Grant's Hamstring Still An Issue (1 Viewer)

He's playing the Lions this weekend. He could amputate the leg at the knee and still be good for a buck-fifty and 2 TDs.

From McCarthy's Presser today:

"(How many snaps did Grant end up playing?)

I don't have it here with me, not off the top of my head.

(Was it roughly what you were shooting for with him?)

I think it's realistic how much he played. He was very sore at halftime. It affected him on the long run. It's just something that we're being cautious with. It's unfortunate for him. I know he's a little frustrated with it, but he was not at full strength last night. I thought he did a very good job of giving us what he could.

(When you say sore, his hamstring was sore or he was sore from getting hit?)

Hamstring. "

Time to monitor Wed-Thurs-Fri practce notes and statements from coach/Grant constantly throughout the week. Fun! :goodposting:

More on this:

Grant had only eight carries in the first half and when he wasn't in the game in the second half he could be seen riding a stationary bike on the sideline. He ran just once in the third quarter - in part because the Packers didn't have the ball much - and twice in the fourth quarter before breaking his long run.

Apparently, Grant was under strict orders not to push it too hard if he got into the open field and when he got beyond the line of scrimmage, he heeded the advice.

"The trainers and coaches were yelling at me on the sideline, 'Don't open it up, don't open it up,' " Grant said. "I didn't. And that's my mentality, not to do it right away. But it will get better."

Exactly when that occurs is unknown. More than likely, the coaches will have to limit Grant's work in practice until the hamstring improves.

He was given several weeks off during training camp to let the injury heal, but it's clear he still has a ways to go before he's back to full strength. Grant said he was told he did no further harm to the hamstring during the game, so he should be able to play Sunday at Detroit.

Against the Vikings, he played 24 snaps and touched the ball on half of them. Backup Brandon Jackson played 30 snaps and had seven rushes for 12 yards and three catches for 18 yards.

McCarthy said Grant played about as much as was expected.

Grant had limited participation at practice today.

Brandon Jackson, meanwhile, did not practice due to a concussion. I haven't heard if he's in danger of not playing Sunday.

Not to bemoan the B.Jackson point but the offense looked much more productive with Grant, Jackson has developed slightly this year and was o.k. when catching passes out of the backfield. I was a little curious as to why he kept putting his head down early?

Then again, they could only play rb #3 and still win by 30. Maybe they rest him this week.:sadLionsfan:

this makes me cautiously optimistic that it will continue to improve during the week - I'm sure the Packers are limiting his practices in order to help rest the injury.

He broke a long carry against MIN... he can do that against Det w/o injuring his hamstring... heck 1 80 yard TD and I'll be happy.

Yeah I have ragged on Jackson since they drafted him but I feel a bit guilty. The guy looks like he is trying real hard and has a big heart. Something odd and almost magnetic in his ability to aim straight for the pile, they need to teach him to keep his head and eyes up. He was putting his head down on a few plays way too early. Lumpkin!!
