Seymour was fined $15,000 for a hit on Texans quarterback Matt Schaub late in the Raiders' 25-20 win at Houston in Week 5. An NFL spokesman said Seymour was fined for roughing the passer, hitting Schaub below the knees.Seymour was fined $7,500 each for a late hit on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and a face-mask penalty on running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis on the first drive of the Patriots' Week 4 win at Oakland. The league also fined Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice $7,500 for grabbing the face mask of St. Louis Rams cornerback Bradley Fletcher.
Yes, its got to the point where players, offensive & deefensive, are getting fined on face mask penalties. Anyone starting to see someting wrong with this crap or is it just me?

Also bs call on Seymour too.

Serious question: why I should care about something like this.
I think it's significant to some degree. The penalties are in place to penalize the player/team during the game. I didn't see the face mask penalties that were listed here, or the late hits. However, unless the were blatant attempts to injure the player than they shouldn't be financially penalized for playing in a violent contact sport. I almost view the game as moving towards a baseball strike zone. You're only allowed to touch opposing players (tackle or otherwise) between a designated area of the body. The game has changed and the rules have too. Everything evolves. The fines are also a slap on the wrist to the players in most regard. But it's also a dirt in the eye to fans like me. I wish I hadn't even read about this topic.

Face mask fines are the line.

I didn't see these facemasks.

I believe the rule is something like-there's some incidental oops type grabs and we'll ignore those, if you grab and rip a facemask you're getting fined.

I'm very much OK with that.

Last year or the year before some player really hurt his neck on one of those.

Facemask fines are stupid. You cannot control facemask penalties. When guys are playing as fast as they are, it happens even when not trying.

Not all face mask penalties are equal.HTH
Was this a particularly egregious penalty (for those of us who didn't see it)? Was this something along the lines of the typical 15 yard variety from a few years ago or something more deserving of an unsportsmanlike penalty?

I didn't see it and the op didn't post a link to it.

THIS!!?What about fines for not wearing a freaking mic during the game? I mean really?
because the refs changed their position they can no longer wear mics on their hats. O-Lineman need to wear a mic in order to capture all the sounds on the field to enhance the TV viewing expereince. It's a business decision, not a football one.

Awful lot of "I didnt see this but im gonna explain why its dumb" in this thread.

The Seymour hit on Schaub was questionable, the two hits he had on Brady were not. The Ray Rice facemask was intentional and obvious.
