How 'Bout them Lions? (1 Viewer)

This team has managed to take full advantage of the early rounds since Millen left and Schwartz was hired as HC. Granted, '09 and '10 were pretty easy for them with thier first picks (Suh and Stafford), but the point is they didn't blow it, quite the opposite. And this year they were able to take full advantage of the early QB run and get by far the best player available. Suh and Fairley combo will be DEVESTATING! I gotta say I'm becoming a huge fan of what they are doing over there in Detroit.

If Stafford can stay healthy, watch out....The Lions are coming.

They have done very well since Millen was fired.. The DL could be the most brutal in the league if everything works out like Schwartz and Gunther are hoping..

They need some help in the secondary, an OLB and the OL is aging but if Stafford continues to play and develop they should be fun to watch...

Maybe 8-8 this year.. maybe over .500..

As a Defensive minded person myself....and a Lions fan. I love this!!

I wonder what the over/under is for how many QBs the Lions DL put out this year.

With the DL they have now. They are going to get FA LBs and CBs just wanting to come play for the Lions. Hell I would love to be a LB on the Lions with that DL in front!

Injury or not, I think the Lions will be all over Bruce Carter in round 2 if he is available.

I just realized that we play these guys in our first preseason game at Detroit and that we always get players hurt up there in preseason games (See Ki-Jana Carter  ). Maybe if our draft picks hold out past the first preseason game that won't be such a bad thing :scared:

I like the Lions, really I wish you well. Hope you truly are on the rise. But I doubt it. Your franchise QB has to prove he's not a bust. He's a shoulder injury waiting to happen. Does he not know how to fall? Or is it just bad luck. Whatever the case, he needs to lead them if they are going anywhere. The defense is on the rise, but without an O, they wont sniff the playoffs.

I couldn't disagree more. This team looks good even without Stafford. If Fairley does what I think he can then they end the playoff drought this season. Look at what they did last year with who they started under center.

Im hoping staffords injuries are just bad luck.. He had no history of injuries or being soft in college.. if he stays upright and learns to curl up in the fetal position like peyton manning does when he sniffs a defender near him, he should last all year and light up some score boards this year...

Packers are obviously the team to beat in the division, but with the Vikings looking like they're headed into rebuilding mode with a rookie QB and the Bears an aging team in decline, the Lions could definitely make some noise this year. :football:

That's my thought, too. I'm hoping they stay defense and find a way to bring Carter and Martez Wilson to town. Build the front seven, dominate up front and the corner play magically gets better (plus we still have FA to address holes). I wouldn't mind (CB) Dowling either. If the Lions do go offense, I'd love to see Greg Little paired up with Calvin, sliding Burleson inside along with Pettigrew at TE.

I love the Fairley pick (I'm not a Detroit fan). That D-line is nightmarish. Now if they can get some O-line help and secondary help. I'm still not sold on Stafford either. Guy seems really fragile. And that is not a good division to be a fragile QB.

Good luck to ya Detroit!

I mean do you double both guys? This is gonna give OC's fits.

as a husker fan, i'm bummed they passed on Prince. they could have become the Professional Black Shirts

Already some talk from the beat writers in Detroit about Suh likely being used more as a DE this year with Corey Williams and Fairley in the middle. Not sure people realize this, but Corey Williams was nearly just as good as Suh last year. Also, talk of using the old Bear front with Williams over C and Suh/Fairley over the guards. Don't sleep on Sammie Lee Hill, the kid starts at DT for half if the teams in this league.

Isn't Fairley a better option to move on the edge than Suh? I know Fairley hasn't played a down in the NFL yet, but he seems to have a quicker 1st step and better overall foot speed than Suh IMO. It doesn't really matter a whole hell of a lot, that line is going to be scary if Fairley is half as good as he was in college.

The value of OG and C just went up dramatically for teams in the NFCN.
I think the selections of the Bears and the Pack may have been influenced somewhat by the Lions pick
I doubt it.I doubt Ted Thompson alters his board based on the Lions pick. They already had a possible need for OT with Clifton getting older and none of their other guys stepping up yet. They fill that with a talented player. They may have a need at guard yet with Colledge not being all the good. But now with Bulaga and Sherrod they can move Lang in and keep him at guard.

I would love to see the lions draft a good CB or someone on the OL. Fairley's slide to 13 was the best thing. After living through the Millen years, seeing these last few drafts it's amazing what a couple of smart picks can do. What is the pool's thoughts on the Lions taking Aaron Williams or Orlando Franklin? I'd love to see them do something to protect Stafford.

yes SUH could play the DE, they literally stood him up 4 or 5 times against the redskins and i saw him line up at DE a few other times against other competition.

plus you still want fairley on the inside because SUH is still the most athletic and capable at being moved around. then with fairley never working from the outside before and our DEs being symbiotic with the DTs having that explosiveness inside when olines start to get scared about where SUH is really helps keep the chaos up.

i have absolute faith they will find a way to get everyone to be their most destructive.

i had not heard or thought of that old bears attack but it would definitely work with the horses that are roaming now.

in short pp (poor ponder) :excited:

Yeah, Suh played LB a few times as well- I loved that look. I don't recall him ever dropping into coverage, he just used to get a 3 yard running start to bull rush a guard. Needless to say, it worked well. I could see Fairley or Suh moving to DE and becoming a Reggie White type player- he was an oversized DE who had experience at DT. Avril is really developing into a good pass rusher as well. He had more sacks than any other DL in his draft class (2008) this past year.

I wanted defense with that 2nd rounder, there were some good linebackers left and I have no idea why nobody wants Brandon Harris. Sure he's smallish for a corner but he's a competitor.

That said, if they liked their offensive options better I wish they would've landed on Mikel LeShoure instead of a WR.
