How I Met Your Mother (1 Viewer)

The Barney and Robin flash forward had them asking who should take care of the crying baby so Robin decided to have a kid.
I wasn't sure on that since they were in the wrong room.. I didn't know if that meant they HAD a baby and were in the wrong room.. or just in the wrong room with a baby and they really didn't have one...
I'm guessing the latter since in the episode about Robin not having kids, they made it pretty clear she never had any kids which is why she was so close to Ted's kids.
Yeah, Robin medically can't have kids.

Well, that wouldn't rule out adoption, which the writers seemed to play up by having a non-white baby, but if she did ever adopt, I don't thinkTed would tell his kids that Robin never had kids of her own. I think most adoptive parents would consider their child their own even if not biologically.

The mother is getting hotter every time she is onscreen. Real shame we barely got to know her.
Agreed...she is like quirky hot without the "I need to wear big fake glasses to look quirky" thing going.

I think I even caught some nippage when she was in bed hungover. I'll watch again and report back, see if I can track down a link.

:wall: looks like Mommy dies.
I am guessing that it's Ted's mother that died just before his wedding.
I think The Mother said, "What mother is going to miss her daughter's wedding?"

So, either The Mother's mother dies...or The Mother dies.

I bet Ted and The Mother are having a 2nd honeymoon in Farhampton because they just found out she's got a terminal disease.

Her reaction "oh no, c'mon now..." did seem to implicate the latter. That's not the way she would have reacted if it had been Ted's mother that died. It definitely seemed like the kind of reaction you'd get out of a sick person when someone that cares for them gets sad about the future.

Ted: "In a moment like that when what is happening is too intense to deal with, sometimes it is best..."

Mother: "... to leave it unspoken and just enjoy each other's company instead"

I don't like the idea of the mother being dead as Ted tells his story to the kids but this line and the "what mother is going to miss her daughter's wedding?" and Ted's reaction make it seen like a done deal. :(

First 2/3 of this episode were pretty lame but some good emotional 'end is near' stuff in the last 5 minutes.

Ted wouldn't cry like that about his mom passing by what she said. I doubt he'd cry over his mother in law being dead and not being able to be at their wedding.

The story about Robin and her mom could have made him cry if Robin is dead. But she woulda been much more sympathetic if Ted was crying over Robin being dead.

It's looking like she's gonna be dead in the end. That's one way to make a memorable finale instead of them just meeting at a wedding.

When Ted says "in a moment like that when it's too intense to deal with what's happening sometimes it's best...." Ted gets teary eyed and stops, she's says "to leave it unspoken and enjoy each other's company"

No doubt she dies.

Crappy way to end it.

Yeah, I've been skeptical of the rumors that she dies, but they certainly seemed to lay the groundwork for it last night. Horrible decision imo. We spend 8 years or whatever waiting to meet her, we finally do and start to know her and they kill her off. This will probably kill any chance of me watching HIMYD.

This has all been one big story to break the news to the kids about their mother's terminal illness.
That doesn't make much sense to me. Why would a story saying that the mother is going to die start off 7 years before he met her? If anything, it would be her telling her kids the story, including all the years before so they'd know as much about her as possible.

this, and the line of "I don't want you to just be your stories", indicates that she won't be there

Yeah, it seems like mom's death is where we're heading. Sucky ending for what has been mostly a fun, feel good show.

The only way it could be worse is if Barney is also dead and he ends up with Aunt Robyn.

Well color me stupid because I couldn't figure out what in the hell Ted was so upset with when the Mother said that...

But I know for a fact she did say "what mother would miss her DAUGHTER'S wedding"...

Even though it's been widely speculated that the mother dies, this still didn't make sense to me when I saw it last night... I'm a moron :bag:

Saw one theory over on EW that the wife does have some life threatening disease, and that Ted is telling the kids the story while they await word from the Doctor on whether or not the surgery was a success.

If indeed Ted his telling his kids about their dead mother, then those kids are big jerks for looking so bored the whole time.

Yep. And I think they would have also narrowed the timeline a bit, from being broken up about it in 2024 to waiting to hear the results in 2030.

That would be a major downer. Ted waits so many years trying to find the perfect one for him and finally does. And she happens to be a widow who lost her husband and the one person she thought was her soulmate. And then she dies at what would be a fairly young age still.

That would take what was a pretty fun show that was laced with some heart tugging episodes and male the entire thing a fairly depressing and sad journey. Yuck. Feels almost like an effort to give the show more weight or something. I'd rather not walk away from the show feeling sad though.

Right? It's not bad enough that he had to wander in the wilderness for 9 years to finally meet "the one" and then she dies on him prematurely? That's pretty harsh for a sitcom.

I think it was the very 1st episode where they said "are we being punished for something?" If she really dies while they're still children, I'd think they'd be eager for all the details they could get. Granted, most of the stories don't involve her, so maybe they just want him to get to the point.

It's interesting that Bob Saget is telling the story, who's biggest TV role was that of a widower.

Isn't it a horrible move either way. If the mother dies its a down ending. If she doesn't, setting up the possibility at this point feel a little cheap.

Ted could be dying. He looked old and haggard that episode. Talking about being at a daughters wedding could have made him think of his own daughter and start crying. 2024 he finds out he's dying and makes it another 6 years. Starts telling his kids the story of how he met the mother and the show ends at his funeral.

Any way this show ends it's got strong potential to be the saddest finale in history. After last night I can't see it ending any other way than on a sad note.

Who would've thought a comedy would end this way. Seems odd if it ends how everyone is thinking.

While it wasn't the end of the series, how about on M*A*S*H when Henry finally got to go home and the last scene was Radar telling everyone his plane was shot down? That was brutal.

To be fair, MASH was more a Drama-Comedy (a Dramedy?) and had several hard hitting episodes, because it was a war after all.
