After watching season one again recently on HBO, I picked up the first book two weeks ago. I'm now half way through A Clash of Kings. Really enjoying these books and really looking forward to season two on HBO. Hoping I can finish the third book before April 1 too.

The subsequent posts made me feel a bit better, but man your post made me feel like a slow reader. I started A Game of Thrones maybe six weeks ago, and I'm about a fifth of the way through A Clash of Kings now. And I've been spending what feels like a lot of time with these books.

I don't consider myself a fast reader, I'm just between jobs right now, so I get to spend 2-3 hours a day reading. Funny thing is I haven't read a book for about 20 years. Many nights I'll knock out 4-5 chapters before I sleep, I just kind of keep going because it's so good. 200 pages left in CoC and the next book should arrive shortly.

It's hard to tell exactly how many days were involved, but IIRC soon after they returned to Winterfell with the miller's boys Ramsay left to bring his troops back to sack Winterfell, so he didn't really have time/resources to pursue Bran/Rickon then. After the sack he went home, probably in anticipation of some sort of Ironmen counterstrike (since they were still abroad in the area) rather than risking getting caught in the open with his roughly 200 troops. By the time he got back and situated he probably figured the trail had gone cold and he needed to re-consolidate his power base. Then he got busy preparing for his marriage, establishing Bolton dominance over the North, etc. I doubt he's forgotten about them, he might just assume they're no longer a threat, or he's planning to deal with them later. Since he ends up getting married to fake Arya, its in his best interest to let everyone think the other Starks are dead, so he maybe hasn't told his daddy. Then again daddy isn't exactly captain scruples, so it may be a moot point - Roose would rather have his ******* inheriting Winterfell anyway, so he'd be as likely to extinguish Bran and Rickon as Ramsay would, so telling daddy might not have hurt.

I'd like to believe Skaagos gets woven into the plot somehow. You can't just have Shaggydog drop out like that. Similarly with Nymeria - those wolves have to come back into play, don't they?

And Arya has been warging in her and even pulled Catelyn's body from the river which allowed the brothers without banners to resurrect her. Shaggydog I assume is with Rickon still off in Skaggos. I guess we will find that out next time we hear from Davos.I am wondering if there is some weird twist where Rickon ends up the actual heir to Winterfell but all this drama he has had to undergo (and he already is seemingly angry and unstable through Shaggydog) makes him more of a Ramsey Bolton type than a Stark.

I see some sort of Targaryen-Stark alliance to reclaim the Seven Kingdoms at some point soon, maybe in the next couple of books. It's being setup as whoever can defeat the White Walkers during the Winter will rule, and I severely doubt that is anyone currently in the Seven Kingdoms.

I figured that Nymeria is terrorizing the riverlands and it seems obvious Shaggydog is with Rickon and Osha in Skagos. Summer is with Bran, Ghost is with Jon. Lady and Grey Wind - valar morghulis. My complaint is that Martin has basically consigned Ricon, Shaggydog, and Nymeria to the periphery for most of the story since book one. It seems a certainty they still have a big part to play, so it's a tad aggravating they get less lines than clods like Poderick Payne and Quentyn "Toast" Martel.

There's a menu you can turn on while you're watching the episodes. When a character's on screen or when some piece of the history of Westeros is referenced, it'll pop up and you can play a short video explaining all the backstory for that item.Like, whenever Robert refers to Lyanna, you can go to that menu and watch a 5 minute clip narrated by Robert describing the events leading up to the rebellion, or one about the history of the Stark family.

I went and bought the Blu-ray for season 1 (was thinking the $34.99 price isn't going to last forever, and it'll likely go up in the future) even though I don't have a Blu-ray player yet (just recently got a TV worthy of getting the player.) Now it sits their mocking me cause I can't play it.

I'm halfway through Storm of Swords now, and watching the previews is even more exciting than before now that I recognize what the scenes in the previews are from reading the books. I'll have to decide whether to just enjoy season 2 without starting book 4 or to keep reading.
