Most of the Brienne chapters in 4 were pretty boring and seemingly pointless. Those really made the book drag for me.

I liked book 5.

Though I think he should have introduced the whole Connington/Young Griff plot and the Golden Company much sooner. Maybe they'll do that in the show - that way Sophia Vergara will be a bit closer to her prime when she's playing Septa Lemore.

As long as they maintain the quality, I'm in favor of HBO taking their time. But the 9 month wait between seasons is painful; almost as bad as waiting for the books.

Why do you think Arya is important to the storyline? I think its just some wierd tangent that Martin got on and cannot seem to end it. He has stated numerous times that he put way too many "balls in the air" and doesnt know how to wrap up certain storylines. I am assuming Arya is one because she has no interaction or advancement to the other characters or main plot.

Seems like the free cities are more the arena of action than Westeros in DOD. I think she will return to reclaim the throne of House Stark rather than Bran or Rickon. I see her in a Bloddy Mary type role, most likely taking up cause with Danaerys once she finally gets off her ### and returns to Westeros to claim her throne.

I can see this. They make a bunch of references to Nymeria in Arya's storyline - wasn't she a joan of arc style female conqueror or something in the GOT universe? I'm sure there will be some parallels developed there.

Read a Martin interview years back where he stated Arya was one of his favorites to write. She will have some large role. Personally Arya, Bran, and Jamie are my 3 fav storylines.

No, she did burn leeches with kings blood to kill Joffrey, Robb, and Balon - but there were no shadow children like the one's that killed Renly and Penrose.

We learn that it is a Faceless man in one of the Arya chapters. A dwarf woman tells The Brotherhood without Banners stuff she sees in her dreams in exchange for Tom O'Sevens to sing her a song. She mentions that a man without a face kills the old squid.

Good episode. We knew it would be a let down after the past two weeks. Sets up the rest if the season nicely.I'm very interested in next week. GRRM wrote it and there are several non-book scenes/storylines next week, so I'm curious about his take.

I didn't think it was a let down at all, I was transfixed even by the mundane. The visuals of the ascent and pinnacle of the Wall really helped make the world big and coming after the LF vs Varys scene seemed to be like the passing into the eye of the storm. A brief moment of sunshine and calm before Hell is unleashed on any and everyone and every thing.

One thing I am quite upset about not seeing is Slayer. Seems they're setting it up but it's already well past when it should've happened. But I guess that'll be part of the Unleashing that's probably going to start next week in the episode that Martin the sick-#### character killer/torturer wrote.

Cold Hands. I don't know that his nickname is necessary for the story. He and Gilly will end up confronting a White Walker at some point and will also meet Cold Hands at the same time. Perhaps Cold Hands even helps them defeat the White Walkers and wights they encounter so that Sam and Gilly know he's on their side. It looks like this is happening in Episode 8.

Apparently GRRM has already delivered his script for Episode 2 of Season 4. That might mean that

Roz was not in the books. She is a TV only character that has been used to give some backstory on other characters, and move the plot along. Yes, she was killed because Littlefinger figured out that she was spying on him for Varys.

A couple of scenes from last night's episode that I don't recall happening in the books. Granted, it has been a while since I read Book 3:

Melisandre meeting up with Thoros and crew (and meeting face to face with Arya).

And the brief shot of a hooker that Joffrey shot up with his cross bow. (BTW - was that the same hooker who has been giving Varys info?)

I don't remember this from the books. Is my memory off?

I don't think Arya ever met the Melisandre. They're using Gendry as Edrick Storm. So the they made that scene for the red priestess (and Stannis) to get someone with royal blood.
