How Did You Transform from a Guppy to a Shark? (1 Viewer)

Dynasty= invest in the talented young studs before they break out

Redraft= look forward not back. I'm in auctions so I load up on breakout mid range guys vs a couple of studs who could bust you or become injured leaving you with no depth

Lets play in a league together next year.

When I first starting playing FF was in its infancy. The Internet had not been invented yet and we did stuff by hand! I made every mistake possible: relying on past performance, not knowing the players well enough in the beginning and using awful magazines, being taken advantage of in negotiations by my "friends" in the league, drafting John Elway 1st overall the year he had all those weapons and then was just slightly above average (that one still stings all these years later and taught me that you always draft 2 RBs first - until that stopped working!) , and the list goes on and on...

But, I would not change a thing. I learn something every year and do not think this will ever change because The NFL also changes. Who would have thought QBs would have exploded like last year or that we would ever get away from the era of you must draft 2 RBs back to back to be competitive. Or that QBs would play so well until their mid to late 30s.

Anyone who thinks they are now a shark or a hawk and know it all are at risk of getting cocky and making mistakes. I say wear your guppy-ness with pride and just keep trying to improve. And listen to your gut feeling about lineup choices and trades. Often times, trades that need to be posted in forum are for reassurance or because you know you are getting the worse end of the stick. Trust your instincts. Before you know it you will be winning leagues. It will be glorious

The dividing line between shark and guppy is razor thin nowadays thanks to the proliferation of places like FBGs. IN the 90s and into the early part of last decade, dominating leagues was easy and natural. Back then, it was a simple matter of reading EVERY box score, and paying attention to who the backups were instead of just the stars. Now...it usually takes a lot more work. You have to be ahead of the curve, and know who the backups backups are and how they've looked in practice/training camp.

Doug's had a number of quality posts in this thread that all hold true, but you can be a shark and still only win one league in 6 unless you're playing in yahoo free leagues.
