Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (1 Viewer)

23.5 Lakers vs Celtics and the NBA Playoffs-Sega Genesis- 4th Generation

Can't believe this was not the first thing that popped in my head for 4th gen. Hours upon hours of play from me and my friends
Does this take NBA Live off the board?
If they are of the same franchise then yes, but I don't follow sports games much so I have no clue if it is.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Live_series
From the looks of that, yes. It seems they just changed the name and started making them every year instead of every other with a new name. If anyone else has more knowledge on the subject and believe they are not the same franchise, it wouldn't bother me to say it would be draftable.
I thought so, but wanted an official ruling. I flirted with the idea of taking NBA Live '95 with my flex spot. If it's off the table, that helps me with the decision. I really did enjoy the Playoff series before the Live series, though. It highlighted the superstars with special shots that they could take from a special spot on the floor. The big downside I didn't like about the games was that they played very slow and I tended to sub out my centers for faster power forwards every time. Most of the time, the center didn't even get down the court before the shot was taken. But NBA Live '95 on the Genesis was a breath of fresh air and was my favorite of the series. I'm sure everyone has their favorites, but that was mine. I guess it's a good thing I can't take it. I dont' need 3 basketball games on my roster. I'll start looking like larryboy with Final Fantasy games. :)

I take leisure suit Larry Box Office Bust 360 worst game

Following its release on 27 March, 2009, Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust was near universally panned by critics. Chris Watters of GameSpot described the game as "Mindless, repetitive gameplay and a truly atrocious sense of humor help Leisure Suit Larry live up to its name—it's a total bust" while Charles Onyett expressed his opinion on his review of the game on IGN as "The lowest rating numbers here at IGN are reserved for games with nearly no redeeming qualities or interesting ideas, with next to nothing enjoyable to offer players, and which under no circumstances should be purchased by anyone. Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust is, without a doubt, one of those games".Gametrailers.com gave the game a 2.3 out of 10, making it the lowest rated game on the website. Official Xbox Magazine gave it a 1.0, calling it an "astroturd" of a game. OXM also stated it was their worst rated game of the year so far, as well as going as far to say that it was the worst game on the Xbox 360 console thus far.Al Lowe thanked VU Games on his website for keeping him away from what he called "the latest disaster"[7].In PlayStation: The Official Magazine's September 2009 issue, PTOM joked about punishing a PS3 owner's dog by making it play the Leisure Suit Larry game. The dog had urinated on his owner's PS3, which surprisingly still works[citation needed].Gamespot.com nominated the game for "Flat Out Worst Game of the Year" in 2009. It "lost" to Stalin vs. Martians.Giant Bomb gave the game the Worst Game of the Year Award in 2009.Australian television show Good Game awarded it to be the Worst Game of 2009.Screwattack.com gave the game a SAGY award for the Worst Multiconsole game of 2009.Amazon.com most (if not all) reviews condemn the game as the worst Larry ever produced.[8]

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, Worst Game

OK, so ET was annoying, Super Columbine Massacre is offensive, Leisure Suit Larry's new game was awful... But at least they were actual GAMES...

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing was released AND sold and didn't even fully function as a game. What happened was you installed it on your computer, picked your truck and your track and one of two things happened:

1. If you picked one of the five tracks, the game crashed and brought you back to Windows. The track has NEVER worked for anyone who has this game.

2. If the track did start, your one opponent who you are racing never moved from the starting line. Also, if you come to a bridge on the track, you just fell right through it instead of driving over it. To make matters more ridiculous you could just horsepower your way up and over the steepest of mountains and down and back up ravines. NOTHING slowed you down, got in your way, or made you stop driving. You could even drive OFF the map and keep going and the game would think you were still on a "road" of some sort.

So what we have is a racing game with:

- no one to race (never moves)

- no obstacles

- no reason to use brakes or turn

- no physics at all

- no bridges (just transparent things that appear to be there, but aren't)

So while those other games might have been awful (by and large they were) at least they were actual GAMES, instead of this mess of crap that they actually SOLD to people!!

