Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (1 Viewer)

Just a couple off the top of my head, may post some more later. A few of them have already been mentioned:

Genesis: ThunderForce 2, ThunderForce 3, Musha, Arnold Palmer Golf and Strider

TurboGrafix 16: Ninja Spirit (possibly the system's best game), Super Star Soldier, Klax, Galaga 90', Y's Book 1 and 2, Bonk

Now I'll have to try and find some more snubs. Most of the great arcade games were picked or mentioned already. Space Ace? Poor man's Dragon Lair...

Busy day here guys. My wife gave birth to our twins. Going to be some down time this week so I will still be judging. I want to do the categories justice by researching all the games though.

One thing I will say about the Pacman controversy from page 38-41, even though history considers Pacman Atari a monumental bad game, I see it as a bad port. It happens. You can keep the game but it probably won't rate well in the worst game ever compared to some of those contenders. But I will be fair and give ratings for each of the categories to show why I felt they ranked where they were.

I will probably have all the rankings done by the end of the week. I will post a category when I have it done though.

Holy cow, awesome

No one picked my favorite game ever.

I'm still the unofficial world record-holder for my speed run....which I have on tape, unverified by Twin Galaxies

Mazel Tov,now you really wont be able to sleep for a year, will be seeing you around the AM hours here now :excited:

Some games I have to mention that were not taken.

Tempest - Classic

Rastan - I would have had to have this game. They had this on campus my first year of college and I was able to beat this from beginning to end on 1 quarter without losing a life. Fire this up on my Mame machine from time to time.

Pengo - Put a lot of quarters in this one.

Elevator Action - This one too.

Bagman - One of the hardest games I ever played. I never even beat the first level.

Cyberball

Disappointed that we didn't include first and second generation games. Would have like to see some of these drafted and ranked

Colossal Cave Adventure - This started it all for me

Zork series

Vic20 IF series, Adventureland, The Count, Pirate Adventure, etc - these were great

Sword of Fargoal

Some from my c64 days

Choplifter

Hard Hat Mac

Beachhead I and II

Raid over Moscow

Karetka

Summer Games

Winter Games

Impossible Mission - Best c64 game of all

Montezuma's Revenge

Im giving the drafters time to reclassify any picks they want. Also waiting on Rikishi to finish. I have the puzzle category done. Just waiting on this. Then I'll do a big write up to show my results.

Other categories will come later on.

Track and Field (1983)

Rampage (1986)

Super Star Wars (or sequels)

Pikmin 2 / Pikmin

Track & Field

Ice Hockey (NES)

Pikmin 2
Elevator Action - This one too.

Colossal Cave Adventure - This started it all for me
All of these games I had queued up at some point. Really had Colossal Cave Adventure ready to go for Flex game but didn't do it. Thought about Pikmin for puzzle. I thought I was the only one who ever owned Super Star Wars... never did own Jedi though. I have them on my Wii console but need a controller to play them. One game I thought would get picked for the Arcade and/or Sports is: Super Chexx

To say I am disappointed that Pac-Man, by some, is considered a port, is unfathomable. However, in my attempt to be equal to all and fair, I have searched the internet tubes to find a "better" worst game. I have found such a thing and unfortunately, or fortunately, I have never played it. I did find many lists where bad games were ranked that I recall playing, very few did I own though, so that is a good thing. That said, I am going to switch out Pac-Man for the following game.

Ethnic Cleansing - Worst Game

Worst Game Ethnic Cleansing - PC (25.12)

Flex Video Game(1) Zelda II: The Adventure's of Link - NES (22.02)

Flex Video Game(2) Bubble Bobble - NES (27.12)

All of you other teams are vying for 2nd place. On an island, alone, for life, my games rule over all others. There is something for everyone and all of you need to bow down to my team for its pure awesomeness.

For worst game, I also gave NFL Head Coach heavy consideration. Maybe the '09 version was better (didn't play it), but I thought the first one was horrible.

darn it one was..anyway here are 2 of my picks

Strategy-- Chessmaster 2000 (apple II)--Chess and strategy go hand in hand and this was a classic.

Flex--- Beatmania --- I gotta be honest I royally sucked at this game, but was always amazed at how freakishly good some people were. This game always had a crowd around it in its heyday.

I gotta research my last pick a bit more....

Final pick--- I gotta be honest while I loved this game I kind of didn't want to take it because other ones like it were already taken and it has been talked about already....please don't hold any of that against me though, because this thing needs to end and besides it is a great game.

6th generation-- Grand Theft Auto--Vice City (PS2)

Platform - Rachet and Clank:Going Commando.

Don't know were Twisted Metal would fit, but the 1st 2 and BLACK (PS2) were bad ###.

In fact I would probably have SweetTooth as my Villain. Dude is creepy and plays the hero at the end killing the real bad guy himself (Calypso the founder of the twisted metal arena.)

Sweet tooth (Black) Story -

Was very close to taking Twisted Metal, as well as SweetTooth for best villian

Still my favorite of all the GTAs.

I will have the Third Gen Judging in by Wednesday. Need to lay out all the games on the floor and let my 2 year old just pick at random.

Am I the only fan of Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball for SNES? My cousin and I played that game A TON. I know the Sports category was deep, but was kind of surprised this wasn't taken.
This would have been my sports choice. The two sports games that had the most impact on me (and almost ending my college career before it began) were Ken Griffey Baseball and Madden '93.I still consider my 161-1 record with the Toronto Blue Jays as my best video game accomplishment ever.

Arcade: Crystal Castles was a cool game with the roller ball. Paperboy with the handlebars.

Turbo-16: Military Madness

Genesis: NBA Live 95' was great, Coach K pretty good too...Maryland had Joe Smith, Badgers had Finley and Rashard Griffith

Anything Wing Commander. Wasn't this a hugely popular PC game series?
Did X-Wing and TIE Fighter get passed over again too? TIE Fighter and WC were 2 of the most popular PC games in the early-mid '90's. I'm guessing since nobody plays flight sims anymore, they have forgotten how big that genre was for a long time. TIE Fighter was in the top 10 games of all time as listed by IGN a few years back.

 Glad to hear I wasn't the only one. And 161-1 in a baseball game is pretty ridiculous.
