How 'bout them Reds! (2 Viewers)

They tried making a comeback, but just didnt have enough. Looking forward to todays game. Cueto goes on the mound, hopefully he can pitch like he did 2 starts ago.

Rolen had an E5 that apparently was scored as a single that could have turned two and got out of the inning.
Unbelievable they called that a hit. The ball was hit right at him and he tried to backhand it to make the DP easier and missed it. You really couldn't get a more clear-cut error. Oh well, pretty sure Cueto is going to dominate them tonight.

What a series by the Reds. Sweeping the Cubbies at Wrigley. I believe it was the first time since 2005, i remember Marty saying it, not sure exactly on the year. I hope this momentum carries over for a HUGE series against the Cardinals. We at least need to take 2 of 3 from them. Tonights probables are Leake and Carpenter, so i hope we dont start off the series with a goose egg or a loss.

The ex-Cards continue to roll in.

Reds trade Chris Dickerson for Jim Edmonds

Posted by nhurm August 9th, 2010, 1:26 pm From the Reds:

The Reds have acquired OF Jim Edmonds (#15) from the Brewers in exchange for OF Chris Dickerson.

More to come

John Fay here: This means the Reds still have to make a roster to move to get Edmonds on the 25-man. Tough call. Jay Bruce and Drew Stubbs are coming off very good games. Laynce Nix is probably the hottest hitter on the club. Juan Francisco could be on the bubble. Edmonds has played some first.

Great pickup, though.

I think they send Stubbs down like what I originally thought when they were going to call up Dickerson. See if he can get re focused on swinging the bat well, then bring him back up in September and have Jimmy take him under his wing.

I like the move, Jim Edmonds a proven veteran who will get revitalized in a pennant race, while helping out the young players like Heisey, Stubbs and Bruce. Didnt give up much because Dickerson wouldn't of played every day. I hear he is in the lineup tonight as well. Prove to the Cardinals you can still play.

sigh at that inning
Leake has hit a wall. I fully expect either a DL stint or for the Reds to shut him down for the season now. Bailey is ready to come off the DL, so this seems the logical move. He's now thrown 129.2 IP and when I say shut him down, I mean have him throw some BP sessions to finish out his innings and have him ready for ST.

somebody above dusty has to make that decision. he'll ride him until he's broken which is one of the reasons i've avoided trading for him in my keeper league.

Why not just move Leake to the bullpen for now and have them bring up Homer as the #5? Leake did look good for the first three innings.

I think we should just put Leake on the DL with an undisclosed injury, so he can still be with the team, then allow him to throw bullpen sessions to get some work in. Bring Homer up to take his spot for now.

We need to take care of business these next two games against the Cards.

Reds have embarrassed themselves and now they're done. Disappointed in that team. Couldn't just shut up and play.

Reds will not win 90 games this year.

If you want to make this statement stick with a wager I can back it up

Its too bad the season ends today, the Reds hope and dreams just got crushed...the season is not over, the Reds are not done, and there is plenty of baseball left to make things happen.

Agreed...but if Cueto gets any time off for bad behavior...and if Leake is on hiatus in the bullpen...the Reds need two starters quick (one if they slot Bailey in Leake's place).

They can bring Wood and Bailey back up and Harang should be on track soon. Also have Maloney to spot start.

Arroyo, Volquez, Wood, Leake, and Bailey.....if not Leake then i would go Maloney or Harang. Cueto is only going to miss 1 start.

I'm a little torn on if they will appeal or not. If they do it now, they really don't need a 5th starter because of multiple off days. If they appeal he would make the next start while Wood spends his 10 days in AAA and then drop it when he is ready to replace him in the rotation.Bailey will probably be in the rotation sooner rather than later too. He has no options IIRC and his rehab has to be about maxed out.Still plenty of pitchers to go around.

Bailey is a total waste of skin if you ask me, dude has never done anything in the majors
Of course he has been a dissapointment so far, but if his last 7 weeks of this season are anything like his last 7 weeks of last season, the Reds will be a playoff team. I wouldn't say he has never done anything, but closing out last year great when the team is out of it barely gets noticed and really isn't the same as doing it now when it matters.

I agree with Cheese. Bailey hasnt been impressive so far this year, but if he pitches half as good as he did at the end of last season, he will be good enough for us.

OK, maybe a total waste of skin was a tad harsh :goodposting: But he hasn't come close to all of the hype for the last few years.

He was solid today though in a game where they needed innings from the starter. I'll take that and the win. Go Cubbies!

Leake is getting moved to the bullpen for when Travis comes back up.
Extremely smart move. Keeps his innings down, keeps him available for the postseason roster and doesn't burn an option. Solid, solid move.
