my life. I'll be sad to see them go and always hate Belicheat & the Patriots for stealing the 2001 Superbowl. :( :sadbanana:

If the Rams move back to LA they have to revive this too: https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=QxkKlzInR4Y

Edit: in case anyone else is as infatuated with this as I am, here's a "Behind the Scenes" making-of type video, along with a GIF that is now my fantasy team logo:

The land is already picked out and will be donated by the city. It's just a little north of the ED. Nice chunk of land
AEG is hiring staff in Los Angeles to prep for the relocation of an NFL franchise in the area. Presumably, this is the Rams.

Eric Dickerson (in November) said he heard from several Rams officials saying the LA Rams is likely.

These are two contradictory things...

Where are you gonna place a stadium in DTLA?? What are you tearing down to make space?
My understanding is there is a landfill space they are considering cleaning up and using if the team were to be moved. I sure hope they can get it done.

Wow. I love the part where the choreographer tells them "it's very masculine" and they cut to that scene that would be the .gif.

Rams homers, if Mason goes down, who steps in? Does Stacy step back in or does Cunningham become the guy?

Roger Goodell Reportedly Tells Teams No Los Angeles Move for Next Season

The NFL may very well return to Los Angeles in the near future, but it reportedly won't be happening in 2015.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has informed the potential relocation candidates that no move will be made by next season:

This news comes on the heels of Goodell's lukewarm comments regarding the possibility of an L.A. team in 2015 last week, per Ken Belson of The New York Times.

"I'm not at the point where I would tell you that anything is imminent or that we have a solution identified at this point in time," Goodell said. "There is progress, but we've all heard that before."

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the most likely L.A. options moving forward are the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams.

Although 2015 doesn't appear to be realistic for a Los Angeles team at this point, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports that multiple teams are intrigued by the possibility of moving:

There has been so much discussion regarding the NFL going back to L.A. for so long that it is difficult to separate fact from fiction.

Nothing is for certain until an official announcement is made, but it appears as though the league's Los Angeles hiatus will last at least one more year.

St. Louis is in the process of building a new stadium. Rams ain't going anywhere
The Rams were unable to reach an agreement with the regional sports authority in St. Louis to refurbish the Edward Jones Dome, the team’s current home.

But before Thanksgiving, Dave Peacock, the chairman of the St. Louis Sports Commission and a former chief executive of Anheuser-Busch, met at the N.F.L.’s headquarters with Eric Grubman, the league’s point man on Los Angeles.

Peacock shared with Grubman preliminary plans for a stadium near the Mississippi River and north of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, as well as ideas for other potential sites, according to several people with knowledge of their meeting.

Peacock and other business leaders were appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon of Missouri to come up with plans for a new Rams stadium in St. Louis by the end of January.

According to the league’s relocation rules, owners must negotiate in good faith with their host cities about stadiums until all possibilities have been exhausted.

It is unclear whether the plans shown to Grubman were conceptual or fully developed. As in all cases, finding the money to pay for a stadium is critical.

Nixon said last month that funding for a new stadium was possible because the bonds issued to pay for the Edward Jones Dome would be retired in a few years.

Yep, the new stadium plans are supposed to be unveiled in the next few weeks. Heard it's pretty awesome too.

@LATimesfarmer: A BIG DEAL for NFL in LA -- Stan Kroenke, owner of the St. Louis Rams, plans to build an NFL stadium in Inglewood http://t.co/S8ueWz3EnB
The owner of the St. Louis Rams plans to build an NFL stadium in Inglewood, which could pave the way for the league's return to Los Angeles.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke, who bought 60 acres adjacent to the Forum a year ago, has joined forces with the owners of the 238-acre Hollywood Park site, Stockbridge Capital Group. They plan to add an 80,000-seat NFL stadium and 6,000-seat performance venue to the already-massive development of retail, office, hotel and residential space, Stockbridge and the Kroenke Group told The Times.

The announcement is the latest in more than a dozen stadium proposals that have come and gone in the meandering, two-decade effort to bring an NFL franchise back to the nation's second-largest media market. But Kroenke's move marks the first time an existing team owner has controlled a local site large enough for a stadium and parking. ...
Uh this seems like a big story, this might be the real deal.

Erik Kuselias had an interesting take on this on the morning radio drive in to work. Said it was still highly unlikely the Rams move to LA because the NFL owners all have to sign off on the move and there is no incentive for them to let the Rams move for free. Said, hypothetically an expansion franchise could be worth $3B for the rights, and that gets divvied up 32 ways or ~ $100 mill each. Now I think the numbers are way off, but if there's no money coming into the NFL coffers for the Rams to move, I could see Erik's point.

Didn't Al Davis and Georgia Frontiere establish that their permission isn't really needed?

Goodell has been pushing for a team in Los Angeles so I don't buy that the league would try veto the move.

Is there any ghost of a chance that Kroenke will try to leverage the situation to be the owner of an L.A. Expansion team and sell/swap Rams to someone else? I know that Rosenbloom did this with the Colts back in the day.
