Season 3 and 4 were picked up earlier this year, both are 10 episodes, and together comprise the 3rd book - for the most part. Producers talked about liberally moving from book-to-book - pulling some things forward, pushing others back.

I have not seen anything on the timing, but nothing to suggest it won't start at the same time next year.

Looks to me as the Hound got saved by the bells, Bronn had the drop on him. Then Bronn saves his skin on the beach, and proceeds to slice up another 2 guys in the same frame. My one buddy thinks the Hound cowered at that point after seeing Bronn wasn't a man to be trifled with. I told him it was the flames and some post traumatic stress that broke him, but it was interesting timing nonetheless.

hey fellas I'm pretty sure spoilers will piss off people.

I haven't read one word of the books but I'm a big fan of the show.I couldn't give a rat's ### if people talk about the book here. 1. It seems like the show doesn't follow book enough to keep even the people that have read the books guessing.2. Even if the entire show was "spoiled" it wouldn't deter me from watching it.

Previously reading the books has not deterred me from watching the show. Actually, I subscribed to HBO specifically to watch Game of Thrones. However, there are some events in the story that I think are best experienced without warning, e.g. Ned's beheading.Enjoy.

I didn't start watching season 1 until it was over. I knew about Ned's fate but it didn't lessen my enjoyment one bit.

I don't recall him being that low on the list. I thought he was a near unstoppable death machine, though not in the Jaime league (who I'd take over the Mountain). The show doesn't give him much in the way of how feared and badass he is, which IMO diminishes the reaction he had to the fire and his protective stance on Sansa. Hopefully Yarp gets a chance to show his acting chops.

The kid playing Joffrey did a better job than anyone in this episode, IMO. Great range from cocky arrogance to scared little boy.

curious as to what you found off about those scenes?

It was supposed to be an invasion of an army of tens of thousands. Even assuming the wildfire took out half their forces Stannis still acknowledges that thousands will die. Then there are what? Four ladders used to scale the walls? Stannis and one or two other guys make it to the top. Maybe 60-100 total warriors are on screen at any given time (the editing and cuts make it seem like more but it's just the same people in different outfits). I'm not complaining, I think it was a wise decision not to waste production dollars on unnecessary actions sequences. But, beyond the wildfire, that battle was on par with the battle from the series finale of Buffy.ETA: There was nothing cheesy about Starship Troopers. That #### could happen man!

Agreed. Found her the least interesting Stark child up to this episode but they are doing an excellent job of maturing her. She may become one of the more interesting characters as the series develops. Never read the books so I really have no idea if that will happen.

That is one of the best parts of GoT. They way the show blurs the line between good and bad, honorable/dishonorable, likable and despised. Sansa and Cersei are two characters that I absolutely hated for most of season 1. Now, I find them two of the most interesting and enjoyable characters on the show. Then you have someone like Cat, who in theory, should be one of the most sympathetic and clear "good guys", but she is dumb, naive, and I just can't stand her. Theon was annoying and arrogant and just when he seemed to win fan's over, he turns heel in the ultimate way. Great job by the writers and actors in all those key roles. By the end of last year, Dany had become a great hero and mega fan favorite. As season 2 is ending, she is reminding me more and more of her obnoxious, self-absorbed brother.

Interesting. IMO Cersei and Sansa were easy to dislike for dramatically different reasons. Cersei was an evil #### and Sansa was an oblivious, naive but arrogant child. Not sure they are comparable. Cersei has been interesting, if evil, from the start but Sansa was boring and obvious. I think you are referring to Catelyn Stark and Daenerys and I hardly find Catelyn to be naive; she's selfish but cold and calculating and even ruthless when necessary. And Daenerys has perhaps become less sympathetic but, frankly, I kinda saw her evolution into a more cold and calculating leader as an obvious evolution but I doubt she ever becomes the psychopath her brother was, in fact I see her evolution as a character and Sansa's to be very similar (but I haven't read the books, so I could easily be off base on this one).

Me too. Love the old school attitude/honor, and the fight scene in the pyramid in DoD was one of my favorite scenes.

That's one of my gripes with WDCROB's rankings, how could Loras Tyrell even be included after losing a fight with a girl? In the series they made Selmy out to be plenty tough as both Jaime Lannister and Robert Baratheon paid him props, but it seems he was put out to pasture. Not sure how he'd hold up in a fight in his advanced age against the younger bucks.Quorin Halfhand? How could he be with 1 and 1/2 paws?

Saturday night I was at a BBQ. As it died down there were about 8 people left, a couple of chicks and very multi racial. There was a 30 minute long debate/discussion about GoT. I sat back and thought that when I read book over a decade ago there was no way I could have imagined that scene. This is a phenomena. And it's awesome.

I was surprised that it happened. It was Geoffrey's guard, no? I would have thought there would be a plot point leading up to that rather than them just springing it on us. I am also not sure if we should really have known that specific guard from a previous episode but he didn't ring a bell for me.

It was a holy #### moment for me too. I thought it was a through and through and Tyrion's head was going to slide off down the cutline. I am just not sure what there is to discuss about it. I am hardly suggesting that I have a 360 perspective on it and would love to hear you tip off a discussion with a point about the scene that I had not considered. To me it seemed pretty straight forward and I didn't see much subtext. Whaddya got? Let's discuss.

I was surprised that it happened. It was Geoffrey's guard, no? I would have thought there would be a plot point leading up to that rather than them just springing it on us. I am also not sure if we should really have known that specific guard from a previous episode but he didn't ring a bell for me.

It was a member of the Kingsguard. Tyrion addresses him as Ser Mandon earlier in this episode. I don't think he'd appeared in any previous episodes.

I don't remember Stannis being such a badass in the books. I guess I was surprised to seem him leading the attack over the walls. Also, why is no one in here talking about who sliced Tyrion's face apart?

I thought it was one of the king's guard, not surprising IMO as Geoffrey considers Tyrion to be a threat. What should we be talking about?

That's what I thought. I found it surprising that they didn't give us any set up prior to that betrayal.

Exactly what i thought too. i re-watched it a few times to try and see how deep they made it (well, i guess it isn't nerd for this thread, but it felt "nerdy" at the time)

I am not sure how the book handles that but he has definitely heard the rumors and discussed them with Cersei right before he had all of Robert Baratheon's suspected ******* children killed.

I got beat down for saying this before, but the only two big draws HBO got going right now are GOT and boardwalk. Unless I miss my guess, they will turn around season 3 faster then 18 months.

I am right there backing you Ref. I never got into True Blood. Maybe because I am just so sick of the whole vampire thing.

I was interested in Veep and put it on DVR but after the first show took it off because it was horrible.

Girls is annoyingly horrible.

Game of Thrones and Boardwalk are awesome shows and carrying the load right now though The Newsroom looks very promising and with Sorkin involved is most likely going to be right up there with Game of Thrones and Boardwalk.
