Gotta be this
Again I wish you didn't have me on ignore, because that is an awesome reference.

For those who don't know, Rosie Grier (of the Fearsome Foursome) was in this terrible terrible movie in which his head was grafted onto a white bigot. I can't even remember the title but it's considered one of the worst films of all time.

Other interesting fact: while still a football player, and before he became an actor, Rosie Grier served as Robert Kennedy's personal bodyguard on the night that RFK was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in West Los Angeles. That was in 1968, on the night of the California primary which Kennedy won. The assassin, Sirhan Sirhan, was an Islamic radical.
Sirhan Sirhan was a Jordanian Christian by birth and dabbled with other Western religions as an adult.

The Ambassador wasn't in West LA either. It was located in what today is K-town.

...and Rosey (not Rosie) Grier was guarding Bobby Kennedy's wife, not Bobby Kennedy. He was also retired from football.

He did actually wrestle the gun away from Sirhan Sirhan and stuck it in his pocket.

So only the five bolded statements in Tim's three sentence factoid were wrong.

You guys are right; I was going by memory and didn't look it up first. My bad.

How are people going to actually get to the games? When I spent a week there it took literally an hour to go 4 miles. And we weren't headed to the same place as 80,000 people.

Sounds like a true nightmare.

Why the 405 freeway of course. Right around LAX, it's ALWAYS easy to get around.

How much do you want to bet that the Monday night game of opening weekend next season will be in LA? At least that or the Sunday night one.

Oh, it won't be easy, but, the same location hosted the Lakers for forever. At Sunday morning is much better than NBA weeknight gametime. With the late West Coast home game start time it won't be too bad.

Metro is already talking of adding rail/shuttle options. The Metro to Staples for LA Kings games is heavenly.
The Forum sucked to drive to. I used to drive up to Hollywood Park from San Diego on Sundays (for those not familiar, the new stadium is being built where the racetrack used to be). That would have been a 2pm start. Took 2 1/2 hours from San Diego, most of that once I got to LA. That was 15-20 years ago.

Jim Everett- Jim Rome called him "Chrissie"

And he chased Rome around the set. Classic moment!
You forgot Flipper $^$^$%&^%9! Anderson, he ripped the Saints up for 300+ yards an NFL receiving record which may or may not stand, knocking the Saints out of the playoffs. This was back when the Saints never made the playoffs.

Actually actually the Saints got their first playoff win ever against the St. Louis Rams.

Actually, skrew the L.A. Rams.
Wasnt Jim Everett also a Saint QB?PS I could never forget Flipper, a Bruin.
Yes Jimbo played for the Saints, he was still flinging it pretty good, great arm, beautiful throws, but he was as advertised, on the field dumb as a box of rocks and was apt to take the occasional dive or show happy feet under pressure. Still he was probably one of the franchises best 3 QBs up to that point, maybe the best until well..... you know only the greatest fg QB to ever play the game showed up.
I always liked Bobby Hebert. And Aaron Brooks had his moments.
AB's moment was when he beat the Rams in the playoffs. He never had another moment.
Same reason we have the platypus.

The lulz

Monday night games will be pure hell to get to. People will need to take half the day off to have any chance of getting to their seats in time for kick off.

At least for next year the Coliseum is easy enough access using the metro. Inglewood, not so much. time to go buy parking lots in Inglewood.

Dodgers and Angels sell out when good road teams are in town. We used to get a group together to go see the Yankees every time they were in town, but the teams wised up to us... in order to get group tickets to a Yankees game, they make you buy ticket packages that include other games with lesser teams.

LA is a great city for road teams. I could see a lot of good-attendance games with the right visitors.

7 home games next year: Arizona, SF, and Seattle (every year) has 2 playoff teams in it, then ATL, CAR, BUF and MIA. With Carolina that's three playoff teams that'll be here next season, and Cam will be a big splash in his first game here. The only unfortunate thing is they miss out on a huge game with the NY Giants by having it in London. I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL tried to move this using the relocation as an excuse. Giants in LA would be big.