1. Final Fantasy VI2. Final Fantasy IV3. Final Fantasy IX4. Final Fantasy X5. Final Fantasy VII6. Final Fantasy7. all the other crap since Xif anyone was curious...
The fact you have VII at 5th proves to me that you truly are a FFVII hater. It is your opinion but let's just say I am glad you are not a judge because I strongly disagree.
Truly bizarre indeed. But I liked XIII so I really shouldn't talk. (Loved the card mini-game)

OK, I'm kidding, but I will say you having two, maybe 3 Nintendo fanboys instead on only one in my draft is throwing this thing off.
If you are referring to me as a fanboy of Nintendo, than you have mistaken me. Just saying.

:towelwave: Not only is my top sports game not picked, but the top racing game is missing too...

:lmao:

ETA: Oh, and I just spent an hour reading the entire thread. Some awesome games picked and plenty of memories... Big fan of the Pirates! pick and of Grim Fandango.

I haven't had a chance to play this one yet, but a couple of my friends say this was actually pretty freaky (and a solid game too), so there you go.

VERY GOOD GAME! I really thought about picking this, but wasn't sure anyone has played this yet. I had the pleasure of being on the beta. I recommend it. It's $20 on Steam.

I've had FFXIII sitting on my shelf unopened for 8 months. I'll get around to it eventually. I've heard mixed reviews. I'm not one to hate a game because it's linear, so I'm going into it with an open mind. I also haven't really played a Final Fantasy game since VI, though. (Yes, I have never played VII. Or X I'll have to grab the game one day and play it. when I have the time.)

FFXIII is a good game. You just can't go into it with the mindset of this better be FFVI/VII 2.0. Hell, if I ranked the Final Fantasy's it would be in the middle grouping with FF VI/VII for me.

22.11 - The Reapers (from Mass Effect) - Villain/Xbox 360

23.03 - Commander Shepherd - Main Character/Xbox 360

Mass Effect is still underrepresented in here.

The Reapers are a race of machines that return to the galaxy every 50,000 years to wipe out all organic life. Doesn't get much more badass than that.

madshots - please move C.A.T.S. to main character.

I sent you bmarks pick that he sent me slax. Since I probably won't be up when it hits his pick tomorrow morning. :West Coast:

So, did you make Fox News proud and have Asari(blue unisex alien) + female Shepherd do it?

Madshot not sure if you saw it, but i wanted to move Dead Rising to a hacknslash
Not sure if Madshot saw it, but I have it that way on my list.
hells yeah, did you play Dead Rising 2 yet?thinking about buying it now that the price has gone way down
I haven't. If I ever start catching up on games, I may buy it though. I thought about picking up the 400 MSP arcade prequel, though. I heard it was worth the $5.

23.09 Peggle, Puzzle, PC/XBLA/PSN/iOS/etc. (pick a system)

Pop Cap's recent success of making casual games that are addictive as crack has been a very lucrative one. But sometimes, you have to realize that everyone else is making money off of your success with clones of Bejeweled and you have to make a new brand of crack. So, somewhere down the line, one of the guys at Pop Cap was probably watching Plinko on The Price Is Right or playing pachinko and thought, "Hey! What if we made a puzzle game out of pegs like that! Brilliant!"

Enter Peggle. Pop Cap's brand of crack that originated in 2007, where the object of the game is to fire your ball at a series of pegs with random arrangements of blue and orange pegs. Some levels may require you to simply remove all of the orange pegs without using up all of your balls. Some may require you to remove all of the pegs. Some multiplayer rounds may pit you against a player to see who can score the most points.

The mechanics of the game is this. You aim your shot, then launch the ball. Once you've launched your ball, you don't really have control over the where it goes. You must use your best judgement based on gravity and where pegs are located, angle of your shot, and what powerup you may have. And that leads us to your power up. You may have power up shots that allow for special shots, such as a "Zen shot" that helps you aim for a more precise shot or "Superguide", which shows you part of the shot's path or curve.

