Harvin and Chilly had to be separated (1 Viewer)

Part of me is almost hoping they lose today, because I think it would be the final nail in Childress' coffin.

Based on what I heard today from Ed Werder re the Harvin thing and what he says the players were telling him, i can't see how Ziggy keeps Childress after this game regardless.

I can't believe he wasn't fired mid-week considering Ziggy was reportedly very angry about how the Moss situation was handled.

Are you suggesting its going to take more?
It's past the point of no return, but Wilf hasn't pulled the trigger, probably because he jumped the gun on giving him a guaranteed contract last year. Wilf apparently was PO'd Chilly went for the TD last week instead of taking a FG, and if he's second guessing his coaching decisions and his personnel decisions, then why is he still working for you?

This is exactly why. Which tells us that both Wilf and Chilly are morons.

Scotty, I think the contract has to have something to do with it as well. I know that most teams honor the contracts bc its hard to prove cause, and Childress technically had the right to release Moss as he is contractually allowed final say on the 53 man roster. I wonder if Ziggy was hoping for something like this Harvin argument to help give him cause?

I know I'm a little hungover, so take this suggestion with a grain of salt...

Why doesn't Wilf hire another Head Coach (or promote within) & DEMOTE Childress to a much lower position? If he fired him, he'd have to pay him anyway ( 4 million for the next 3 or 4 years). Maybe Childress would quit?

Even if his contract allowed it, it seems like a terrible idea to keep the destructive force in the organization and try to force him to quit by removing his teeth.

Furthermore, a coaching search in this offseason -- one in which OTAs might be sacrificed during a lockout, in which free agency might happen in a late-summer whirlwind, and in which training camps could be truncated to a few weeks in August/September -- could easily end up causing more damage beyond 2011.

Jones and his son, Stephen, have thought this all through, constantly recalibrating the near-and-long-term potential risks and rewards that would come with making a change in this murkiest of labor situations.

Jones referred to the "serious challenges" faced by changing coaches midseason, and the need to avoid any "emotional" or "knee-jerk" thinking. He admitted that CBA issues played a role, speaking about 2011 as "a year where we've got ambiguity as far as our season."

Ah, I see.... ;)

But which way does that cut? If I'm an owner, I'd want a coach on board earlier rather than later in that murky CBA situation to work with him to put a good program in place in light of the uncertainty. The alternative would be to wait until the proverbial last minute and then rush to get it done, which would not be overstating the way that it could very well happen given the last minute nature of resolutions of labor impasses. Often these issues go to the eleventh hour, before training camps open or seasons start, or perhaps even into seasons, before they're resolved because the added pressure of the calendar helps push everyone towards resolution. These are offseason considerations, however, and are not the same thing as advocating for the firing Chilly or Wade midseason. I don't think that that analysis changes due to the CBA issues. Childress if he's fired will go due to a team mutiny, which may well already be rolling. Wade's situation is more stable, but I could see Jerry deciding to see what he's got in Garrett with the remainder of the season. Those are criteria that those owners would be considering in any event.

This is so surreal. Literally 8 games ago they were in the NFC Championship game...with the same coach who may now be more hated by fans than any coach in sports history. I don't think I've ever seen a coach fall so far, so fast.

His team was successful but I think most outside of the Vikings front office saw the team succeeding in spite of Childress not because of him.

Yeah, he was never very well liked around here...

He wasn't that high even then. Not an epic fall from mediocre to highly questionable.

So the real question is,,,,, Are the Vikes gonna lay down today ? Or do you still keep their players in your lineup. The Vikes D is listed as the top D by Footballguys this week. That still apply ?

Regardless how motivated or unmotivated they might be, the fact is there aren't a lot of Vikings worth starting.Outside of Peterson, it would have to be a very deep league to consider any other Viking for a starting lineup today.

Edit to add: The D seems like a decent matchup but defensive performances seem like such a crap shoot week to week that I don't give them much thought. :lmao:

That would be an indictment to the character of the Vikings players if they lay down. And as far as I can see, with a few exceptions (Moss is gone, and Harvin is 1 player), this is a team filled with highly professional player. None of them will lay down.

 i.e. What's the over/under on when Childress will waste a team challenge and timeout in Week 9? Halfway through the first quarter? And what are the odds the Vikings could have used that timeout at the end of the half/game? 50%? And what are the odds that the team could have potentially used a 3rd challenge (after two successful ones)? 5-10%?Childress' play-calling has been hated since season 1. His game management and clock management has been hated since season 1. It's more that players and fans have tolerated his deficiencies while they were willing than it is being this sudden turn out of left field. Favre and others were critical of Childress in-season last year! And there have been rumbling from other players about Childress for years. It's just now it's coming out in the national media, so people whose expertise in all-things Purple consists of Sunday NFL Countdown and Rotoworld, think that being critical of Childress is something new. Or that players and fans have "suddenly" turned on him.

I think if Wilf doesn't get Chilly out of there he stands a real chance of having his coach hospitalized by his entire team.

Does it make me a bad person for wishing Harvin would of did what the all really wanted to do, including most the fans?
I've read several of your posts in various threads. That's not why you're a bad person. It's just a symptom of a larger problem you have.

Looks that way.Owners are afraid to fire Coach's that have any years left on their contracts due to the?? about next season. They don't want to be stuck paying two coaches.

SUCKS.. As I'm 99% sure Childress would have been gone earlier this week.

Either that or Wilf already has a deal with LA and he is playing the "major League" card.