2017, in addition to SF, AZ, and SEA, we get PHI, WAS, HOU, and IND for sure, plus one NFC south team TBD. PHI and WAS have fans here.

2018, KC, MIN, GB, and SD, plus one NFC east team. GB might be a good one, many fans in LA. The game vs. SD for the bragging rights to the city will be the attendance test.

2019, NO, TB, BAL, CIN and one NFC North team. Now those teams I'm not sure of having big local fanbases.

But as a whole, Inglewood is a good place to host some "we never get to see our team" locals & tourists.
Thanks much for posting the schedules. Sucks that the Steelers won't come in 2019 though.

Being a native St. Louisan who fondly remembers the Greatest Show on Turf days, my anger over Kroenke butt-f*cking the city went away pretty damn quickly, actually. Since Kroenke took majority ownership, he left the fans feeling cold on the field and away from it. When you look at it, he essentially took the plot from Major League and made it work for him: demoralizing the fanbase and sucking enough to the point where a move to a nice stadium in a warm place would be do-able. Hell, he hatcheted the market so much, even Mayor Francis Slay doesn't even want the NFL anymore.

Fine. Whatever. More money and fandom for the Cardinals and Blues. Plus maybe the MLS will give St. Louis a strong look now. The Sounders took off after the Supersonics left in Seattle and St. Louis has always been soccer-crazy.

Plus, before the Rams even came to St. Louis, I was a Packers fan and they're always on free national TV, so I'm back with the Pack I guess.

The Rams are from Cleveland before LA. They won the NFL Championship and abandoned Cleveland in the very next year. Victory parade might as well have been in moving trucks.
"Hey, where are they going?"

It's fascinating. When the football Cardinals left STL, the Bidwells built up so much animosity in the city, the citizenry was practically shoving them out the door when they threatened to move to Phoenix. Now that club had nowhere near the success the Rams had in STL (IIRC, the Gridbirds didn't win a playoff game their entire stay in STL) and there was nowhere near as much money at stake, but I don't recall a huge citywide effort to keep them.

I could see MLS thriving in STL. Huge youth club sport. When I was a kid the MISL team, the Steamers, outdrew the Blues in the same building for a few years.

Dear lord yes. Stan is all about the money. Ask any fan of any team that he owns.

Big Red were in St. Louis a little longer than the Rams, but it is eerie how similar the circumstances of their moves are. Both teams were mired in mediocrity for so long and both played in subpar stadiums (Busch was no one's idea of an ideal football stadium).

I have fond memories growing up before the Rams were even a thought to come here of Daryl Doran and the St. Louis Ambush playing games in the old Barn as well as in the early days of the Kiel/Scottrade Center. Fun times. St. Louis really is a soccer crazy town. My stepmom's family is nuts about U.S. soccer and couldn't care less if I bring up English Premier League or any other soccer. You put a stadium in the burbs (Fenton would be ideal if the Meremac didn't flood so much) and you have a winner on your hands.

Man, those were good times. Those Steamers games were awesome to go to in the early 80s. :hifive:
Whenever I hear "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" by McFadden & Whitehead, I'm immediately transformed to the Checkerdome getting ready to watch Tony "Pocket Rocket" Glavin and Don Ebert up front, with the impenetrable Slobo Ilijevski in goal.

I don't think I could love you more without having crossing the line.
Thank you for your kind words. The feeling is mutual.

After the Bears made "The Super Bowl Shuffle", there was a a rash of bad rap videos made by pro and college teams across the country. The Raiders and Cowboys each made one (if anyone finds them on YouTube, please share it), I'm sure there are others. The trend was big enough for SNL to do a skit about it. I usually kick off college football season with Florida State's Seminole Rap featuring Deion Sanders and Sammie Smith, among others of less rap acumen.

I honestly get the frustration for the Rams owners having lived in Missouri my whole life and in the St. Louis area for about 7 years.

