Hit on Trent Green (1 Viewer)

He intentionally followed him into his slide, this wasnt a matter of wear his momentum carried him, he adjusted his path to make contact with the QB who was sliding. Like it or not, that is a penalty.
Could you please teach me how to know what someone was or wasn't trying to do in the space of a 0.1 seconds while this play took place?

I do not think it was a cheap shot.

I would expect a fine to be handed down. Moreso because of the result of the hit.

Isnt that what we pay referees for? Sysem isnt perfect, but its what we got. They are there to make split second judgements about what happened. I dont happen to think it was a 'cheap' hit, if it was on any other player it isnt a penalty, but the rules state a player needs to actively avoid the QB when he slides or releases the ball, and Geathers didnt do that. The evidence that he had the opportunity is that if he managed to lower his shoulders to deliver the blow, he could have turned his shoulders to avoid the blow.

From what me and my friends could see he was blocked into him. Not directly but he was hit by some player and then that is what caused him to go with so much force.

Just my take.

IMO, Green waited too long to begin his slide. The defender is already leaning forward a great deal beginning the hit. Not sure if Kennison really had anything to do with the force or momentum. These guys are running full speed at one another, closing quickly, and at the last second Green starts his slide.

They slide was too late, no time for Geathers to stop. If you don't want the QB's to get hit like a RB, don't let them run. Green was eating them up running the ball. Until they make it two hand touch for the QB, which will probably be soon, they shouldn't expect to get hit softer.

From Rotoworld....

The NFL has ruled that the hit that knocked Trent Green out was legal.Anyone who saw the tape has to agree. Green slid late, the defender Robert Geathers did not hit him in the head, and Geathers was also blocked in the back by Chiefs wideout Eddie Kennison.

After seeing the hit from a bunch of angles I have to agree -- it wasn't a cheap shot. I didn't think Kimo's tackle of Palmer was cheap either.
