How 'bout them Reds! (1 Viewer)

It seemed like Edmonds is really helping Bruce with his swing. Bruce kicked ### last night at the plate for once, and after one of Bruce's hits, when he got back to the dugout Edmonds was talking with him giving him pointers. If Bruce gets hot, this will be a season to remember.

Thank you KingPrawn, I am glad the Brewers are taking care of business against the Cards, hope it continues today.

Another W for the Reds

Somebody here was talking about Edmonds working with Bruce on his swing, it must be working as he hit another dinger last night

It would be nice to see the Jay Bruce we all thought we would see. He's been tearing the cover off the ball over the past few games... hope it continues. If Bruce becomes a threat in the lineup, then the Reds will have a lineup that compete with the big boys in the AL... have to get the World Series first, but just saying.

The Reds would be stupid to put Harang-a-tang back into the starting rotation, especially after that rough outing in AAA. I think the only way Harang gets back onto this team, is if he does accept the long relief position. So really it is up to him. Be on the Reds as a middle relief guy and contend or stay in AAA starting until the year is over and walk as a free agent.

Huge win last night against the Dodgers though, way to break that streak right off the bat in the first game in LA.

There's no way that Harang is going to be up in the rotation after those two rehab starts. Homer pitched well at the end of last season, and seems to be doing it again now. Factor in Bronson, Travis, and Cueto, that's a solid 4 man rotation. Just need Edinson to be more consistent and they'll be set. Regardless of what Harang wants, he won't be a Red next year.

By not re-signing Harang that is going to actually give us some cap space to work with.....until we resign Votto to an MVP type contract this winter. I would love to us go after a stud SS. We will probably let Ramon Hernandez walk, and go with Hannigan behind the dish, hopefully Meseracco keeps murdering the ball in AAA and will be ready for next year...however hes on 22 years old. He has only played in 3 games but is 4 for 9 with 2 HRs, 1 Double, and 8 RBI's.

Do they still have one more year with Cordero's contract? I think so, but am not sure. That is one they won't be able to trade unless they keep most of that contract on their payroll. At the time, I loved that move, but now....he is making me really nervous anytime he comes into a game with less than a 5 run lead.

Cordero makes you sweat usually every time he comes in that is for sure, he did pitch a 1-2-3 inning yesterday against the Dodgers, grant it was a 3 run lead, but that is better than him walking at least 2 batters. He hasnt been too bad the last couple of outings, and he has converted i think his last 10 saves now. I was thinking Cordero's contract ends at the end of this year, but not positive on that.

Word on the Dan Patrick show earlier today is that Joey Votto is this weeks SI cover story and his quiet chase for the triple crown.

Votto is having an outstanding year - but Pujols is leading him in 2 of the 3 Triple Crown categories. Admittedly as close as those two are in all three categories it is a crapshoot who finishes ahead of who in each category...

but look back to Pujols early career when he kept getting edged out by the cheater Barry Bonds. If they are pretty equal in stats, I think they will defer the vote to Pujols.

That said - I personally like Votto (and Rolen and Edmonds for that matter) so if he deserves it I won't be at all bent out of shape.

Crazy few days. The Reds give up 38 runs in 3 games to SF and almost blow a 10-1 lead, yet they game 0.5 games on the Cards and 1.5 on the Phils (in the WC race) thanks to the Pirates, Astros, and Nats. Crazy game, eh?

Rough series in San Fran, but whatever, we won a game there so a 6-3 road trip on the west coast is huge. Three against the scrubbies who they've dominated pretty much all season long, then a huge series in StL. Satisfied with the four game lead!

We need to start with a strong game against the Cubbies tonight....Hopefully everyone gets healthy this weekend (Phillips, Cabera, and Nix). And is ready to go for the Cardinals series.

I really don't know why you'd want O-Cab back. Janish is far better an option than Cabrera. Cabrera will be back when rosters expand Sept. 1st, but I certainly hope Janish gets at least half the starts going forward.

I see gutless Cueto won't pitch in the Cards series - what with a big enough lead why risk him being hit in the head with an inside pitch. Now what will be really funny is when a pitcher lets one go into the dugout...accidentally of course. Meanwhile, Bob Uecker in the booth will exclaim...Just a bit outside.

;) WTF is this?!? I'm 100% sure it's his fault his spot in the rotation misses the Cards. :excited:

Jay with another HR today. If Edmonds truly is helping him with his swing, that acquisition ranks right up there with Rolen.

5 games baby. Looking forward to the STL series....

The Cardinals have definitely been sucking it up since the Red series 2 1/2 weeks ago, but that doesn't make Cueto any less of a punk #####.

Despite that, I still am a huge fan of Edmonds and Rolen, so I am incapable of having total hatred for the Reds like I have for the Cubs or like I did for the Mets in the mid 80s or the Astros in the mid 00s.

;) 5 game lead :hifive:
You are right...but that doesn't change the fact Cueto is a gutless punk. The Reds are the better overall team. We have 3 excellent starters and not a whole lot of offense behind Pujols and Holliday. Could we catch the Reds? Not likely based on the number of games left and the overall lack of offense.Cueto is still a punk. However, I will be more than happy to see Rolen, Edmonds and even Votto do well. The Reds have the offense to compete in the playoffs. If their pitching staff doesn't solidify they could be hurt...but at least they'll be in the playoffs whereas the Cardinals will likely getting an early start on the offseason.

It is 100% sure that Dusty rearranged the rotation to ensure Cueto didn't incite another brawl...because had he pitched in the series I have a feeling he would have been seeing some pitches not to his liking. With him not pitching I think the series will be a little less testy.

I see that Harang is the probable starter on Tuesday....I have no idea why the Reds would bring him up. He has struggled in his rehab starts, what makes you think that he can do well up in the Majors.

As for Cueto, i am glad Dusty "arranged" the rotation, so that he doesnt face the Cardinals. That would result in a lot of problems, and that way the Reds can focus on just playing baseball.

Really don't know how they won tonight with all the mistakes they made running the bases and Cain making that sick grab off Janish's hit. Could have easily won this game 8-4 or something like that but I'll take it. How about Valaika too. Kid has been pretty damn solid.

So with Harangatang back on the mound tonight, who is expected to finish the first down by 5 runs?

ETA:

Harang Starting

Harang made two rehab starts at Triple-A Louisville. He allowed 11 runs in 11 innings.

“I felt pretty good,” he said. “It took me a couple of innings in the first one where I was confident to let it go,” he said.
I have always been in his corner and I still like the guy himself - from 04-07 - he was the stablizer on this team when no one else was around to step up, but this quote makes me laugh.

Harang went 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in his two rehab starts...i hope not but im going to guess he gives up at least 6 runs tonight.

I'm just excited about Chapmania!! Cant wait to see this kid pitch in the bigs!!!

I don't read too much into minor league-rehab starts. For all we know, they could have had Harang working on his mechanics, locating his fastball, etc.

Done. The Cards have quit, and the Reds are the ones playing like they've been here before. I just don't see the feasibility of making up this many games in this short of a time frame. Say we sweep the Reds - we still face a 4 game deficit. Not going to happen.

I'm starting to wonder if the Cueto retribution happens this weekend now. LaRussa has seemingly gone off the tracks and the whole city is still fussy about that situation. If there isn't much left to be gained by the Cardinals, they might be ready to start some trouble.

Mr. Know-It-All, the Reds (& Dusty) did NOT shuffle the rotation at all. Everyone has gone on normal rest. Only the Genius has been moving his rotation around for these two series.

And 5 hits in 2 days? While I won't call St. Louis toast, they're awfully close.

Oh and good luck w/ Chapman. :lmao:
