Honeycrisp Apples (1 Viewer)

Are they distributing organic Honeycrisp anywhere? I would prefer those to the regular but am not holding out hope that I will find any down here. Hey MOP, is Whole Foods carrying the Honeycrisp yet down in Miami (is all produce at Whole Foods organic)? I haven't seen them at my local (Milam's in the Grove) yet or the Fresh Market on Bayshore. Keeping an eye out for them and am hoping to start seeing them soon. I have been holding over with some Organic Cripp's Pink but they're just not the same as Honeycrisp.
Just for the record I haven't worked there in about 2 years but I do sometimes shop there. I have not been in one in a while and the Honeycrisps are not at my local market yet, hoping they come in soon. Might have to trek over to WF though.

***OFFICIAL EOMMAN'S REVIEW OF HONEYCRISP APPLES***I was shopping in WalMart, yeah, I said WalMart, and noticed that they had these for $2.49/lb. Seeing how expensive they were, I immediately thought of this thread and how some people had food orgasms just thinking about these apples. So, I bought 3 of them and said "What the heck". The first thing you'll notice is the size of the apple. Mine are close to the size of a grapefruit when "normal" apples are more like the size of a smaller orange. Think of it as an apple on steroids. I took a bite and it definitely had a good texture/crisp to it. It's what I would think an apple should feel like when you bite into it. Also, the bites came off in nice, big pieces. It wasn't like you bite into it and have a bunch of apple pieces in your mouth. I can see these apples holding up well in a pie maybe. Now for the taste......I would say that they tasted pretty damn good. They aren't the sweetest apple in the world (I'd say Washington, the really shiny dark red ones, are sweeter), but they have a good mix of sweet/tartness. Another plus is the fact they aren't really juicy. I hate biting into an apple and getting apple juice all over my shirt.Overall, I'd give Honeycrisp Apples an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. The biggest knock on them being the price.
This was a spot on review.I still prefer the Washington apples when you consider the cost but will enjoy an Honeycrisp every now and again if I feel like a baller.

Picked up some local (upstate NY) honeycrisp the other day and they're fantastic.

The guy who owns the orchard said all the rain this year made them a lot better than normal

So I'm in Whole Foods yesterday on South Beach because I saw conventional honey crisps at Publix and didn't like the looks of them so I drove over to where I figured they would have oodles of organic honey crisps. This is not the location I managed at but I worked in there on occasion when they needed extra folks but still I know a lot of the people who work in there. I go into the produce dept and there are 2 long haired(80s thrash metal long) guys stacking fruit and I go over to buy some fresh squeezed grapefruit juice(shut up, I love the stuff) and I can see instantly there is a good section of it that is discolored which is the 1st sign that it's outdated. Sure enough I pick the container up and it's 2 days old already from the expiration date on the jug. I walk it over to the guys working and let them know it's out of date. 1st one says that can't be and I said follow me because about half the cold case is out of date and you can tell just by looking at it. After I show him, I ask about the honey crisps and he says they haven't gotten any in yet

The produce manager pops his head out and this guy got in my way once when he came over to the Coral Gables store and started barking at me when I had first started there. I grabbed a couple of the outdated juices and walked them over to him, shoved them into his hands and said "Isn't this a no no? Don't you train your peeps to look for this daily when they come on shift? How many people walked out of here with outdated juice?" My hair is much shorter than when I worked there so I'm not sure he recognized me at first but he eventually figured it out. I turned around and walked out. Maybe I should write Mackey a letter about my Whole Foods experience.

Milam's in the Grove (off of 1) is where I bought the $2.99/lb organic Honey Crisp. They were Washington (I prefer New York) but good nonetheless.

I didn't realize we were neighbors. Beer at Flanigan's would be fun. 4-7 and 9-close it's half off at the bar...$3.50 JWB is mighty sweet.

So I'm in the local grocery store this morning, and lo and behold, they have honeycrisp apples. I bought 3 on reviews here. Will have to report back.

Busted one out, and wow, I have to say this is the juiciest apple I have ever had. Taste is different but very good. Happy with them and will have to share with the family at some point.

How long is the season for them?

Jonalicious is my favorite. These are hard to find (I've only got them in Oak Glen, CA) but they have the best combination of tart, sweet and crunchy. The perfect apple IMO.

Found my first honeycrisp of the season here in the Cincinnati area yesterday. My local Kroger had regular and organic and the price wasn't that different so I grabbed a few organic ones. Our Krogers has a nice organic section and the prices are much, much better than Whole Foods.

Haven't had one yet but will later today for a snack. I love honeycrisp season! We have a fruit farm less than 2 miles away so I'm going to hit that up this weekend for some more.

You can start to pick up Red Prince apples as the Honeycrisp season starts to fade. I actually like the Red Prince a bit better, but they are both fantastic.

Price seems to be up a bit this year $3.49/lb but I did find a local orchard with pick your own for $1.99/lb. Just need to make time to get out there.

You know it's apple season when my farmer's market carts start weighing 50 pounds. Oy vey. On the plus side, when apple season replaces peach season at my place, it also replaces fruit fly season.

I like Honeycrisps, but I also always get something a little more sour. Like Ginger Golds or Winesaps. Particularly if I'm making apple sauce.

The apple harvest near me is 90% less than normal due to an early spring and then a late frost killing most blossoms. Cider is priced over $10.00/gallon.

I never even knew these things existed until like 2 days ago. This #### is going to change my life. I'm hooked.

A 6 page thread on apples? Jesus.

McIntosh >>>>>>>>>> Honeycrisp

Passed on Honeycrisp last week in favor of Gala (1/3 the price!). Texture is just :meh: by comparison. I miss that hard snap

How do you know what kind of apple it is? I had an apple today but I have no idea what kind it was. The sign in the store just said apples. It was light red.
