How did you find the great site known as (1 Viewer)

toastedgnome

Footballguy
I'm somewhat new here, and was just wondering how everyone came across this great site. For me, it was listening to Denver radio and hearing Cecil Lammey pimp footballguys. I came to the site and found the Draft Dominator, The Shark Pool, the cheatsheets and then I was hooked.

I've been playing fantasy football for about 10 years now, and by far Footballguys gives me the best information on the 'net.

How did you find out about these guys? give a new guy a history lesson...

Me too. I was here when it was cheatsheets. My usernumber actually went up when the switched over to footballguys.

Read a VBD article by Joe in some magazine in 1998. Have copies of the VBD spreadsheet from Cheatsheets.net starting in 2000.

I followed David Dodds from Mr. Football. I think I once had a member number below 1000.Hands down best site for insight not only from the staff but from posters like LHUCKS,Construxboy,Oz,Redman,Couch Potato and EBF. There are others. I really enjoy the different views that they have to offer on player evaluation.

Someone in my league posted the link a few years back. Worst mistake he ever made, because the large majority of us started lurking here, and he never finished in the top half of the league again, and eventually quit.

Did a yahoo search, found fftoday, but that became too full of people filling threads with garbage. Heard some people talk about this place over there and came over here. In my opinion this site kicks all others behinds. FFtoday has cleaned up their act over there now, so I still check it out now, but anything posted over there is already covered here with much better insight IMO.

Mr Football + Cheatsheets websites

(I think I still have the T-shirt Dodds sent me for authoring the "No Experts" article)

Newsgroups still suck.

I wanted some podcasts to listen to for a long trip. Somehow, I just stumbled on 'The Audible' through a google search. 1 month later I signed up.

Someone invited me to a message board mock NFL draft. I did not become regular until FGBs moved to this board and I was getting my but kicked in my first dynasty league.

Found an ad for cheasheets.net in a mag in 2000 maybe. At first I only used the content (rankings & whatever else they had at the time); didn't join the MB for at least a year after.

Played in Yahoo leagues for 5 years. :( Coworker introduced me to the Huddle :lmao: (again). I got interested in joining a keeper league which sounded very fun. My brother and I started up a keeper league choosing to use myfantasyleague.com for it. I looked under the fantasy links on the menu, saw footballguys and have been hooked ever since.

Driving home from work listenening to local sports talk guy Lance McAllister.

He was talking to Joe or David about their site, and the VBD concept. Being a numbers geek I checked it out that night and was hooked by the content on the yellow MB. First and only time I heard FBG interviewed on the show.

Jerry Jones from the drugstorelist is ok, but if we could get a staffer to call in each week they'd blow Jerry out of the water. Even better, have them go head to head as Jerry tends to have some widely different viewpoints

It was the combination of 2 events. (1) I achieved shark status in my league. (2)As a shark I was drawn to FBGs by the Force. The rest is history and my league dominance knows no bounds.

In 2000 a foolish, but all-too-nice friend & league-competitor in my ReDraft told me about cheatsheets.net (formerly free site). Silly boy!

Was this when I was on KOA or The Fan?

I remember when I first ran across cheatsheets.net and old yeller. I believe it was SLBD that I first got into a football debate with. Then we realized we had both spent a good portion of the early 90's in Fort Fun (Ft. Collins) and it was all good.

I've been here ever since. :fbgaddict:

I was looking through some of my old ff mags last year and found a VERY early add for cheatsheets.net I'll try to find it again and put it in this thread.

I saw an advertisement in Fantasy Football Index for cheatsheets.net way back when. Joe or David was acutally one of the experts in the mock draft section and I had liked what they had to say about their draft and tried out the site. I had just gotten my first computer (probably around 1999-2000) and one of the only sites I have used in Fantasy since.

I am more of a viewer than poster, but I was acutally viewing a year before I actually signed up and was still under 300 member number -- back when that meant a whole lot more. You old timers remember what that meant! It never got old seeing the posts like "ah, what does he know, he's a 4 digit member".

MrFootball.com I found very reputable - then TheHuddle.com got greedy, and Whitless Walters proved to be an #### - so I searched MrFootball, and he partnered up with Joe Bryant - and that led me to this here corner tavern.

Relative latecomer. I used to buy four or five magazines and surf randomly on the net, never really satisified with what I found.

It was the FBG draft magazine that finally led me to the site, and I've been here ever since.

I honestly can't figure out how I hadn't found it sooner, and I lurked for a good year or more before I finally ponied up the cash for membership and established a screen name (un-original though it may be!)

BEST FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE ON THE NET!

I was part of the cattle drive that followed Dodds from Mr. Football to FBG. I think I still have the brand.

Was big fan of Moose Knuckle Ball 4 (MKB4) at FFToday. When they had recurrent server problems on Sunday morning, somebody (maybe Moose) suggested that this site stayed up during heavy traffic. Made the switch and haven't gone back. Probably 2 years ago.

FBGs isn't a great site. There are other sites that absolutely CRUSH this place for information and in-depth analysis. Use FBGs strictly for a decent cheatsheet. But that's about it. The site is run and staffed by too many statheads. They do not go into in-depth detail about the game of NFL football much at all.

Eventually this site will be overtaken in popularity when someone really decides to bring the content hard.

And no, I'm not revealing the sources that I use. I might be in competition with people that visit this site.

I HAD A DREAM !!! that one day that all Fantasy geeks would be judged NOT by the stupidity of their drafts, but by the content they absorbed at footballguys.com.

I was turned on to footballguys years ago by a friend that isn't even interested in fantasy football anymore.

Known as ChuckC on the old yeller board.

Spring 2000.

The 1st year I played, I did a search for fantasy football with AltaVista (i.e. before Google) and came accross Cheatsheets.net and the ol' yellow board. At the time, my computer had just died and I was using an old "donated to me" mac. The Cheatsheets.net bookmark was the only fantasy site that made it over to my new PC later that year.

The other thing, laugh as you may, but there weren't many girls on the board that were taken very seriously when it came to football. Most of them hung out in the FFA. So when I registered for the mssg board, I used my team + the number of one of my favorite players for my user name. I wanted to just "blend in", for lack of better words. ;)

It's a lot different now with so many more subscribers/users but overall, much better, even if somewhat annoying at times with all of these "voices."

Still the best site out there, IMO...

I was a Mod on the Fantasy Advantage board started by Scott Luebke years ago. He eventually closed up shop and was hired here at FBG's. I followed him over here. Dont quite know what ever happened to him though, he aint here no mo

If you think FBGs isn't a great site then go spend your time on the boards that you like instead of showing your a-r-s-e here. Having said that, you sure as hell spend a lot of time here for someone that doesn't like the site. Seriously, I know you are just kidding ;)

FBGs has its function. Like I said, this place is loaded with statheads. And from a fantasy standpoint, that certainly has a use. I'm a bit of a stathead too. I get that. But I think anyone can tell from browsing threads in the Shark Pool, or reading subscription content, that the current staff and the current pool of posters doesn't watch a whole lot of game tape. You do realize there are people on the internet that devour that stuff with an incredible passion, and can break down the positives and negatives of a load of players at the drop of a hat, right? One of the reasons such people do not post here, is well, they can see the sort of crap that goes on these forums. They know full well that people love to snap and attack and criticize and they don't want to deal with it. They just want to analyze tape and tell you what they see. Its a big reason why you gotta shut down people like EG72. Its the wrong move for growth.I've said for years that the first thing FBGs needs to do is start filling out its staff with people who have either played the game or been in the coaching ranks.
