GREAT NEWS: Bulger cleared to practice, on track for Sunday start (1 Viewer)

I agree with previous, this does not sound like good news I have him and he has underperformed all year when he was healthy or at least where he is now. I'll still probably start J Campbell even though I don't look at his match up to be very favorable, at least he won't go down in the 1st quarter. (knock on wood)

Well this is good news to me i have buldger and if he can play vs the bengals . Well then that sounds like good fantasy points to me  I know he is a fantasy nightmare . But i have to lean on him this week agaisnt a weak weak def.

Way to go, jinx boy.

Sources: Bulger WON'T Play Sunday

Sources: Bulger won't play Sunday

By Jim Thomas

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

12/07/2007

Quarterback Marc Bulger did not feel well following meetings Thursday, and is now listed as questionable for Sunday’s game in Cincinnati.

By official NFL definition, "questionable" means a player has a 50-50 chance of playing in that week’s game.

But two sources have told the Post-Dispatch that Bulger will not play Sunday. That means Brock Berlin -- who has yet to throw a pass or play in a regular-season game -- will make his first NFL start.

Coach Scott Linehan said early Friday afternoon that he will decide what to do at quarterback within the next 12 to 24 hours.

Backup quarterback Gus Frerotte also is out with a partially torn labrum in his right (throwing) shoulder.

"Marc had really what I thought were two very good practices Wednesday and Thursday, but that’s the objective part," Linehan said. "I guess the subjective part is he didn’t feel really good after (Thursday) afternoon’s meetings.

"Because of that, it puts some questions in my mind as to whether or not he should be cleared to play. . . .We’re not going to put a guy out on the field if there’s any doubt whatsoever when it comes to these kinds of injuries. Or any injuries."

Linehan knows better than most when it comes to the risk of playing with concussions. His brother Ron passed away two years ago from Alzheimer’s disease following a football career in which he had numerous concussions.

Bulger suffered a concussion Nov. 25 against Seattle and didn’t play last week against Atlanta. He passed a neuropsych, or baseline test, this Tuesday, which cleared him to practice.

A final decision on whether Bulger would play against Cincinnati had been expected Friday. Once a player is cleared to practice, it’s normally routine for a player to play in the next game.

But Bulger, who has played with rib, knee and shoulder injuries _ among others _ over the course of his NFL career, said earlier in the week that he would be very careful in dealing with an injury to his head.

"There was certainly no reason until yesterday afternoon to believe he wasn’t going to play," Linehan said. "But based on how he felt physically, it changed. So we told Brock to get ready (Thursday) afternoon at the end of the meeting and he took a number of snaps (Friday)."

The Rams also signed Todd Bouman for quarterback insurance, and Bouman was on the practice field Friday. Linehan plans to consult further with team doctors and athletic trainers on Bulger’s condition.

Linehan said Bulger told him Thursday afternoon that he "just didn’t feel right.

Marc Bulger-QB- Rams Dec. 7 - 6:18 pm et

Sources tell the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Marc Bulger (concussion) will not play Sunday at Cincinnati.

Brock Berlin is expected to make his first career start (and throw his first career pass), which crushes any hope for Isaac Bruce being a good fantasy play and makes Torry Holt risky, although we'd still pencil "Big Game" in as a WR2/3 or flex. The Rams figure to focus on getting Steven Jackson the rock against the Bengals' 23rd-ranked run defense and limiting Berlin's attempts.

Bulgar does not even want to play.

It is amazing, if this was his contract year you could bet he would be playing. Now after getting the big $$$ and the team out of the chase..who needs it. Now I see why teams hate to fork up the big bonus money.

It is great news for Bruce, Holt and Jackson owners.
thank you, My point being a Holt owner. I guess they couldn't get past the headline...pity.
I did read the whole article,I am just wondering how Bulgerat much less than 100% is "great news".Holt and Bruce have been putting up decent numbersas of late, without Bulger behind center.

If they were in the hunt at all then maybe Bulger would be playing but it's not like Bulger stting out is going to hurt the Rams. They are completely out of it with or without Bulger. And they just paid him all that dough for more than just this year. So if sitting out another meaningless game helps protect him for next year, I doubt the team upper ups care. Plus, Frerrote's days as a viable backup are nearing an end, won't hurt at all to see what Berlin can do. I know what you're trying to say, I've got one on my team whose motivation has waned with the growth of his bank account, but I just don't think it applies here. Maybe if he was on one of the 6-6 or 5-7 teams and he was sitting out you could apply it here. But the Rams and Bulger have nothing to play for, Bulger doesn't have to prove anything to anyone, they have a pretty bad OL so what's the point of letting your big money guy go out there and get clobbered when there's nothing at stake?