St. Louis is a baseball city first and foremost. And the support for the Blues is pretty great as well. For an NFL team to be the third banana in their own city among the core sports fans is tough. Also, the majority of the NFL fans in Missouri are Chiefs fans. I'm sure the Illinois side leans to the Bears and there just isn't a lot of extended fan base for them.
This would make some sense if the LA Rams weren't behind the Lakers and Dodgers in LA.
and USC & UCLA etc
Rams would probably go third. The Chargers would be a fair amount lower than the Rams though. Their fan base doesn't extend much past Orange County.Lakers

Dodgers

Rams

Angels

USC/UCLA

Kings

Clippers
I would put USC above the Angels and UCLA. I hate it but they get a lot more attention.
If the Rams were good every year, they'd be #1. Let's not kid ourselves.

Yes! And let's not forget Steve Pecher being a pest back there on defense.

I'm thrilled that the Rams are coming back to LA, and I really believed the Inglewood site made the most sense. For awhile I was thinking downtown LA by the Staples Center would be best to continue the revival of downtown LA with restaurants, mixed use development, entertainment, hotels, etc. But just not enough space to make it work. I hated the old Irwindale "let's build it on a rock quarry" idea and never liked the Carson idea. The South Bay crows would have liked it, but I don't even like going to the Home Depot Center or whatever it's called much. Took my kids to the go kart place in Carson a bunch over the years - just never saw the appeal.

So much potential at the Inglewood site. The Forum has been rejuvenated by the MSG folks. Great place to see concerts, though I'm still pissed they put the rows so close together with less leg room than row 44 in a typical United plane. But I digress. The land at the former Hollywood Park and surrounding acreage is perfect. Let's face it - anywhere in LA is not great for traffic. But it's as good as any. Sunday's won't be terrible. I'll probably take PCH like I go to LAX. Teams traveling will love it, including fans. Minutes from LAX. Take a cab and you're there. Fly in, quick cab, walk into stadium. Metro would be great. I believe they will do this first class, and the area will benefit greatly.

I hated Georgia when she moved the team to St. Louis to get a new stadium and PSL revenue. I guess I'll find out what the PSL cost is. I'm sure this will be an expensive ticket. OK with the Chargers coming here too. ANYTHING BUT THE FREAKING RAIDERS.

Rams belong in LA. They will be embraced. Gurley for MVP!

It'll be Monday. NBC will get a fantastic game Sunday Night. ESPN, of course, will get the much anticipated Bills @ Rams kicking off at 10:30 with Mike and Mike calling the game in LA.

That's like saying the Giants are #1 in NYC. They are when they are really good during the season, but NYC is still a Yankee/Knicks town. Same thing in LA.

...and citing the road schedule for excitement is an indictment in and of itself (not that you were doing it DD, but others were....that's like saying the Cardinals are a success because they sellout when the Cowboys, Steelers, and GB com there)

And he turned down $100 million from the NFL towards a new stadium plus St. Louis' own commitment to build a stadium for him? Had Henry Ellard on my first FF team.
Damn you've been playing this game for a while.
1989 was our leagues first year. Icky Woods was my first rd pick after scoring 15 TDs the year before. Blew his knee out the second game. Ellerd had a great year..almost 1400 yards receiving but we were a TD only league back then.

NYC is a Yankees/Mets town. Its baseball above all else.

LA is largely a frontrunner's town.

I assure you it will the fans. "HE'S A BUSINESSMAN!!!" was the rallying cry as to why he HAD to move to LA to make more money. I promise he is going to do everything he can to get the billions he's putting into the stadium back as soon as possible plus a huge profit.

Dave Peacock and Bob Blitz did everything the Rams asked when it came to a new stadium proposal here in STL and as soon as they met the requirements, that the Rams put in place, they changed them. Over and over again they changed them until they finally deemed it unsatisfactory right before the vote. They obviously, initially, thought nothing would get done so they kept changing the goals. These are not honorable people you are dealing with. Enjoy!
