Super Mario doing nothing much.

DeMeco Ryans tackle.

Rams to punt.

Texans good punt return in Rams territory to start this series.

Aug 19 The Houston Texans television network reports Houston Texans rookie RB Wali Lundy started the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 19. However, RB Vernand Morency is expected to see plenty of action.

Hmm interesting Morency was supposed to be getting looks with the first team offenceLooks like its all Lundy
He was just supposed to get the most playing time this week, never specified with which unit. Lundy was named the starter about 3 days ago. Looks like Morency should get 2, maybe 2.5 quarters to prove he's still the backup. It depends on if he's effective and if they care to see how Rhodes looks at RB as well.*Morency now in and runs for 12 on his first carry.

Nice run by Morency, 12 yds.

I think he will beat out Lundy for 2nd, better blocker and will not make as many mistakes.

Okay guess its still openDon't see why they would put Morency in with the 2nd team offence though

Suddenly Andre Johnson has woken up. Carr is looking much better this series. It helps that Morency has made a few excellent blocks thus far.

Morency looks to be running with a purpose.

Great run by Morency for the TD. He just bowled over the LBer for the TD. He's really running with a purpose. He must be tired of the Lundy press hype.

Both have looked solid but love that HARD POP More laid out as he scored. Good stuff.

True but Morency is running hard and is blocking well on pass plays.

He is also not making mistakes like the rookie will.

I like both Morency and Lundy but Morency is showing more fire tonight.

I guess I should have said DD who?

Is Morency a poor-mans Wali Lundy?
4 rushes, 23 yards on his first series. I have a feeling I know what Kubiak will do if they both keep playing like this, but will withhold comment until I see Morency for a few more series.

Just remember that More is going against inferior competition. May not mean anything but he should look better than Lundy since he isn't playing against all 1st stringers

Wow Mario Williams with two great plays in a row to disrupt the STL offense. Almost got in again on third down.

Frerotte dumps it off to Klopfenstein after nearly getting sacked. STL punt upcoming.

2nd team defenses tend to make a RB look better than he is. If/when Morency plays against a first team defense can you really compare the two backs. At this point, Lundy at least looks to be a 3rd down type RB (maybe more) if he can learn to pick up the blocks a little better due to having better hands than Morency.

Morency another 5 yards.

Morency another good block on pass play.

Got stuffed on that one.

3rd and 7 and another bad pass to AJ, should have been a pick.

I really believe Lundy will be their feature back if DD can't go. I initially liked Morency, but I've since changed my mind. Also, you can't ignore the fact Lundy is currently ahead of Morency on the depth chart (from what I understand).

trade one to the Jets?
2 to 1 split. One will be the third down/Tatum Bell back. I'm just trying to figure out which will be which.Morency has the experience and the blocking ability and runs bigger than he is. Lundy runs quicker than he seems and is more prone to catch passes out of the backfield.

Babin injured and not returning to the game. They don't think it's serious, but he's done for the night.

That comes from the Texans' broadcast since that's what I'm watching.

*Edit: Sounds like a bruised hip

Btw just found this on the Texans' board...

If Davis is not healthy enough to play in any of Houston's three remaining preseason games, coach Gary Kubiak isn't sure if he would start him in the opener even if he's fully recovered.

"I don't want to answer that right now," Kubiak said. "I think that would be very hard to do. I think he'd tell you the same thing. I don't know, stranger things have happened. Let's wait and see."

"We're going to be patient," Kubiak said. "We know he can play the game. We just have to know that we're going to get there at some point. We'll keep our fingers crossed, and hopefully it'll work out."

Morency is playing great, both blocking and not dancing like Kubiak told him to stop doing. I like the word the broadcasters just used. Morency is playing with "urgency."

Halftime stats:

Lundy - 5 rushes, 33 yards, 2 catches, 26 yards

Morency - 7 rushes, 37 yards, 1 catch, 9 yards, 1 TD

Kube's will more than likely use a two RB to keep them fresh.

Update: Davis has been running on the side, but will not be making the trip for Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, the Texans' official site reports.

Recommendation: Davis will remain in Houston to continue treatment for what is being called a bruised knee. "Domanick has been very positive for the last two days," said head coach Gary Kubiak. "You guys saw him running, he ran very well last night. (Head athletic trainer) Kevin (Bastin) felt real good about it. He will not make the trip. He will stay back and continue to get treatment." With Davis out of action, Kubiak is auditioning several backs. Antowain Smith, Wali Lundy, Chris Taylor and Damien Rhodes saw action in the first preseason game. On Saturday, Lundy and Vernand Morency will get most of the carries. However the running back situation shakes out, Kubiak envisions a rotation of two backs during the regular season in an effort to keep his backs fresh. That also works to minimize the fantasy potential of Houston's running backs.

Carr = 0-5 on third down

STL RBs = 17 combined rushing yards in the first half

Btw my advice to people watching this RB situation is to grab Lundy and watch the next 2 games to see if Morency regains the momentum with Kubiak.

If Lundy ends up with the job then you have him on your roster. If they go with Morency, well he doesn't have near the buzz that Lundy has at the moment and he should remain available on the wire should he be named the starter.

Texans don't do much that series. Wali gets stuffed on a run after dancing a little too much in the backfield. They settle for a shaky FG from Brown.

Listen.

Kubiak has said he would rotate his Rbs in these 1st 2 games so that they all could play and then compare them later. There is no depth chart yet. So don't read too much in to which Rb started.

TD Rams on pass from Frerotte to McDonald. 2 running plays for 7 yards on that series. All the rest in the air.
