There was an open spot on the 25-man?Someone want to explain to me why Yonder Alonzo was called up?
They traded Gomes and had a spot to fill on the roster.Someone want to explain to me why Yonder Alonzo was called up?
He's worse. Honestly, he's pretty terrible at 1st too.But ya, they're going to play him in left anyway. We need his bat. This team played Dmitri Young at 3rd base so thats an option I guess. It's just so obvious that Dusty is not on board with throwing the kid out there everyday and watching him butcher every position. If he were in the AL, he could easily have a Billy Butler type career with a few more extra base hits.Somebody better find Yonder a position this off-season. Surely he can't be any worse than Dunn was in LF, and the management was alright with that for the better part of a decade.
Trade me some.Got my cake squad stocked with Reds. Should be a good season.
stubbs leadoff?Dusty posted his first lineup today. The only thing remotely interesting is Ludwick in the cleanup spot (meaning Rolen 6) and Mes starting at catcher. If I had to guess today, I'd say that Ludwick at cleanup sticks, but Hannigan gets the OD start at C.

The front office has improved the roster for sure, but yeah, leadoff is a glaring hole. Brandon needs to be at the 2 spot.Phillips has been leading off. Close to locking up Votto.http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/02/report-reds-close-to-huge-long-term-deal-with-joey-votto/

It's only temporary until Bray is healthy.Looks like Bailey in the rotation and Chapman to the pen. Dumb.

Then what? Homer is out of options. Do you they send Leake down or try to trade Homer? It's only temporary until Bray is healthy.Looks like Bailey in the rotation and Chapman to the pen. Dumb.
Meant to address this forever ago.I tend to agree with you in theory, but he was awesome when leading off last year. I think he is really comforatable there for whatever reason. Random stats....350 BA as leadoff man1.009 OPS as first batter of the game.347 average leading off any inningI don't understand it and it's SSS, but roll with what's been working IMO.The front office has improved the roster for sure, but yeah, leadoff is a glaring hole. I can't argue with those #s. He's certainly better than Stubbs.Meant to address this forever ago.I tend to agree with you in theory, but he was awesome when leading off last year. Word around Central Ohio is that the Reds are close to locking up BP. What are you Cincinnati guys hearing?Ya, I think the Bray thing is only an excuse. It sounds a little weird to say "we're waiting on someone to get hurt, then we're starting him". I think it makes sense because you buy time and at the same time limit his innings. Whether it is that easy to just switch from reliever to starter mid-season, I guess we'll probably find out.Very pumped about the Votto extension. Whatever you want to say about the tail end, having him around these next 5 years along with the rest of the core that is signed is going to be a pretty nice window to win. I have no idea what it means for BP, but the priorities are right IMO. Add pitching, lock up Bruce/Votto, then worry about the rest.
Ya, they've made it clear the last few days they still want to extend him and BP is interested in staying if he can get paid here. Fay came out with a report that he would be extended within this week. I do think it's starting to be a distraction so if they're going to do it, it'll be soon. I still have no idea how close they are on years, but normally if both sides want to make a deal it eventually happens.Word around Central Ohio is that the Reds are close to locking up BP. Word is they offered 5 years 60M. Maybe someone from the Reds leaked that to put the pressure on BP.Word around Central Ohio is that the Reds are close to locking up BP. If the #s are correct, then just for a reference point, Utley, Cano, and Uggla are the only 2B making more than 12 million this year. BP is making exactly 12 this year. That seems like a fair offer IMO. Seems like they should be able to lock something up soon unless BP is being unreasonable behind the scenes.Word is they offered 5 years 60M. 6/72.5M extensionWay more than I would've liked to pay, but as a fan I'm glad he'll be around.Ya, they've made it clear the last few days they still want to extend him and BP is interested in staying if he can get paid here. Does Phillips have the arm strength/accuracy to be able to move to 3B in the latter years of his contract?6/72.5M extensionWay more than I would've liked to pay, but as a fan I'm glad he'll be around.Ya, they've made it clear the last few days they still want to extend him and BP is interested in staying if he can get paid here. At 2B you can hardly tell what arm strength a guy has, but he is a former SS and it was considered a good arm back then. I don't think he will move to 3rd though. Homer settled in after the first. He gutted through some innings, but I would much rather see Chapman in the rotation right between Arroyo and Leake. Is the Dusty Baker experiment over yet? I am not a hater, and it is easy to second guess after the fact, but him leaving Arroyo in the other night was just stupid, and every Reds fan knew it.'shuke said:Is the Homer Bailey experiment over yet?
The place is jammed packed compared to recent years. 16 years and counting without a playoff win takes a toll anywhere and attendance doesn't improve overnight. With all the improvements to the banks and MGMT dishing out massive contracts, I expect it to turn around, but it wouldn't hurt to win a little once in a while.Serious question: where are all of the Reds fans? Watching the Cards/Reds game last night, I was shocked at how many empty seats there were, even down in the good seats down the left and right field lines.
Take your pick:It was cold.Haven't won #### for years.Weeknight with kids still in school.Economy sucks.Opening weekend hangover.I imagine attendance will be up this year. This was first time in forever that they sold out their first two games. I want to say that this city's sports fans are apathetic, but I'm probably just as much as part of the problem. After signing Votto and the offer to Phillips on the table and in a series vs. new hated rival and world series champs, I should have been down there. But I have too much going on with work/family to make it down more than about 8 games a year.Serious question: where are all of the Reds fans? If Cincy's baseball fans are apathetic then what do you call Cleveland's baseball fans?Just based on my readings and once or twice a year trip down to Cincy: The southern Ohio economy doesn't appear to be doing all that well. Not busting anyone's balls... just making an obversation.Take your pick:It was cold.Haven't won #### for years.Weeknight with kids still in school.Economy sucks.Opening weekend hangover.I imagine attendance will be up this year. There is hope that he will stop sleeping with Dusty Baker. it is the only reason I can see he is still in the lineup every day.pathetic.is there any hope for drew stubbs?
Of playing solid CF with some steals? YesOf not looking completely lost every AB on his way to .225? Unlikelyis there any hope for drew stubbs?