Even the critically harsh Yahtzee, from Zero Punctuation, said that "I started playing around noon and emerged from my room sometime later to find the authorities had declared me legally dead" in reference to how addictive the gameplay was. (source)

Peggle for XBox 360 Review -

Im sending Rikishi a PM

I just started playing the first Mass Effect as a female Shepherd. There will be no girl-on-girl action in my scenario. However, since I've never done the story as a girl or a renegade - this chick is gonna be bad news for the Reapers!

I believe I can pick now...

23.11 Donkey Kong Country Return, Wii ( 7th Generation)

* I just recently started playing this game, but I gotta say it is pretty good. I have not played many games lately, so I am glad that the look and feel is not that odd....however it is definately a more challenging game than previous Donkey Kong Countries I have played. Either that or I just suck at video games now, which is likely. Anyway even though this game is new to me...(as is most stuff from this generation) I like it and will select it here.

While we wait, Ill tell a personal story. I was living in the trailer park and we had this great video game (Dont want to spotlight). Anyway, I played it so much that I was getting really awesome. One day, I beat the high score and everyone was stoked. Then this futuristic dude named Centauri comes by and asks me to take a ride with him. He tells me that he is the creator of the game.

So I hop in his car and he whisks me away to outer space. The best part about it was that there was an android left in my place so no one would know I wasnt still around. Everyone fell for it except my brother. Anyway, they figured since I was so good at the game, I would be able to help them fight the ko dan armana. I figured why not. How many times do you get to visit outer space.

To make a long story short, we win and they want to retain my services on Rylos. So I hop back down to Earth to pick up my cute girlfriend and she comes with us.

It was pretty cool

Except for the Zandozan's of course.

Like the Zelda II (Link) pick. Really ahead of its time as a RPG as the future Zelda games in the later consoles. It requires strategy of attack and strategic combat system (attacking high and low while needing to press the arrow key to control the shield. It also included an experience points (EXP) system, magic spells, life and attack instead of just gathering pieces of heart or beating an enemy so you can build your own character. First game to really have more interaction with non-player characters to gather clues to advance in the game.

Another good pick this late was Dance Dance Revolution. Really the start up game to make way for GH. Rock Band etc.

I do not play horror/suspense games really..actually never played any of what was drafted so far. I was trying to think of anything I have played that fits this genre and I suddenly remember that I liked dinosaurs (you may remember my extinct species draft) and I remember playing the Dino Crisis games, so I select 24.3 Dino Crisis 2, ps1 (Horror)

..sorry to keep you waiting

You son of a .......Never thought I would get sniped there
That's funny. The Pac-man Ghosts were the first writeup I wrote back in the 2nd round to prepare for that pick. I just never picked it.

I was pondering the Ghost picks myself, but never got around to asking whether they were acceptable or not.Well played. A wise man told me that it's always better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

24.05 Joker (Batman game series), Villain

Batman's archnemesis. He first appeared in Batman #1 in 1940 and continues to scheme against the Caped Crusader to this day. I know this isn't a comic draft, but I'm not talking about his comic role as a villain. Nor am I referring to Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger or even Cesar Romero. But I am including all of the 24 games that the Joker has been included in. Especially 2 that I would like to spotlight. Batman: The Video Game by Sunsoft for the NES and Batman: Arkham Asylum by Rocksteady Studios.

If you've ever played Batman: The Video game on the NES and gotten to the endboss (Joker), you may know that he is one of the hardest bosses in NES history. I won't spotlight anymore on the game, since it hasn't been picked.

Fast forward to Arkham Asylum. I'll try not to give out any spoilers for anyone who hasn't played the game. But the story in the game is that Batman has finally captured the Joker and is bringing him in to Arkham Asylum, but the truth is that it was all a ruse and the Joker allowed himself to be captured and is setting up a trap for the Caped Crusader. If you've played it, you know that it turns into a great game, but the stand-out from the game is the superb performance of the Joker, played by "Luke Skywalker" himself Mark Hamill, whom some of you may know has done the voice work of the Joker for the Batman Beyond series and other Batman animated episodes throughout the years.

Here are some spoiler-free clips featuring the Joker from Batman: Arkham Asylum:
