Many hours (and quarters) wasted on this one. With 2 arcade spots to fill, had to get one of the best ones out there.
It's funny - I can never find old-school games in most arcades... except for Galaga. Staying power is impressive (I'm still good for 15 levels or so)3.06 - Yo Mama selects:

The Chuck E Cheese here only has one old-school arcade game in it and it's a Galaga / *name omitted for until drafted* combo. I always pay it a visit when I'm in there. I don't understand why the founder of Atari creates a restaurant with an arcade in it and won't have more arcade classics in it.It's funny - I can never find old-school games in most arcades... except for Galaga. I thought he would be too.Figured larry would be around tonight.
Of course they decided to make the new Pac-Man female. After going through names, like Miss Pac-Man and Mrs. Pac-Man, they decided on Ms. Pac-Man.*Quote is by Doug Macrae, The Ultimate History of Video Games, 2001We thought we were being very clever, convincing them that we were going to launch this enhancement kit, and I think we probably could have gotten their blessing.
One thing we did not take into account was that Bally had just successfully made Pac-Man the biggest-selling video game of all time. Their production lines had just shut off and they had nothing to put into production after that. They did not have the next game.
I believe Dave [Marofske] was the one who came up with the idea of saying "Well, guys, how about we talk sequel rather than you selling it as an enhancement kit?"

Maybe, maybe not, however the game is not the same if Sephiroth is any different. His character helped revive and rebuild a great franchise. He may not be the most devilish kind of character but the story is what makes it great and he is a part of that. Sure, another FF villain might play a role in this however, Sephiroth has more allure and is more memorable.over-rated <clap-clap-clapclapclap>Is he a top 10 villain? I am as big a fan as anyone can be with FFIII however FFVII moved the franchise from kiddie play to gaming. Playstation showed what it can do with a game such as FF with the three-discs it took to tell the whole story for FFVII. I am not going to make a claim for its greatness or anything however I am a huge fan of innovation, origination and replayability. FFVII helped innovate gaming and helped remake FF. I won't say the story is better than FFIII because they are much different.I love RPGs (especially JRPGs)...I just don't understand the FFVII love... I DO NOT get it... I've never been able to understand it...Is it a good game? Yeah... But it is NOT in the same league as Final Fantasy VI... Its just not... and I have never been able to understand all the love its always gotten...

the main reason that your statement is wrong, IMO, is because a great franchise doesn't need to be "rebuilt and revived" after the greatest game in the franchise's history.See? This is it... This is why Sephiroth (and FFVII) gets the love.It isn't because its great, it isn't because it was the best story or the most engaging...Do you know why it is?Because it had pretty FMV sequences where FFVI didn't have the technology to do FMV. FFVI is NOT a "kiddie game", any game where the entire world is actually destroyed halfway through the game is NOT something a child should be playing with...I am as big a fan as anyone can be with FFIII however FFVII moved the franchise from kiddie play to gaming. Super Mario World didn't need to be great because the Mario Franchise was in ruins after the greatness of Super Mario 3... That makes no sense...
You rebuild after bad games (which is basically what Final Fantasy should have been doing after just about every FF game after 8... Some were decent, but none were legendary like 6 and 7 were...)
if you're saying "decent" is not close enough for how good games were after 7... you're right... lol That is some hyperbole... lolI strongly disagree with this, but not on the one you think I do.Maybe, maybe not, however the game is not the same if Sephiroth is any different. Well, you have to remember that Final Fantasy VII was the first game that Square released after they severed ties with Nintendo and signed with Sony. Nintendo could not produce the game so Square moved it to Playstation. This game helped move from cartridge to discs. The games, like life, grow with its consumers. A game with cartoon characters and pixels want to be played by adults as they grow. Not many want to remain in the "kiddie" world. Stupid quote limit.Didn't mean to bold the decent part. I believe there are two all timers in the Final Fantasy series. I'm sorry, but Final Fantasy VII's characters are MORE immature than FF VI's... Due to spotlighting, I will not name any, however, FFIII is a kid's game. I love it, don't get me wrong, but it is not a game that a 40-year old (minus larry) will play. Well, if everyone gets their picks in before I go to my apt. in the morning, I'll make my pick before I leave. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until I return.I PM'ed Blue but it looks like this is where we stop tonight. I was hoping to make my 4th round pick. Oh well.

Truce for now but I am not really going to debate the merits of why FFVII is more adult themed than FFIII. It just is and using swears and alluding to other things does not make it more adult themed, if that is your contention. FFIII is child's play compared to games nowadays and it is fun but it is fun in a childish way. That is all. It is like a Disney story video game that paints a pretty picture. Its a good story but is child oriented.you know what?We need to have this discussion later... Way too many games and characters being alluded to that could get drafted...Truce for now?
I will look to PM people but I also work second shift (central time). I am thinking 2-hours might be a bit low in the early rounds, no?Just a reminder for everyone. The 2 hour clock starts Monday at 8AM EST with whoever is OTC at that time.

Its what we sort of agreed on in the proposal thread but I don't have any experience on how much they usually have an effect on a big draft like this or not.I will look to PM people but I also work second shift (central time). Any chance we can make the start time 8 AM Pacific for those of us enjoying the 80 degree weather on the left coast?I'll deal with it either way, just wondering.Just a reminder for everyone. The 2 hour clock starts Monday at 8AM EST with whoever is OTC at that time.

Na, although that would work better for me. Its just the clock is in place to try and stimulate people making their picks quicker. If we move it to 11 AM EST, then we could have a possible 3 picks made in a day before people start getting into the night, where there's a lesser chance of people being around to make picks.Any chance we can make the start time 8 AM Pacific for those of us enjoying the 80 degree weather on the left coast?I'll deal with it either way, just wondering.Just a reminder for everyone. Thanks for the write-up..I am just gonna add my reason for the selection. First I will concur that Pac-Man desrved it's top spot..it is an iconic game. However, it cannot be denied that Ms. Pac-Man was a much much better game (is also the top selling arcade game evah). In the early 80's my father used to take me down to the local pub and I would spend most of my time drinking root beers and playing Ms. Pac-Man. Naturally, I got pretty good...but I never did reach level 256, which is unplayable.rikishiboy's pick
3.11 Ms. Pac-Man, Arcade
I'll also add a write-up for him. He can add one later if he likes. This one is a little longer.
Originally conceived as a bootlegged hack of Pac-Man called Crazy Otto, Ms Pac-Man is one of the most popular video games of all time.
Midway was impatiently waiting for Namco to release its sequel to Pac-Man, when they met a couple of guys from MIT, who found a way to make a living by building PAL boards that would fit onto the circuit boards of existing games and modify game play, basically hacking or modding them, as we call it today. They had planned on taking their enhancement kit for Pac-Man and selling it. But what they got surprised them further.

Most draft clocks around here have a 1 hour clock. The ADD video game crowd in here shouldn't have a problem keeping up with that if the old farts in the novel draft can.Just wondering from people who have been in other drafts around this size. How long is the clock usually for people to make their pick?

I am in both. I have also done a lot of these style drafts (even ran several) however, this novel draft is the first one I entered with the FBG standard 1 hour clock. I was always afraid because I live in Japan...however, it has worked out surprisingly well for me. Of course I also have not read a lot of the novels selected, which I am sure helps me out. Most draft clocks around here have a 1 hour clock.
