High School and NIL (1 Viewer)

A friend of mine recently took a CEO position of a company that facilitates athletes getting NIL deals. As a high school coach, it got me wondering since a few states have already approved NIL for High School, it's just a matter of time before my state does as well.

Anyone have any experience in this realm? I'm not sure how it would even work. All I know about other states is just that the athletes can't use the school name or logo in anything that pertains to the NIL deal. I don't want to get blindsided when this eventually happens.

No experience but have dived into learning just a bit. I find it humorous that NIL is allowed in Illinois but no athletic scholarships are allowed for private schools.

In Illinois, they restrict the NIL in some says. It seems to essentially disconnecting the NIL from the school. No school logos or facilities can be used, etc.

I just watched a video from 1st Down Training.

The whole video was his experience going to HS game as he tries to get to as many as he can and support the kids he trains. He talked about meeting a guy who apparently owns a gym and does training too. Grant clearly did not like this guy.... as the guy starts talking about all the kids that he trains and kept saying 'I represent him and him and him'.. making it sound like the guy was trying to show how he is a kind of a thing type thing but apparently did not know it was Grant he was talking to. He picked up on the 'represent' thing and asked more questions and sure enough this guy is acting as an agent for these HS kids. Grant went on about the dangers of this and tips and suggestions on it all.

The way that NIL is basically the wild wild west right now and is coming down to the HS levels is going to cause a ton of issues and there are goig to be more than a kid or two who gets screwed over.

My daughter (now a college freshman) did some research on this when she was in high school. If you have any specific questions, I can see if she knows the answers.

In Wisconsin this was recently passed. I don't know the rules around it, but I heard a girl lacrosse player received an NIL and a football player received an NIL deal as well, both in the Milwaukee area. The lacrosse player's deal is with a legal firm and the football players is with an athletic clothing line. The lacrosse player already committed to Northwestern, while the football player has 14 different Division 1 college offers. One of the key elements is they cannot do any advertising in their school uniforms.

and the sponsor cannot have any preexisting relationship with the school what does that mean well your guess is as good as mine and only the wiaa knows but they have no real helpful guidance for schools so the first time we will know what that means is when they arbitrarily ban someone or hit a school because unlike the ncaa which has a clearing house process to approve these relationships before they are finalized wiaa has nothing and it will lead to something ridiculous take that to the bank brohans

Sports Illustrated says WI is prohibited as of June of this year:
